Viibryd- The Good And The Bad
UpdatedSo I have been on Viibryd since the summer of 2012. The first few weeks were awful as my body adjusted- little sleep, nauseous constantly, diarrhea- but I knew that could be the case. I worked my way through the pack to 40mg and have been there ever since. I have been on so many meds I've lost track of them all. I have bipolar type 2, which means I am depressed almost all the time with occasional manic episodes. Before adding Viibryd, I had been on Abilify only. Now I take both as well as Klonopin when needed. I felt I had found my life saver with Viibryd!! I was myself for the first time in years: no depression, no crying spells, just me. This wonderful drug had saved me. Or so I thought.... after about a year, I hit a rough patch. It was the anniversary of my father's suicide and I just couldn't cope anymore. The depression was back in full force and the nightmares began. My doc gave me meds to help me sleep but all they did was make me a drowsy mess. The nightmares were just as bad switching to another sleep aid. So I gave up the sleep aids and just kept fighting it with the help of therapy. Then the sleep paralysis started. You are almost awake, almost asleep, but have no control. The visions that came along with it were terrifying and I have never been so scared in my life. So I tell my psychiatrist and he contributes it to grief. Nothing changes.... the first time I forget to take my Viibryd is absolute HELL! Withdraw like I've never felt after only a few hours. I then asked for a change to my meds to no avail. They are working just fine, my doctor says. Take them earlier with food, he tells me. I comply because he knows what he's talking about, right? The dreams, sleep paralysis became intermittent so I stayed with the Viibryd. Fast forward to the last few weeks- wake up every morning in a cold sweat knowing only that I am freaked out by whatever crazy thing happened in my dreams and have dealt with at least one episode of sleep paralysis almost every night. I'm irritated by everything and just overall in a funk. To top it all off, my psychitrist up and left his practice with no notice 2 days before I was supposed to go see him! I feel like a crazy wreck right now and hopefully will get into another doctor asap but I am just wondering if anyone else has been on Viibryd for this long? Is it hard to wean off and how bad is the process?
