I was taking cephalexin500 wasn't the right antibiotic for me so Dr. Gave me sulfatrimeth ds. 800 is it okay to switch from one antibiotic that isn't working to another antibiotic in the same day ## As long as you have your doctor's clearance to do so, there are no other real problems with it. It often has to be done when someone has proven to be allergic to or have a bad reaction to one antibiotic, but still requires one to treat an infection. Learn more Bactrim details here. I am wondering what is the best antibiotic to fight MRSA or a Staph infection? I went to the hospital last night because I had a spot that started out as an ingrown hair and has become repulsive. The doctor wouldn't specifically tell me what it was so I'm not exactly sure what it is. Did some research and I think it is either Staph or MRSA. I am allergic to penicillian... I am taking Bactrim DS for an infection cellulitis due to a cut on my leg. Is this the right antibiotic given to me? ## Hi Marie, Based on my research, Bactrim DS is used for treating cellulitis infection. If I can recommend anything else to help the healing process, it would be to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and look into supplements that will boost your immune system. A good anti inflammatory supplement is Echinacea Goldenseal. Also, Tea Tree and Lavender essential oils are very good for skin related infections because they are anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. If you decide to try any of my suggestions, make sure you do plenty of your own research! I hope this helps!

I had surgery on both feet to remove lypomas on Jan. 19. 1 foot was healing very slowly. Dr. thought I may have staph - did a culture. It came back no staph or infection. Said I have skin flora. Dr. put me on this antibiotic as a precaution b/c this Wed. he is going to do a "scrub" on 1 foot to enable new skin to grow back. I took med. for 7 days ( 1 twice a day.) He ordered a refill. sulfameth/trimethoprim 800-160 ## I have been on this drug for a week now and I have been experiencing a hard time sleeping and I wake up every hour on the hour and when I first was on it I did not sleep for four days and I never had sleeping problems before. When I do sleep I also get really weird dreams. Has anyone experienced this? ## Yes- I am having problems sleeping and weird dreams also. Ooh-well; it will stop soon. I currently have a tooth abcess that my endodontist is trying to treat. The problem he is having is that I am allergic to the antibiotics that are best at treating this. I am allergic to penicillin, erythromycin, cephalosporins. We tried cipro but that did not do much after 2 weeks. Is there another antibiotic I can try? ## Are you able to take the sulfa based ones, such as Bactrim? It can cause some nasty side effects and there is the risk of being allergic for about 3% of people, which is why I don't usually recommend it to anyone, but it may be your best option. I am prescribed Bactrim DS 160/800mg (2) Double Strength tabs every 12 hrs. for a A.Baumannii infection from the OR which took me back to the OR to remove the infection now as I heal I am on Double Strength 800mg x 12 hrs. very very nauseated all day and night cannot eat but force myself so i can take this med ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, the active ingredients in Bactrim, is an antibiotic and it can cause nausea as a side effect. Have you consulted your doctor? If the nausea is that severe, it may not be the right medication for you and you may need to try something else.

I get UTI'S all the time, no one has been able to tell me why.
