Smz Tmp Ds 800 160 Rash

I was prescribed this along with a steroid for a infected beesting. I was taking both meds for 4 days then only this for the past 3 days.I stopped taking it yesterday because my whole body is covered in a blotchy red rash that is extreemly itchy and feels like my skin is on fire. Today is the second day of not taking it, but the rash is still everywhere. Feet to neck I'm covered in a crazy rash. I've never had a reaction like this before, is there anything I can do? I've been drinking lots of water hoping to flush my system.

Unfortunately, even if you only took it for a few days, the rash may last a week or so. I had it happen to me a few months ago.

You did the right thing by stopping it, since if you continue taking it after getting the rash, it could turn into a more serious and dangerous condition.

That also means that in the future you should not take this again, nor other sulfa based antibiotic options.

If it's itchy, you may want to try something like Benadryl, if you can take it.

Your doctor can also prescribe a topical steroid cream that may help.

I know it's very annoying and I'm sorry this happened to you. I was miserable from it for quite awhile.

I also found that a warm bath helped.

I too was taking the SMZ/TMP 800-160 and really thought that my skin rash (which has not been fully confirmed but fits the bill of a staph infection) was getting better. On the fifth day- I too woke up with more rash covering my stomach and head. Not thinking I did take the pill that morning but stopped it that night. I checked the side affects and rash was not one of them. So I appreciate your post. Thanks.
