my wife's doctor prescribed avalox for a kidney infection, pending results of urine c&s ... any rationale to support that choice? ## nothing ## Yes, there is plenty of evidence to support using Avelox for a UTI, however there are a LOT safer choices for a UTI than Avelox. Avelox Side Effects, while rare, can be absolutely devastating and can cause lifelong disabilities. Personally, with what I know about Quinolone Antibiotics, the class of drugs that Avelox is in, I would never use them for anything but a life threatening infection where there was no other alternative. The side effects are too disastrous to use these drugs for a common infection with so many alternative drugs.

available ## Azalide contains Hydrochlorothiazed and Irbesartan and no, there is no generic for this available. The only medication in this class that is available as a generic is Losartan and the Hydrochlorothiazide is also available, separately, as a generic. If the Availide is too expensive, you may want to check your local prices on the others and if it turns out to be cheaper, ask your doctor about using them, instead. Are there any questions or comments?

My insurance company insisted that I change from Avalide 150mg/HCT 12.5mg to Lorsartan 50mg/HCT 12.5mg. Are the dosages equivilant? ## Yes, that is the equivalent dosage. Avalide contains Irbesartan with the Hydrochlorothiazide and the Losartan is actually a stronger medication, so it only takes 50mgso f it to equal the 150mgs of the Irbesartan. Is there anything else I can help with?

My thirteen year old son(140 lbs) had a strong bacterial infection involving his salivary glands. His face was very swollen. In order to avoid hospitalization(IV), the doctor prescribed avalox. my pharm says tambocor is on backorder with no release date help....where can i get it ## Trying to find it here in California also. Same story, backordered. It appeasrs the manfacturer Medics was bought out by a large manfacturer this past September. I am trying to get a hold of them to see if they are still making it. The generic Flecanide does not work so well for me. Perhaps try some different manfacturers of Flecanide to see if are better than others. ## There are a few other trade names that you may find it under, so you may want to ask if they are available, they include: Almarytym, Apocard, Ecrinal and Flecaine. Learn more Flecainide details here. Has anyone had luck finding it yet?

Can I take Losartin rather than Avalide. ## Avalide is actually a combination medication, it contains the ARB Irbesartan and the diuretic Hydrochlorothiazide. Losartan is currently the only generic ARB available on the U.S. market, however, you would also need the Hydrochlorothiazide, which is also available as a generic. You may want to check with your pharmacy to see which is cheaper to purchase, the two as separate generics or the Avalide. Are there any questions or comments?

I was taking Avalide 300/25. It became unavailable and I was switched to Losartan 100/25. Is this the same dosage? Also what color are the Losartan suppose to be. My Losartan are yellow but I also read were they are suppose to be white. ## Hello, CT! How are you? Yes, the Losartan is stronger than the Irbesartan in the Avalide, so this is an equivalent dosage. And since this is a generic, it is actually available in both yellow and white. Typical side effects to this medication may include nausea, easier bruising, headache, dehydration and increased urination. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can i use the losartan potassium instead of avalide 300/12.5? ## Hello, Emily! How are you? No, these are not interchangeable, since the Avalide contains 2 active ingredients, Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide to work together to treat high blood pressure. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and dehydration. Is there anything else I can help with?

my doctor told me to take 10mg zanidip every second day he thinks 5mg are not avalible in ireland i need to take 5mg a day ## Zanidip contains the active ingredient Lercanidipine and, from what I've found, it's listed as only being available in 10 and 20mg tablets. However, as long as it isn't time released, it should be okay to cut them in half. Or is there some reason your doctor doesn't want you to do so?

found out Avalide has been discontined. So what is the replacement medication. Avalide 150 12.5 has worked for me for years. ## Avalide contained the active ingredients Irbesartan an ARB and Hydrochlorothiazide a diuretic. There are several others on the market in this same medication class that may also work for you. One of them is Atacand HCT, which contains Candesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. Your doctor can also prescribe them both separately. The name brand for the Irbesartan would be Avapro and they Hydrochlorothiazide is also available by itself. I was told there could be a problem taking Quinipril and Avalide at the same time on a consistent basis because they are basically in the same class. Any truth to this? ## Is it ok to take magnesium while also taking quinipril? ## Yes, usually, you should take one or the other, though you may be able to take other blood pressure and cardiac medications, at the same time, according to FDA reports. Barb, it really depends on your blood pressure levels, since the FDA warns that Magnesium may also lower it, and cause drowsiness. How are you both doing?

My husband takes Coreg for blood pressure and he also was just given avalide with it. Isn't Avalide the same kink of drug? ## has anyone out there taken methadone (im on 140 mgs) and phentermine together? if so what kind of experience did you have? i have been on methadone for 5 years and gained almost 60 lbs but i am scared to start the phentermine i was prescribed! please help! ## Coreg contains Carvedilol, and Avalide contains Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide, so they are not exactly the same, though both are used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Multiple medications are often prescribed, when someone's blood pressure is dangerously high, to help bring it down as fast, and as safely as possibly. Once it is at a normal level, medications can be lo...
