Methadone Clinics In Nh Really Make Me Mad
(Newest replies first)

These clinics make a ton of money, don't kick you out for dirty UA's, (just cant have take-homes) always have a dozen reasons why you can't lower your dose, (doctors on vacation, not safe ect) BUT don't hesitate to kick you out if you haven't got your money to dose, or lose your insurance!!! And 2x have dosed my daughter the wrong dose!!!!! She takes 3 5mg daily and last year screwed up and gave her 20 and 3 days ago doses her with 110mg!!!! The government wants to keep making money....If they truly want to clean up our kids then they need to get them on Suboxone, and make it affordable for them....not dose them up to 400 mg of Methadone a day!!!

@Amanda; That is funny you say that because my clinic does some of those same things you mentioned about making it hard on you to try and get them to taper you. When you tell your counselor in group that you want to start taper, he will change the subject or act like he didn't hear you. It sure does fall on deaf ears. They don't kick you out if your U/A's keep coming up dirty, they just deny you take homes. If you don't turn up for your weekly one hour group they just ask you the next week where you've been. I even mentioned on another thread here that I just noticed that when the nurse fills my take home bottles that there is already a little clear liquid in the bottles BEFORE the methadone is dispensed from the tube. I saw all her little empty, or what are supposed to be empty, bottles in a box off to the side and THEY ALL had a little bit of clear liquid already in them. I know this because the bottles were not labeled with patient and dose info yet. That was the box she got my empties from to put my take home in. But my point being is that they make it really hard to get them to start your taper when you feel like you are ready. The Dr. ALWAYS seems to be on vacation for a week at a time what seems like once a month. They dont even have another doctor to take her place when she is out so absolutely nothing is accomplished during this time. But try not paying them and not having insurance and see how fast they give you a 28 day administrative taper! Something is smelling really fishy at this place... I didn't even mention that on January 1st of 2017, they lost their federal funding so now, the only way they make money is to do more and more intakes... Hmmmmm!

You couldn't be more right. There are bad clinics but for the most part after a client is stable they realize some of the things that they thought were harsh rules were only designed to help them get clean and to quit making excuses and placing blame elsewhere. Some people are forced into treatment by family. That never works. Aperdon won't succeed until they are ready to quit. And if they aren't they will continue to think the world is out to get them and clinic rules are there to make their life difficult. I have been on mmt for 16 yrs.I haven't had one dirty u/a since my intake. The first year is the hardest but I didn't have family to run to to fix my problems. I think that actually helped me. Im not sure how long I will remain on methadone but I have medical problems that require pain treatment and became addicted to those meds. Methadone allows the problem to be treated without the euphoria that comes from other opiates. I couldn't do the things on pain pills I can do now. Like work, pay taxes, go to school, volunteer and raise my children. Mmt works for those who are ready to not use illicit drugs. And if he daughter truly is than she will comply with clinic rules. If this is actually a bad clinic she can go elsewhere. But chances are mom will be jumping from clinic to clinic trying to appease her daughter and not allowing her to get the stability she needs to succeed in treatment

Amanda,

Outstanding advice, I too have a clinic that most would die to be on. I think it's Important to decipher what's truth or just some frustrated parent lashing out at anything because her daughter has convinced her the clinic is the problem. That absolves the addict of any true
Responsibility and the mother deflects her guilt on an easy target.Classic co-dependent relationship...So, who truly suffers? The compliant patient who plays by the rules yet suffers the Discrimination and stigmatization that clients of these clinics often endure
Thru propaganda misrepresentation. There are plenty sub par clinics but by attacking the treatment as an effective alternative is arbitrary and capricious. Thank you for sharing your history. Regards, Zed.

This is a bad clinic.my clinic would never hesitate to take you down if you wanted it.It is your call. And to go up you request and periodically they test your blood level to make sure you are metabolizing it and are on the right amount.some clinics want to get patients on a high dose so they have a more difficult time getting off when the are ready.and make going down a fight for the same reason.it has nothing to do with safety.its $$$.a client that goes down too much will feel too much discomfort and go up a little to stabilize.there is no danger in taking someone down what they want. The patient will realize if it's too fast for them.We have councilor that are always available for requesting dose changes and when I request one it is in effect the next day I come in.this is the proper way of doing things.Vacations??someone should be there to address these matters when the dr is out.try to change clinics.yours seems very corrupt.best of luck
