Attention deficit disorder (ADD) is one of the three subtypes of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The term was formally changed in 1994 in the new Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition (DSM-IV) to "ADHD predominantly inattentive" (ADHD-PI or ADHD-I), though the term attention deficit disorder is still widely used. ADD is similar to the other subtypes of ADHD in that it is characterized primarily by inattention, easy distractibility, disorganizat...

Can't do the simplist of things by himself anymore and has begun messing in his pants almost daily. Is this drug meant for child? ## Call his dr. I am not sure what to do. My 12 year old son takes adderal once a day for his ADHD for many years now. 2 years ago moved here and the clinic he goes to the office staff is very rude. So i went to another doc. but they will not see him till his records are transferred. As soon as the doc. got the transfer request they called and cancelled his appointment with no explanation. (No surprise to me). He needs these meds for school, without them there is a very noticeable difference. They run out on the 26th of Feb. so i have been skipping weekends in hopes to have plenty for school. I am not sure what to do. I know the doc. has 30 days to transfer files, and than i have to make an appointment with the new doc. which could take time to get in. Normally if my son doesn't have the meds for t...

I recently read an article about a trial on the use of this drug in a pediatric form on children with ADHD. I am interested in hearing more information on this to treat my child who has adhd. It is said to not be a methamphedimine like adderall, Ritalin, or concerta; which my child has taken and which i am not pleased with the reactions and side effects of which he has suffered. Any information would be appreciated. ## I have adult ADD (non-hyperactive). I used cylert (pemoline). I tried this drug once when they were canceling cylert for a possible alternative. At the time, it was not generic, so very expensive. Pros: not as addictive-forming as Ritalin. Cons: the price (depending on whether its now generic and/or your insurance). Also, I didn't think it helped much. It makes you ha...

Hi I am a 27 year old and I am worried that I might have adhd. I was never diagnosed when I was young because my father is a pharmacist and he always thought he knew what was best. I recently failed a couple of classes in school for the first time ever. Speaking to an academic counselor, she told me that its possible that I might have ADHD and I should seek treatment. I'm worried that, since I'm a girl, it'll be harder to get treatment for the first time in Miami. I've been reading reports about how ADHD is prevalent in men more than women, and that adderall is being limited in Miami due to student abuse. Has anyone faced difficulties in getting prescribed treatment for ADHD and can recommend good doctors that are sympathetic in the Miami, FL area? Thanks in advance to a...

I am a 75 year old male. As long as I can remember I have had problems with concentration, forgetting, start a project & not completing it, uneasy around people, find it difficult to carry on a conversation, i can go and ask directions when driving and cannot remember what I was told. I have checked the systems for ADHA on the Internet and I have about all the systems. I was slow in school as when I read something I could not remember what I had read. I have spoken to a number of Doctors on this but they more or less shrug it off. About 15 years ago a Doctor did put me on 50mg of Zoloft per day. I am still on 50mg and have at times bumped it up to 100mg but noticed no change. ANY ONE with any suggestions or have experienced some of what I have experienced I would sincerely appreciat...

My 6yr old son was recently diagnosed with ADHD and ODD (oppositional defiance disorder) I am unsure whether to try meds for it as they are so strong and classed as stimulants and he is so young but his behaviour is negatively impacting on all areas of his life. Can people please share their experiences of using ADHD or ODD meds? Or do you know of anything else that would help him. I just want him to be the best person he can be. I have tried behaviour management with limited success and he won't co-operate with seeing a psych. He doesn't co-operate at school or home. ## If your son truly has ADD or ADHD then putting him on medication is really the best option. I have Adult ADD and have experienced a significant impact on my life when I am not on the medication. There are many d...

Can lexamil help for ADHD in adult female? ## No, this is an antidepressant, so it is not usually used to treat such conditions. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and weight gain. Did your doctor prescribe this for you?

It contains the active ingredient Lisdexamfetamine and is most commonly used to treat ADHD. Its side effects may include: nausea, dizziness, insomnia and loss of appetite. I was told that I could no longer be prescribed Adderall when I became age 50. That was 8 years ago. I quit functioning and now I rarely leave my room. HELP! ## Dear Stephanie, Sorry to hear about your situation. I believe you've come to the right site for support and know that compassionate/understanding doctors do exist even if they may seem few & far between. Please don't give up hope in your search, if this is truly the path you wish to take. No one is too old to receive proper care. Just because we cross a certain age line, doesn't mean our problems magically go away. If anything, that doctor should be fired for misleading you down that path only to have the rug unexpectedly pulled from under your feet. If you need help locating another physician, you can typically ...

does anyone out there have the problem I have seems even some Dr's don't understand the difference between ADD and the classic ADHD. Even as a child ,I was different all the kids went out on Sat mornings to play while I couldn't even wake up. I couldn't stay awake in class. Could never keep it together in school. I was always the class dummy. Then I became over weight in my early twenty's. All of a sudden when a Dr put me on diet meds I had a brain that really worked. I have been on concerta for about ten years and all of a sudden I'm back to my old state.can't wake up, can't concentrate. What if anything can some one advise me to do? ## YOU MAY WANT TO TRY A MEDICATION VACATION OR ANOTHER THING THAT HELPED WAS WEEKEND AND WEEKDAY DOSES BEING DIFFERENT. A...

So I'm going to try and contact them again and demand a refund and probably make up some s*** to scare then like I gave them to my lawyers or something lol hopefully I get my money back another girl said she did. ## @keeta, Based on my research, these pills do appear to be fake. Apparently they are being made by a manufacturer known as Royal Pharma, out of India. You're not alone though... many people here have reported that these pills do not work. I just hope you can get a refund from them. The company claims to be legitimate, but from wh...

When I grew up in the 50's there were some kids that were slow, smart and in the middle. My 18 year old boy has trouble concentrating, and might not get the best grades in the world, but he is active and happy, and takes out all his hyperactivity in sports. Heis very smart and my friends think I am crazy not to put him on Focalin or other ADHD drugs. Well, then he would have to be on drugs the rest of his life because he will never learn how to deal with the way his mind works. I know when he finds something that really interests him, he will use his inner strength to make it work. I would be afraid that giving him a pill to help him focus would be telling him that he wasn't good enough naturally. Are parents, before they turn to drugs, changing the basics and trying new things ...
