Nifedipine Overview

Nifedipine, sold under the brand names Adalat among others, is a medication used to manage angina, high blood pressure, Raynaud's phenomenon, and premature labor.[1] It is one of the treatments of choice for Prinzmetal angina. It may be used to treat severe high blood pressure in pregnancy. My Nifedipine blood pressure pills got wet. Are they still good to use? ## If it was just water, they wouldn't become toxic, or anything, but if they partially dissolved they may not be as effective. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Overall, it would be best to check with your pharmacist, you may need to pick up a refill sooner than usual. Are you on any other medications? ## I'm taking nifedipine to control my blood pressure and want to know if it is a blood thinner?

Nifedipine and water retention

I have been taking Nifedipine for a month. I have increased water and swelling in feet, and a lot of pulled muscles. I think the pills are the cause. How do I wean myself off them? I take one every second day, until I see my Dr. ## It would be best not to stop taking them, until you see your doctor, but the NIH does list that as being a possible side effect of this medication, so you might need to switch to a different medication. When you be able to see your doctor? The FDA lists other side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. Are you on any other medications? ## Yes I have two of those don't have the nausea . Can't see my dr til two weeks time.i was taking hydroclorized before so I went back on this pill. Yes I thanked synthroid b...

Nifedipine ER - double dosed 90 mg
1 Reply RSS
My mom takes a lot of pills and a typo from me caused her to take two 90 mg ER Nifedipine tablets. I am TERRIFIED that I have just hurt or worsened my mom. What will happen? Should I take her to the ER? Should I call the ambulance. Nothing has happened yet, but I am so scared. Her blood pressure before was 186 over 104, pulse 95. PLEASE HELP, I AM FREAKING OUT! ## Hello, Rhonda! How is your mom doing? Did she experience any adverse effects? Generally doubling up once doesn't cause any serious issues, other than possibly more severe side effects, according to the FDA. So she may experience more nausea, dizziness, headache, and urination than normal. It could also cause her blood pressure to be lower than usual. Is she on any other medications?

Hello, i've just started taking Adalat GITS 20mg for my high blood pressure. I still feel dizzy at times and my blood pressure is 130/90 still (it was extremely high last week and was also dizzy). How long will it take for this medication to work and regulate my blood pressure? I am now much stricter with my diet as well. ## How long have you been taking it? It may take 4 to 5 weeks for it to reach its full level of efficacy in your body to see how well it will work for you. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. ## Thanks for replying. I've been taking it for about 10 days now and struggling with the side effect, mostly the lightheadedness/headache. I've been bumped up to 30mg as my bp ...

Side effects of a double dose of Nifedipine
1 Reply RSS
Last night I might have taken Nifedipine er 30mg two times accidentally....at 8:30 and at 10:30. I had no side effects except for my pulse increasing from 73 to 93 within an hour of the second pill. It is now 6:23 a.m. I am fine but a little hesitant about whether to take my metoprolol succinate er 25 mg at 10:30 this morning. And do I resume the regular dose of Nifedipine tonight at about 9 pm? ## Did you experience any other symptoms? The FDA lists them as possibly including nausea, dizziness, and hypotension. And yes, generally you should just continue with your normal dosing schedule, unless your doctor directs otherwise. Are these the only medications you are currently taking?

incomplete dissolve and absorbtion of medication
3 Replies RSS
I started Nifedipine XR 30 mg last Friday, June 10,2016. I realize the tablet shells do not dissolve but I think the entire pill with the undissolved and unabsorbed medication is passing through my system. My blood pressure has not gone down since I started it 6 days ago. I happened to swallow a dental crown the same day I started the medication and have, unfortunately, been trying to retrieve my $900 crown so that I will not have to buy another. In this effort I have found 4 pills, each time thinking it was my crown, and upon inspection found the yellow medicine still inside each pill. My doc says I have absorbed the medicine but told me to double the dosage to 60 mg/day and was insulted when I mentioned the pharmacist told me to ask for a different medication. I have before and after ...

what is nifedipine used for
1 Reply RSS
can i use both metoprolol and nifedipine at the same time? ## As long as they have both been prescribed for you. Several medications are often prescribed to help bring someone's blood pressure down as fast, and safely as possibly. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Are you on any other medications? How high was your blood pressure?

nifedipine and ascard during pregnancy
1 Reply RSS
I am pregnant (33 weeks) and I don't know if it's ok to use both nifelat 20mg and ascard 75mg to control my blood pressure? ## You should take whatever medications your doctor has instructed you to take, it would be far more dangerous for both and your baby, if your blood pressure was out of control. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Congratulations on the baby!!! Are these the only medications you are taking?
