I had a gastric bypass in 2001. I have anemia now and someone told me that in order for iron to be absorbed, there must be presence of acid in stomach. After bypass there is no gastric acid present. Is this true? Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, how is it treated ## If there were no gastric acid, then you would not be able to digest and absorb any food/nutrients. I suggest you speak to your doctor. ## You have plenty of acid. Enough that acid ate thru my staple line, ate 6 holes in my pouch and stomach, and I take 3 Rx of antacids. ## From what I've read, iron does need gastric acid to be absorbed. The way my surgeon explained it (14 years ago), the part of the stomach used to make the pouch is less elastic and produces less acid. And, my GI doctor said the bypassed part...

I've been on Aggrenox for 10 months and I'm severely anemic and getting iron infusions! I believe the aspirin in it causes bleeding. I cant take Plavix, so I don't know what they're going to put me on. I have muscle and joint problems too. ## What do you take it for? Specifically to prevent stroke, or just as a blood thinner? If it is just as a blood thinner, there may be other options, such as Warfarin. ## I take it to prevent a stroke, had one in Jan 2010, and while on plavix had a tia in July 2011, then Dec 2011 had a stroke to my optic nerve in my right eye! I do not want to be on a blood thinner, had my 4th infusion yesterday and got 5 more to go! Aggrenox makes my muscles weak, there has to be something else that doesn't make you anemic? scared to go off of cau...

I was diagnosed with anemia following a recent blood test. I was given ferrous sulphate tablets to increase my iron levels. When I started them, and for the first time, I got really bad flatulence and belching, which felt that it was started from below my stomach (it smelt and tasted like that!) As it was so antisocial, I stopped taking the tablets, and the problem went away. The only trouble is that, now, if I eat anything which is iron rich (like red meat), I get the same problem. Is there anything I can do to stop these embarrassing outbursts, other than not eating iron-rich foods?

I am living with sickle cell anemia. My doctor for the last 10 years has prescribed me with oxycontin. Now my doctor is changing fields and will ne doing botox treatments and he will not write out anymore prescriptions. Does anyone know of a new doctor I can get my medication from in Las Vegas, Nevada? I do not abuse them but I do need them for server pain I have in my bones. Please help!! ## Have you tried asking them if they have a doctor they can recommend for you? In most situations of this type, doctors will look for someone else too take over their patients, rather than leave them out in the cold. Otherwise, have you considered trying a pain management specialist? That might be your other best option, since they are specially trained in dealing with this type of health problem.

I read somewhere that Metanx should not be taken for neuropathy due to pernicious anemia. Is this correct? I now take Neurontin and sometimes Norco. These meds do not get rid of the pain, they just take the "edge" off of it. Thank you. ## If you take Metanx, it may cause incorrect results on the blood work for Pernicious Anemia, which could lead someone to believe that they no longer have it. So the warning is related to that, since if your condition improves, or worsens, you may not know due to false results. Ref: Folate Information Has your doctor advised you to try Metanx? What dose are you on of the Norco, and Neurontin?

Tablets to cure anemia ## Ferrous sulfate is the correct name. Basically it is a supplemental form of Iron Salts. You can view more info in the link below... Obviously iron or iron absorption is lacking in the diet. If you want to avoid pills, you should naturally eat more iron rich foods, like spinach, hemp seeds, watermelon, and MANY more. Also try to eat more kiwi for their high vitamin C content. It is much higher than oranges and will help with iron absorption issues. There are a vast number of other foods with similar properties to help you naturally if this is the route you choose to take. Please post back if you have any other questions or comments to add.

pill for iron deficiency, anemia maybe otc ## ferrous sulfate ## In regards to these, this is just the chemical name for an iron supplement, there are both prescription and non-prescription supplements that are available. The appropriate one depends on how low someone's iron levels are, when tested. And there are also some conditions where adding additional iron is contraindicated and too much of it can be very dangerous, so please check with your doctor, before adding it. It can also cause side effects, such as nausea, joint aches, darkened stool and constipation. Are there any comments or questions?

I have chronic anemia from Crohn's disease and we decided to do Venofer this year to address my anemia. I did like 10, 200mg infusions and my HGB was declining the whole time. Long story short, I had to go on Prednisone, switch GI docs, go on Remicade and Cellcept to get disease under control. Then we started with the Injectafer. The first two infusions went fine. I started feeling much better. After a couple of months my iron had dipped again below range and we decided to do another 2 Injectafer infusions. The infusions themselves went fine. It was around then that my body started hurting all over. My neck, back, elbows, knees, feet, etc. My GI doc thought I had developed antibodies to the Remicade so we tested for that and I have no antibodies. Now I suspect the Injectafer is the ...

i have hemolytic anemia and lupis and fribromaigla should i be taking this? is this a sulfur drug? why is it making me feel so bad? ## Nitrofurantoin monohydrate macrocrystals is usually used in treating urinary tract infections...so it seems that this is the wrong medication for your conditions. Ultimately, I would suggest researching a medication before taking it next time, as it could be very detrimental to your health if you have no reason to take it. The side effects of this drug in particular can also be very harsh, which may explain why you aren't feeling well. You can read up more on the side effects by following the link below: You'll definitely want to consider going to a medical doctor or naturopathic doctor for your hemolytic anemia, lupus, and fibromyalgia, rather t...

I suffer from sickle cell anemia an have chronic pain I take 80mg oxycontin but ever since new ones came out they don't last as long as old ones do it's not fair that people like me and others that suffer from chronic pain have to get short end of the stick.
