Tetracycline Overview

Tetracycline (INN) /ttrsaklin/ is a broad-spectrum polyketide antibiotic produced by the Streptomyces genus of Actinobacteria, indicated for use against many bacterial infections. It is a protein synthesis inhibitor. It is commonly used to treat acne today, and, more recently, rosacea, and is historically important in reducing the number of deaths from cholera. Tetracycline is marketed under the brand names Sumycin, Tetracyn, and Panmycin, among others. Actisite is a thread-like fiber formula...

stugeron
I need to know how long Stugeron is good after the expiration date on the front has passed. I have a pack here that says "exp 2 2013". I'm traveling soon so I would like to know if these pills will still work for me or not. Thanks! ## @Allyouneedtoknow, Not all expired medications are bad, but I think it's good that you took the time out to check first since some can be dangerous (i.e. tetracycline). According to a drug monograph I read, Stugeron has an estimated shelf life of 3 years. I also found out that it does not require any special storage conditions like most other meds do. So you should be fine to take it until 2016 based on that info alone. I don't know if at what point it can begin to diminish potency, however other drug studies suggest that many medicatio...

what to take for tooth ache when pregnant
Hi my wife has severe tooth ache and went to see the doctor. He gave her antibiotic due to the absess the tooth made but said she can only use panado for her tooth and she is pregnant. Panado does not help what else can she take? ## Be sure the antibiotics aren't Tetracycline. It can turn the babies teeth yellow when their teeth come in. She may need to see a dentist. It is difficult to treat someone when they're pregnant because there are two patients instead of one. The Panado may work better after she has had several doses of the antibiotic.

Expired 6 months past expiration date Doxytet
hi i went to the clinic yesterday with a problem of having a discharge than the nurse gave me doxytet only to find when i got home that the pills expired in July 2013 i only took two pills will i any side effects in my body? ## Sorry to hear about your experience with getting older medication. With most types of drugs, the only thing you'd have to be concerned about it is if it lost any potency. However, when it comes to specific types of antibiotics (namely those associated with tetracycline, such as Doxytet/Doxytetracycline), it can become toxic after the expiration date. I honestly wouldn't recommend taking any and if possible go and try to get your money back from the clinic. It's a good thing you checked first before taking the full prescription, because you never know ...

Doxycycl Hyc 100mg Side Effect need to know
Can this be taken for a "boil" type bump ? And if so when I was younger and was taking tetracycline acne medicine and it caused me to have a rare side effect where it caused excess spinal fluid, will the doxycycl do the same thing? ## HI Rachael, Doxycycline is used to treat different types of bacterial infections including, If the boil is infected it could possibly work. The only thing is, Doxycycline and Tetracycline are both pretty similar so there is a possibility that you could have a reaction. Increase in spinal fluid isn't stated as a side effects though. The side effects for Doxycycline are as follows: Stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting. If you experience a severe sunburn, vision changes (such as blurred vision), unusual/severe headache, or change in the am...

Use beyond expiration date ## There's actually a lot of conflicting information around the topic of expired medication, but according to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. I don't know whether or not the drug you have happens to be one of these drugs from the study... (I have not seen the list of drugs used in this study). But I'd imagine tha...

Orange/Purple Capsule X2416
I have some capsules that are half yellow and half orange with an unusual looking X followed with 2416 and wondering what they are. Thank you ## That oddball looking letter is actually supposed to be a Z logo and the capsule contains 250mgs of the antibiotic Tetracycline. Learn more Tetracycline details here. Since this medication has been known to cause kidney damage, if taken when expired, the best thing to do with any found capsules would be to just properly dispose of them. Where did you find them?
