my Dr Rx 20 mEq tablets with my Lasix 40mg everyday. The mfg companies need to rethink their making of such a ' large and hard to swallow tablet'! I have choked numerous times and have had to be given medical help! Recently my RN crushed my tablet While I was in the hospital and I was found unresponsive. I have chronic abdominal pain 24/7, gastroparesis, gerds, and IBS. Remember the majority of K+ users are the elderly who have a difficulty swallowing!!! Nurse Jackie ## I don't know why you think the crushing of the medication had anything to do with you being found unresponsive. Potassium is not supposed to be crushed because of its corrosive properties. It can cause esophageal and stomach lining corrosion, the same way it burns if infused too quickly through an IV. KLOR-CON 10 MEQ hard on stomach. One every other day?
3 Replies RSS
My rx is round with KC 10 stamped on it. Can I take one every other day so my stomach doesn't feel bad all the time? ## Hello, Kelly! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. It's best to follow your doctor's prescribing instructions. Have you tried taking it with food, rather than on an empty stomach? That usually helps. As a matter of fact, when I was in the hospital and had to take it, they wouldn't give it to me without a meal or small snack. The FDA classifies this as a supplement and please be careful not to exceed your doctor's dosing, either, as too much of it can be just as dangerous as not enough. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for your response. my blood test showed a potassium level of 3.5. Is that just low a...

I am currently prescibed klor-con m20 potassium supplements. I pay 100 dollars for 100 tablets. Is there any where I could find them less expensively. I have to take 3 a day ## Hello, Diane! How are you? The best suggestion I can make is to check with the various pharmacies in your area to compare prices. It seems this is one that's become somewhat expensive everywhere. Will your insurance cover it? Does anyone else have any ideas? This medication can cause stomach irritation, so it is best to take it with food. ## I ran out of my klor con m20 potassium tablets, is there any over the counter potassium tablets I can take in place of this?

Why is the generic Klor-Con not in a powder?!?

The generic Klor-Con is not in a powder. Now my grandmother has these pills that she cannot take b/c there is now a generic and she is on Medicare. She cannot crush them b/c she is 97. Medicare wants $1200 to get the regular powder version. This is BS. ## Hello, JJ! How is your grandmother? I'm very sorry about the problem that you've run into. Yes, it is very expensive, even for the generic, to be honest. Have you spoken to her doctor? They may be able to advise you of an alternative, such as taking several of the over the counter potassium supplements that are available, or a special diet to raise her potassium. The FDA classifies this medication as a supplement and it is known to be very harsh on the stomach, so it should be taken with food. Alternatively, some blood pressure...

I have a prescription for Klor-con 20.what is similar in over the counter ## Hello, Terry! How are you? I'm sorry, but as listed by the FDA, this is a very potent potassium supplement and there is nothing available over the counter that is comparable. You'd have to take far, far too many of the over the counter supplements to be equivalent. Thus, it would be best to pick up the prescription and take it according to your doctors instructions. These are known to cause stomach upset, so they shouldn't be taken on an empty stomach and you should not crush, chew or break the tablets. Is there anything else I can help with?

Why is my Klor-Con powder prescription so expensive even with the co-pay ## Hi Judy, From what I understand, prices can often vary at the pharmacy's discretion, depending on what cost they received it at from the manufacturer/distributor. However if money remains a concern, I would encourage you to try various drug discount cards, such as the one MedsChat offers here: RX Savings Card Coupons like these can reportedly save you anywhere from 15 to 75% off your prescription, and are valid at most pharmacies here in the US. The card can be printed out and brought with you when you go to fill your prescription, in order to see what type of discount they offer. Not sure if you might be aware of this or not, but fruits and vegetables are also abundant in minerals including potassium. If yo...

I have potassium level of 3.3 and was prescribed Pot Chlor Er(Klor-Con M20)Tb 20Meq but I have Irritable bowel syndrome and Gerd's and the medicine appears to be irritative to the stomach and esophagus. In addition I cannot swallow such a big thick pill. Is there a substitute which is liquid or powder? ## There are other potassium supplements available over the counter, but to be equivalent to this, you'd have to take a lot of them and the risk of them being irritating to your gastric system will still be there. That can actually be mitigated by making sure to take it with food, rather than on an empty stomach and will a full glass of water. However, if you really can't swallow it, then check with your doctor, they may have some other idea that could help. Are there any othe...

Pot Chlor

Are you supposed to take a water pill (furosemide 40mg) with Pot Chlor ?? ## Hello, Earl! How are you? No, the potassium chloride can be prescribed by itself, if your potassium level has tested low. It is just a nutritional supplement and does not require a diuretic to work. Since it's very potent, its most common side effect is nausea and stomach pain. The reason it is often prescribed at the same time as a water pill/diuretic is due to the fact that many of them cause potassium loss, which can be very dangerous, so some people need to take them to keep their potassium levels up. Is there anything else I can help with?

Con you tell me how many bananas I have to eat to get the same amount of potassium as one klor-con m20 tab? ## Hello, Frank! How are you? From what I can find, they estimate approximately 1 mEq per inch of banana, so you'd need to eat 20 inches of banana for each tablet you are supposed to take. It would likely be easier to just take the tablets, rather than eating bananas all day, every day. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for the information. I was curious. That is a lot of bananas especially in light of the fact I'm not that crazy about bananas. The pill, though, is a bit hard to swallow. Again, thank you for the effort. Frank

Why is Klor Con so expensive
1 Reply RSS
KDur or Klor Con has been around for many many years but still is very expensive. It is more costly than some newer meds that do not have generics. How is this possible? Is this a question of greed on the part of pharmacies. This is a frequently ordered drug. ## Hello, Jean! How are you? Actually, it's not as frequently ordered as most. It is only ordered when someone's potassium is dangerously low, otherwise, it's not safe for someone to take it. Thus, the demand for it is actually low, so very few companies manufacture it, since it isn't very profitable to do so. In order to make any money back on their investment, the companies that do can't afford to give it a cheap price. I'm sorry, I do understand what a burden it is, when something is expensive, but these ...
