Yutopar Aka Ritodrine (Page 5)

This drug was used for women going into pre-mature labor. It was used to stop the contractions. Unfortunately it had major side effects on the babies. This was an experimental drug used from 1980 -1990 and was then discontinued. I was given this drug and my daughter was born 6 weeks early, had her by c-section. I begin to notice around 12 yrs old that problems were arising in her mental health, still not realizing that this drug played an important factor. I have found many women that this to has happened to, and I'm still looking for more families that this has effected. It is devastating and a nightmare for my daughter who is now 30 yrs. old. If you have any information I would really like to visit with you about your child. Thank you for reading this, we need to band together for our kids.

Another relapse for my daughter. This time she said she was close to suicide. Medicaid facilities are not cutting it for her, and I realize that she must work the program also. The problem is that both her mental health and addiction issues are not being addressed simultaneously. Yutopar has a major role in her issues and there's nothing we can do.

There are other people with similar stories about Yutopar/Ritodrine. There seems to be many children (now adults) that were affected by this drug taken for preterm labor. Many mothers of these children have not made the connection yet. I was on this drug with my youngest for premature labor, but was switched to Brethine after developing heart problems. I've also read horror stories about Brethine posted on these sites.

I would be willing to launch a letter writing campaign if we could round up enough people to make an impact. Maybe folks like Dr. Oz or Dr. Phil could Bring more "Ritodrine Babies" awareness to people who were given the drug and had "troubled" children who never "grew out of it". I've adopted a "crack baby" who is 10 now and has been diagnosed with Autism. Not that the two have anything to do with each other, but there was not enough research done on "crack babies" to concede anything definite. There are a few articles that call Crack babies the generation that never was - but I tend to dissagree. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome was studied at great length for years and it has been recognized as a "Syndrome". It's real. That's all I would like to start with when talking about "Ritodrine Babies".

No lawyer seems interested. Maybe our only hope is someone like Dr. Oz or Dr. Phil.

Who and How can an action be taken against the FDA? or the drug manufacturer? or any entity that promoted, wrecklessly released and quietly pulled from the market the drug Yutopar???. Because NOW there appears to be an alarming number of children born to the mothers who took Ritodrin/Yutopar during pregnancy adversely affected by this drug.

I was given Yutopar in 1982 for premature labor and my son was born full term. He has suffered all his life with behavior disorders and has been given multiple diagnoses'. While taking Yutopar I suffered bad side effects and wondered if the drug would affect the baby, but it was difficult to get any answers because the drug was new and experimental (my insurance did not pay for it and it was very expensive), but no one knew the LONG term effects on the child. It's just too coincidental that there are so many (now grown) children of mothers who took Yutopar who have experienced similar life experiences. I need validation that this drug contributed to my sons' disabilities.

I think a woman in Australia died while on the drug, and that was what led to its being banned. At the time the babies weren't showing any ill effects, but some mothers were. One followup study on the children followed them to the age of five or so. Unfortunately the problems weren't manifesting until puberty.

My son is living a life of hell due to this drug. Please file a report with FDA explaining the effects it has had on your child. If enough of us do this, maybe they will be forced to address this and give us answers. Anyone know the original reasons given for removing it from the market?

I'm am 33 and today I was diagnosed with bicuspid aortic valve disorder. My mom was also diagnosed with a heart anurisum. None is hereditary. She also took this drug to prevent premature birth and I was unborn 12 weeks early. Trying to find an answer. Anyone else experience heart or circulatory problems

Most parents on this thread report having taken the drug for many weeks or months of their pregnancies. I am surprised that your son has been so affected when you took the drug for just one week. However, I suppose it is possible that the drug could be the cause. It makes sense to me that babies could be more or less vulnerable to the drug in utero, depending on the stage of development when exposed.

This drug has affected some many families... Is the seizures due from the drug you took the answer is yes... I would recommend that any future use of this drug not be used... We are trying to warn new mothers this is not a good outcome even though our babies survived they live in a dark place that no drug can fix. Good luck to you and your son.

J, you went into early labor at 11 weeks and you were kept on the drug throughout the remainder of your pregnancy? Where do you live? This drug was taken off the market in the United States over 26 years ago!

And how many kids fighting this demon not understanding why..... Between this blog and my social media pages word is spreading... Parents there is strength in numbers.... We won't be ignored and swept under the rug... We will fight for a better life for our kids....

If there are people willing to take on the drug company and/or the FDA, count me in; I'll even help to find legal aid. F*** statutes of limitations. These problems didn't come up in the preschool years for some.

Had a Very similar experience with my daughter continuing to date. My neighbor tells of a similar story also. I would really like to speak with you about any similarities in symptoms they might have and if anything has worked for you. Symptoms seem to range beginning from early childhood to early puberty then seem to be ongoing for all these kids. Someone needs to collect the data, I bet we all have more in common than we know.

The law should take into consideration that symptoms don't emerge until puberty, and we are just now starting to lay blame where it belongs. The FDA is the culprit here if it led US doctors to believe this drug was safe for more than 2 weeks of use as originally intended by those marketing the drug in the Netherlands.
