Ambien Zolpidem

Zolpidem, sold under the brand name Ambien, among others, is a medication primarily used for the short-term treatment of sleeping problems.[7][8] Guidelines recommend that it be used only after cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia and behavioral changes, such as sleep hygiene, have been tried.[9][10][11] It decreases the time to sleep onset by about fifteen minutes and at larger doses helps people stay asleep...

Using a 5mg tab once at bedtime. Can the pill be cut in half to lower the dosage ? ## I am prescribed 10 mg. of Ambien and often cut/break them in half to lower the dose. Works just fine. ## Yes you can cut it in half if it works for you. You can even have it prescribed in a lower dose (I think that it comes in 5), but if you use it long-term it would be more cost effective judt to break it in half. ## Just to add a safety warning for anyone else seeking such information… Cutting, breaking or crushing a pill is only safe to do if it is not a time released formulation. You can only do this safely with regular release medications. If you see something on your prescription label such as ER, XR, SR, CR, DR or any warning not to crush, chew, break or etc. then there is a rea...

I am wondering if there have been cases where more than 10 mg ambien is needed to sleep. How much is too much? ## Ambien contains the active ingredient Zolpidem, it is usually used for the short term treatment of insomnia. The problem with it is that all of these types of medications can be habit forming, thus you should only use it as prescribed. If your current dosage is not working for you, then please speak to your doctor, there are other options available, including a time released Ambien, called Ambien CR. Some common side effects can include: nausea, hallucinations, euphoria and loss of libido, all of which can be aggravated if you take higher doses, as well. My husband would take my bottle away every time so I wouldn't go over board on taking them. Well last time he left the bottle, and I took it like I always do and when I woke up, I had 1 or 2 more gone but don't remember taking them at all. Please let me know if you have any advice. I'm the only person that happens to. ## Hello, Dawn! How are you? No, you are not the only person this has happened to, please allow me to assure you of that. As reported by the FDA and the NIH, Ambien is actually well known to cause sleep actions, in some people that take it, people have had binge eating episodes, sleep intercourse, they've driven while sleeping..... It might be better to leave them in another room, after you take your nightly dose. When I was on them for awhile, I also put s...

This is an orange pill I got when I refilled my prescription for generic Ambien. I tried it before. I read the information from other people on this website. I always cut them in half and take half at a time. These are really, really bitter and foul tasting but they do work. Luckily the recommended dose was good enough. ## Thanks for comments on the orange generic ambien -- that was info I was looking for.

I was taking zolpidem CR/12.5mg for about 6 months. A few days ago, I came home from working an evening shift and drank one 24 ounce can of beer (officially two drinks). 3 hours later I took my usual dose of zolpidem, which I use approx 3 times each week. I really thought nothing of it at the time. I didn't use them together at the same time. I don't get high, I don't look for a buzz. I don't remember anything else. I got up at some point and took more (i assume, because the bottle was halfway gone. I don't remember doing this, it's not something I have ever done and I have always followed prescribed dosing. After going to bed, the next thing I remember is waking up 50 miles away in jail, in a county completely unfamiliar to me (i didn't know how to get there...

I take cymbalta for anxiety, not depression. I was wondering if it is ok to take cymbalta in the morning, have 1-2 beers over 3 hrs in the evening and take a tiny dose of ambien. I've taken ambien after a beer plenty of times and its fine. I've been taking ambien for severe insomnia for a few years. Just wondering if ambien, cymbalta, and beer would have a bad effect. Thanks! ## If you're taking Ambien, it's really best not to drink, at all. I understand that you've already done it, without any problems, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Plenty of other people have also done so, only to suddenly get a huge surprise one day, when they woke up in jail or a hospital, because they suddenly experienced an adverse reaction. the 12 mg is too much- can I use a pill spliter with the ambien cr ## No, Ambien CR is a time released tablet and splitting the pill could result in your getting too much of the medication at once. In this case, the only solution is to ask your doctor to prescribe a lower dose or a non-time released formulation. Are there any questions or comments?

Hi all, ive been taking ambien for 2+ years pretty regularly (10mg, sometimes 20), and klonopin pretty regularly for 1.5 years (lower dose). sometimes, i have even had to combine the two to get to sleep. i stopped cold turkey about 10 days ago, and am having a really rough time. sleep is getting a little better each night, but not much. for a few days, i felt like a cloud was lifted and felt amazing. now, im feeling pretty depressed. how long should i expect this to last? ## It could take a month, or more, until your body completely adjusts to no longer having the medication. Even if you don't abuse a medication and only take it as prescribed, your body still becomes used to having it and can develop dependence on that substance. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have tak...

I had been taking a generic brand of Ambien nearly every night for 5 years. Due to increased tolerance, I gradually increased the dose from 10mg to 20mg over the past three years. These doses worked for nearly five years. Then suddenly, around the end of May, 20 mg wouldn’t work. I tried 30-40 mg and that was still less effective than 15-20 mg was even one month prior. I stopped taking Ambien altogether in June and I didn’t experience any withdrawal symptoms. The first few nights were difficult to fall asleep, but the adjustment was minimal. I was on a long holiday, so I didn’t have the pressure of getting up early. Some nights I took Benadryl or Melatonin, but I stopped taking them as well. Sleep was not a problem for me. Now I’ve started a new job and I need to...

