Brintellix Start Up And Dose Increase
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Hello, I started Brintellix 4 weeks ago. I started with 5mg and tapered off Effexor over the next 2 weeks (bad reaction to Effexor). The switch from Effexor to Brintellix wasn't as bad as I thought, neither was the increase to 10 mg. I was on the 10mg for 2 weeks with a marked improvement in my overall condition (anxiety and depression). Anxiety was non existent and, although still difficult, I began to be able to function better. I updated my doctor and he recommended increasing the dose to 15mg. This was yesterday and it was hell. For an hour or so I felt more upbeat, lighter on my feet. It felt like this was it, this is what's going to work at long last. But then I experienced a sudden, what I would describe as, a crash. I became very anxious and very depressed. The fact that I was experiencing this only exasperated these symptoms. I took a klonopin, something I haven't had to take in awhile, and trudged through my day. Today I took the 15 again and got in touch with my doctor regarding the previous day. My question was are these symptoms typical of a dose increase, maybe from my body adjusting to the new med, and if so will it subside? The response I got is basically he is unsure. So that would be my question, is the sudden "high" followed by the crash atypical for a dose increase? Other than Brintellix the only other AD I'm taking is Celexa, which I've been taking for years. Today the anxiety and depressed feelings are not as bad and I know it will take some time to feel the full effect of the 15 mg. If this is just part of my body adjusting to the new dose, I don't want to back down. Even though it's not working completely, I feel as though I'm closer that I ever have been to something that will work. Any thoughts on this would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Hey, I was hoping to know how it went? I just increased my dose from 10mg to 15mg of Brintellix last week. I've been feeling restless (my legs, especially) and anxious so far. People often talk about adjusting to new medications. But is it possible to have difficulties with adjusting to higher doses as well?

Doing better, a lot less side effects than the Effexor. I was treating the side effects with DHEA and I was able to discontinue that. Just dealing with what I'm guessing is the withdrawal from that.

Yes, that can happen, when you start such a medication, or when you raise the dosage.

Typically, it takes about 3 weeks for such issues to go away, once you're on one steady dose.

Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and weight changes, as listed by the FDA.

How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?
