I have had intestinal gas for some time: asked my primary care doctor whether there was something simple I could take as I had read that over-the counter meds were not safe. He prescribed dicyclomine 10 mg nightly. The list of side effects sound daunting. What do you recommend? I am quite elderly. ## Hello, Tomyris! How are you? This isn't going to help with gas, as a matter of fact, in other countries, they combine it with an antiflatulent medication to present a medication that helps with more symptoms. This works as a smooth muscle relaxer for the intestines to treat intestinal hypermotility and IBS. Unless you have some medical condition or are on medications that causes them to be contraindicated, over the counter products, such as Simethicone, are generally considered safe. It...

I am dealing with tinnitus and I have anxiety issues. My Dr prescribed dicyclomine. Is this going to help, because everything I am reading says this is for IBS? ## Hello, Glenn! How are you? You are correct, that is an odd medication to treat such issues, because it works by causing the smooth muscles of your stomach and intestines to relax according to FDA reports, thus it isn't likely to help with either condition that you are experiencing. Is this the only medication he prescribed? Did you ask him about why he prescribed it? ## I take bentyl.. works good for IBS. But tinnitus?? Nah! Hey Glenn.. Do you have a sister???

I've been on Bentyl (Dicyclomine) for 2 months and have been experiencing bad headaches among other side effects. I've recently stopped and I want to know how long will it remain in my system? ## Hi Terry, Sorry to hear about the horrible headaches. I hope you've gotten around to feeling better since the timing of your post. According to the MedsChat half-life calculator, Dicyclomine reportedly has a half-life of 3.5 hours. This means that every 3.5 hours, half of the dose you took is being excreted (and so forth). In most cases I'm aware of, medications tend to remain detectable in one's system for up to 3-5 half lives / or 2-5 days. I don't know how what dose of Dicyclomine you took or how frequently it was taken, but hopefully these ballpark figures can give y...
