Our 4.5 year old granddaughter is visiting and she came with Cyproheptadine 2MG/5ML Syrup. She has nightmares and anxiety at bed time. Takes a 10ML dose every night. Is this okay? It is a prescription by a doctor. ## If her doctor has prescribed it, it should be given as instructed. It is an antihistamine that is used to treat allergic reactions, as well as anxiety and insomnia, due to its sedative like effects. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, drowsiness, and dry mouth. How is she doing on it?

I took 52 mgs of cyproheptadine in one dose. I didn't know it caused weight gain. I don't want to gain weight just wanted to sleep. If I stop now will I still gain the unwanted weight? And when will it leave my body? ThanKs ps I only took it this once but I took a super high dose, when will it leave my body. ## Hi gabby, From what I've researched, weight gain is in fact listed as a "possible" side effect of Cyproheptadine; but this doesn't mean it happens to everyone who takes it...which is probably why we aren't really concerned about these things until they actually begin to manifest.
