Xolair Neurological Reaction
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have a brain injury due to an unfortunate meeting with a moose and my car. I was doing very well. I actually went skiing in February. My last xolair injection was march 1. On march 2, I had to go to the ER because of anaphylaxis. By march 6, I couldn't walk well. I was admitted to the rehab unit at the hospital for 12 days. I am using a walker to get around. Has anyone else had reaction similar, or a neurological reaction?

Re: G (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Hello, I'm sorry to hear that you too are experiencing leg pain also. I'm also having severe joint pain. I had nothing even close to the amount of pain that I have now. I'm truly considering stopping my Xolair.

My long term prognosis is probably one year or longer with a walker, then hopefully to a cane. Being that I have had a TBI, I know what I am talking about. I also have a medical background. What really upsets me is if I had known about the possibility of a CNS reaction I would have been able to avoid this. To go from fairly good independence to dependance is hard to take. A brain injury takes time. The wonderful brain has to make new pathways around the damaged nerves caused by xolair. It's a waiting game. I had a walker for 2 years the first time.

I now know I have nerve damage. Xolair works by binding to the nerve endings. The parent drug of xolair should not be used by anyone with nerve disease. It will take close to a year or longer to get back to where I was before. With the original TBI , I worked really hard to get to the point of being able to ski again. I did it in and skied in feb.2013. I went from that to where I am now in one month after having xolair. People should be aware.

Hi, Michele! I am very sorry about what happened to you.

Anaphylaxis is actually the main adverse reaction listed for Xolair and it is likely that it is what caused the neurologic problems. Thus, they are basically an indirect result of the Xolair and a direct result of the anaphylactic reaction.

Learn more Xolair details here.

Anaphylaxis has been known to occur in 1 to 2 out of every 1,000 patients that take this medication.

What is your long-term prognosis?
