Can You Take Oxycodone With Fentanyl

My ex-husband has had 5 lower back surgeries and has permanent nerve damage. He also has rods and pins in his back that one screw pushed on his spinal cord and had to be removed-lots of scar tissue. He's having a neurologist for many years. My ex has been on fentanyl 100 patch putting a new patch every 48 hours and oxycotin 5 was 6 times a day now he has been cut to 4 a day. His doctor won't give him any higher dosage and in extreme debilitating pain. He was in pain management years ago, but the doctor changed his percocet he took then and put him on morphine. He took to many for the week he was on it. It wasn't working and let pain management doctor know it and was thrown out of pain management. He of course is addicted. I have just switched from oxycodone to fentanyl patches. I will be withdrawing from them following sugery. any suggestions as to which is easier to withdraw from? Thanks!!! ## Well, the Fentanyl is actually much stronger than the Oxycodone, a 0.025mg dosage of it is equal to 5mgs of Oxycodone, so it is going to be the harder one to withdraw from, if it is stopped abruptly. However, the other fact of relevance is how long you will be using it. If it is only for a short period of time, them the withdrawals may not be too rough, though they may still be annoying. Seven years of back pain with long history of muscle relaxant and more recently oxycodone and lorazepam. Docs finally did MRI and found Spondylolisthesis Grade 3-4 with bulging disc and appears vertebrae have already fused. Still being worked up by Neuro surgeon. Pain mgmt. just switched me from 10mg Vicodin every 4 hrs to 25mcg Fentanyl patch every 3 days with 7.5 Vicodin every 6-8 hrs for breakthrough. Started patch last week. I'm currently taking dilaudid 4mg & a fentanyl 25mg patch. All I can say is that it seems to me that the hydromorphone "dilaudid" isn't effective as my oxys Irs or my morphine Irs used to be. There is a time released formulation of Morphine available as a generic and name brand, MS Contin: There is also a patch available, as both name brand and generic, that contains the narcotic Fentanyl: Since they are both narcotics, the side effects would be similar and can include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth.

I get 6 oxycodone pills a day and also wear a 100 mcg/hr fentanyl patch. I have been on same meds and dose about two years now and very tolerant to this combo and dose they are becoming ineffective for my pain and back trouble. I also take flexeral and baclofen for constant muscle relaxes as my spasms almost never stop. also. Was on 360 30mg Oxycodones a month for 5 years. Doctor has now switched me to 240 30mg Oxycodone and 25mcg Fentanyl patches. I seem to be hurting worse since going on the patches. Little yellow tablet one side has the numbers 445 and the other side has ETH ## Taking 100 mcg Fentanyl for chronic pain with 15 mg oxycodone imm rel 3x for btp. I was on liquid Methadone for chronic pain for years and while on waiting list to switch to a new Pain center, I was weaning off methadone rapidly at 2mgs a day from 120 to 38mg. I was also on 20 to 40 mgs a day oxycodone for breakthrough pain. Now, last month, my new doc put me on 25mcg/h patch. Yesterday, he informed me that I am now ONLY getting pain management from him (understandable) and cut me off and did not prescribe any more oxycodone and I was to stop at 38mgs methadone. So, this is my situation. I was on Fentanyl 75, and oxycodone 15 for breakthrough pain.my pain stems from a bad back which led me to have three back surgeries and still have inj's. radiofrequency ablation's with not much success. I just moved back here to AZ from Colorado and saw my previous p.m. Dr. Because of Swimming I've had a couple patches falloff and even lost one in the pool. I've been on oxycodone for almost 2 years, following a bad automobile accident. I became dependent and was taking upwards of 75-85mg per day. I'm finally on a step-down regimen, starting with 60mg per day for a week, then 50mg a day/ per week, 40mg per day/week and so on, until I finish 10mg per day for a week. I foolishly took more than I was supposed to this week (had a death in the family that put me over the edge). I can't fill my next Rx until the end of this week and was petrified of withdrawal, so I slapped on a 25mcg fentanyl patch. It's been 25 hours and I developed a terrible headache.