Can I take another Ambien 6.25mg dose (after discovering I had 65 minutes of things to do) after I had taken the first one? I'll still have 8 hours of sleep available. ## No, to avoid risking an overdose, it would be best to take the dosage your doctor has prescribed. The FDA warns that this medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, sleep actions, and hallucinations. Are you on any other medications?

Zolvest comes in a blister pack of 10. They are generic for Ambien. They work better than any other Zolpidem generic I tried. Has anyone tried this medication and if so do you know who the manufacturer is? Also, how did it affect you? Lastly, I was sent this other garbage called Zolfresh and it works nothing like the Zolpidem I've taken for years. The only thing close is Zolvest. I am so PO'ed. I was promised that this Zolfresh was a good brand and was just like the other, but the only thing it does is make me feel like I've taken NyQuil in heavy doses that make me feel heavy and lethargic but don't put me under. I will run out tomorrow, so now I'm in trouble and will be withdrawing for however long it takes. So now I'm up without a paddle. This really sucks! Has...

Is this a fatal combination? If i started drinking heavily and the injested this amount, would it be deadly? ## Hi Savanagh, yes, this combination of drugs and alcohol can be deadly. Are you depressed and having problems? Nothing and no one is worth taking your life. Please, talk with your doctor about what's going on in your life and how you feel. A medical professional can help you with your problems. ## Ingesting that much clonazepam and Ambien is just suicide. Drinking alcohol with a benzodiazepine will result in death. You will most likely go into respiratory arrest then cardiac arrest. ## It would be fatal even without alcohol. ## First I am concerned that you would ask about such incredibly high doses of medication. Ambien should not be taken in more than 10 mg. No GOOD MD wou...

Hello, I've been taking generic Ambien, Zolpidem, 10 mg. each night sometimes 20 mg once in awhile when one tablet did not work (I am going through menopause, my hormone fluctuates) for a month. How do I taper the med. safely so I do not get insomnia rebound? thanks. Michelle ## HUSBANDS DR SAID CUT PILL IN HALF AND TAKE 1/2 DOSE FOR 1 WEEK OR SO, THEN D/C. HE DIDNT TRUST IT, BUT IT WORKED. ## this site is not medical professionals, so you should consult with your doctor. Suz's advice is probably the most practical solution, however. There are quite a few reports online that say it can cause withdrawal effects if you suddenly stop taking it, even after just a few weeks, so you do need to be careful. If you experience them, contact your doctor immediately. They can include: nause...

I was prescribed brintellix. Best medication ever!! I have tried Cymbalta, Zoloft, Lexapro (omg, never again) Clonidine, Ativan, Prazosin, Ambien, and the list goes on. Brintellix did wonders to decresse my anxieyy. BUT the dose is too strong!! At 5mg I am a zombie, I feel motivated and clear headed, but can't move or get out of bed, I cut the pill in half and only take it every other day and the med works best for me this way. But where can I actually fill my prescription at? I also before I actually started this medication, went on this site and was warned that it was a difficult medication to get. So I went to the pharmacy every month for 6 months and it would take weeks before I could get the medication! I just stocked the medication for 6 months. Now when I go to the pharmacy a...

I am finding that when I take my PRN (as needed) dose of IR morphine any time after 4 pm, no matter what I take, lorazepam, ambien, phenergan, soma that I can't fall asleep and if I do it's that "yen" type of sleep where I am kind of in a trance. I am finding that I need the PRN dosing more and more at night so what can I do to counter the effects. In the day it makes me sleepy but at night it's completely different. I've asked my doctor about it and for a different solution but he says there is nothing stronger or better that he can prescribe that I can afford - I don't have prescription coverage. I've looked into the affordability of some of the other options and they are more than my mortgage! I can't qualify for any RX assistance because I am on M...

What is the maximum dose of this drug that is being used for a better nights sleep? My doctor prescribed me 50mg. to be taken 1 hour before I plan on going to sleep. I've been taking as prescribed for 2 weeks and so far have NOT had any improvement. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!! ## Ambien also known as Zolpidem and Silnox works well for me, but you can become dependent on them. I used to take it right before bed and listen to a sleep called sleep easily and I would be sound asleep before the CD had ended. I used to wake up on a hourly basis. I was lucky to ever get 4 hours sleep straight and when I did I felt like super woman. But this medication withe sleep easily which can be downloaded to your phone or I pad I would sleep straight through and didn't have any problem...

I started Lunesta 3 days ago. I was on Ambien for 3 years off and on. Switched to Lunesta because the Ambien quit working. It does put me to sleep and I can sleep all nite. But the problem is that it take 2 hours to kick in. Has anyone ever had that happen? Should I ask my dr to up my dose? Thanks! ## Hello, Kellie! How are you doing? That is rather odd, so yes, I think discussing it with your doctor would be a good idea. Do you keep a regular sleep schedule and practice good sleep hygiene?
