I have an infected large bump on my calf. What is the extensive list of side effects for this medication?

I'm just saying that if a doctor prescribes a specific dosage of an antibiotic.. take it as directed because cutting the pill in half (or taking a lesser dose) can be very counterproductive.. and is one of the things that causes bacteria to gain resistance.

I'm curious about the sleeplessness at night. I have no other side effects, thankfully, but I have 3 days to go and wonder if I should change the time of my second dose.

I don't think it will make a deference as the side effects appear to be cumulative the longer you use it the worse it gets. I changed my time of taking it with no effect.

I went in for a medical checkup and had a PSA test. After getting the results the Dr. prescribed sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 due to the PSA test being elevated. He did a physical exam of the prostate and said it felt fine. How does this medicine help lower the PSA? I am confused. Thanks for anyones ideas,,,,

Glad I found this page, now I know what's going on.
Taking Sulfameth/Trimethoprim 800/160 for an infection that developed two weeks after ankle surgery, my incision site decided to start swelling and weeping Serosanguineous fluid.

I have been taking this drug for seven days and over the last four the side effects are unpleasant. It is causing horrible sleepless nights where I am so tired that I "pass out" (not sleep) for no more than an hour and a half and wake up burning with fever. During the day it's like you battery gets pulled and you have to fall asleep for about an hour and wake burning with fever. Sitting here writing this reply my upper chest, neck and face are burning up. I suspected it was this antibotic, now I know it is from reading about those of you that are having the same problems and I'm not dying from the hardware in my leg rusting out and poisioning me. Ha

I've been on Sulfa/Trim 800/160 and I'm wondering if anyone has had sore jaws??? When I try to chew, each of my jaws have a dull pain and it takes about one minute to calm down then I can take another bite. Any one else have this problem? So it's just easier not to eat anything I have to chew.

I have a UTI that my doctor perscribed 2 pills a day for 3 days. I finished the medication on Thursday and here it is Monday and I still have the same symptoms. Nothing has changed. I've taken a whole box of the medicine you buy over the counter but it says to not take for more than 3 days. I'm miserable.

im really glad i saw ur comment cuz i was prescribed sulfameth ive only been taking it for 2 days and i got sick this morning and i was lightheaded and dizzy and got real hot for no reason yesterday i just wanted to make sure i wasnt the only one but they prescribed 56 pills and i have to take 2 every 12 hours am i going to feel like this the whole time ?

No it will get progressively worse. I would ask the doc. to change it there are other drugs that are just as effective.

My doc prescribed Sulfameth for a UTI. Ever since I started taking it I am experiancing a lot of clear watery leakage. I don't know if it's urine or what it is. I feel nothing and it just happens. It seems like it happens after I take the pills. It did not happen until after I took the first pill. I have not took any today and the leaking is alot less than it has been. Are the pills causing this?

I think that's an allergic reaction. I don't think your face should get swollen.

I'm glad to hear all the side affects I"m having from this medication sound normal. I've been on the drug for 9 days now and I'm looking forward to finally being finished with it. My skin feels like it is burning and I'm nauseous all the time. Most days I get a terrible headache and really stiff neck. It seems to have done it's job for the UTI though. Just wish it didn't make me so miserable.

My husband is taking SUlfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 twice daily (every 12 hrs) for skin infection (abcess). He has extremely red eyes and stuffy nose as side effects. Sometimes he feels a little week, as if having a common cold. Is that normal? Should we see a doctor?
