I started taking augmentin 875 4 days ago and I have gained 7 lbs. I'm hoping this is fluid retention. I am a personal trainer, I eat very well and exercise 5 times a week. If anyone has had the same symptoms please let me know. I took one dose of this drug for a cat bite. I took it with food as prescribed. During the night I had extreme stomach pain so bad I thought I was going to have to go the er. Then I had diarrhea with blood. I was so scared. I called my physician in the am to tell her what happened but by that time it had cleared up. She had one other patient this happened to after one dose. If Augmentin is scored, is it possible to split the pill in two? I've had nausea, dizziness, and heartburn for 3 days now after taken Augmentin and drinking several beers this past Saturday evening. I started Augmentin 875-125 on Friday, today is Monday. The day before, Sunday, my chin/jaw was very itchy. It was a deep itch and not a surface itch. Last night before I went to bed, I noticed that my lower lip felt/looked a little swollen and also saw that I had several little blister type spots under my lip and down to mid-chin. I am a "zit picker", so I just gently popped them it seemed there was alot of liquid in them for how tiny they were. I took my first dose of augmentin this evening and when I was going to sleep my hands started itching. I finally got annoyed enough to go look for some cortisone cream and when I turned on the light I saw that my whole body was red - except my face. It's worst on my feet, inner part of legs, stomach and arms. My hands and feet are what itch the most. I just took Benadryl and a probiotic. Should I be concerned? Will this go away in the morning? The full dose is too strong for me and I am wondering if I can cut these in half without losing any of the medication strength? ## Hi Tony, Usually if there is a score line (divid) embedded into the tablet, it means the manufacturer purposely made it so patients could easily cut it in half. However, you may still be able to safely cut the pill in half if the drug itself is not in extended-release form. It is my own understanding that some extended-release pills loose their time sustaining properties if cut in half, depending on whether or not it is a capsule or a tablet; but please correct me if I'm wrong on that.
