I have a family member that has a history of cocaine abuse. They are prescribed generic lexapro. My family member recently had a positive drug screen. Could the generic lexapro cause a false positive, and if so, for what?

It shouldn't. An older class of antidepressants known as TCAs (Tricyclic Antidepressants) would, but not SSRIs or SNRIs. There's a fairly good Wikipedia article on what's included in a standard drug panel:

However, you should be aware that the "poppy seed" myth, isn't a myth. If you're subject to random testing for opiates, just stay say no to that poppyseed bagel.

I just read an article from a medical study saying that lexapro (or escitalopram oxalate) can cause false positives for benzodiazepines. I don't remember the name, but came across it while searching for an answer to my false positive. It shouldn't be hard to find. I've read many comments saying it can't, but I've also read many questions from ppl asking why they have a false benzo positive & most are taking this medicine. However unlikely some say this is, there has to be something to it. I will continue to read more into this though. I also read somewhere about a "big list" of drugs that cause false positives. Most of my medications were listed, but so were a lot of known drugs. It's hard to know what to believe. All I know for sure is the situation I have found myself in stinks.
