Withdrawing From Hydroxyz Or Vistaril
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have been on this medicine for a year or more. At first it was great, I stayed focus, filled with energy and lost a lot of weight. As time went by the effects I listed wore off and now, I just felt very tired. I gradually weaned myself off, but now I fine I am emotional, weepy, and hungry all the time. I don't finish a project and things that was fun is not. What can one do to minimize the withdrawal symtoms.

How did you taper it, and how long have you been off of it?

Vistaril/Hydroxyzine is sometimes used to its sedative like effects to help treat panic and anxiety disorders. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, drowsiness, headache, dry mouth, and somnolence.

Ref: Vistaril Information

It can be normal to experience some rebound effects, when you stop taking it, or a proper taper isn't followed to stop taking it.

Are you on any other medications?

angel, i just wanted to say that i know exactly how you feel. I was on the same medicine (started at 30mg and then gradually to 70mg) for about 6 months. After stopping the medicine, I had the same side effects. I then took concerta after that, concerta definately made me fore happy, but it didnt really do a good job controlling my adhd (wasnt as focused). After 2 weeks on concerta, which felt like 2 months, i went back to vyvanse. A two week break was all it took, it was almost like the time I first took it. With amphetamines, everyone needs a break every once in a while to regain your dopamine and s**t back know. hope that helped.
