I am Bipolar and take 900mg Epilum in the morning as well as 900mg in the evening. I suffer from severe major depression which went through the roof after a teriible year of great losses. My GP has now put me on 20mg Cilift. Hello, my son (16) has been taken off of prozac. 10mg for 1 year. He was not tapered off, doc said it was unnecessary since it stays in the body longer than most others. He is 2 weeks off of it and is now having bad dizziness, confusion, nausea and is extremely irritable. He is generally a very easy going guy (even before meds) suddenly, he's very short tempered. I've been on fluoxetine for 6 months, starting off on 20mg and now on 60mg for my ocd. I also take seroquel 75mg daily spread out. Recently i have started to feel really high, like coming up on "xtc". I went to the doctors and they referred it to be SAD seasonal affective disorder, but i feel like its to do with the medication. My soon to be 13 year old son has been recommended to start Lovan which I understand is same as Prozac. He has suffered with anxiety issues for several years and it has worsened now that he recently started high school (in Sydney Aust.). He is often stressed and unhappy. I have finally got back to prozac instead of the generic version of prozac and my heartburn is gone.. I have suffered with SEVERE heartburn for 4 years. I finally talked my doctor into giving me the brand name instead of generic and sure enough that was the cause of it.. Back 20 years ago I was put on prozac and was on it for many years and about 4 years ago I started getting generic prozac (fluoxetine) and within 30 minutes of taking it I had SUPER SEVERE heartburn that lasted for many hours!!! I would take antacids, tums, zantac, pepto, milk, Everything but nothing would put the fire out!! It's been 2 weeks now on brand name prozac and NO HEARTBURN!!! THANK THE LORD!!!! I started prozac a week ago I also have been taking latuda for about a month and lamictial for over a year. I noticed there's no.way not to that my anxiety is 1,000 x's worse since I started the prozac. I get so anxious for NO reason whatsoever and my heart races. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this and if so how long does it normally last. This is horrible. I am on day 21 of Prozac. I also take 90 mg. Cymbals, 300 mg lithium and clonazepam as needed. After starting the Prozac I am so exhausted I can hardly function. My doc wants me to up the Prozac to 40mg. I have had major depression most of my life. I feel I'm overestimated, and none of it is helping much anyway. Thoughts? Thank you. ## Hello, Suzy! How are you? Prozac has been known to cause that as a side effect, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight loss. However, it should improve once you're on one steady dose for about 4 to 5 weeks and your body gets used to the medication. I am on 5 th week 20 mg of Prozac. Up to 5 days I was also taking xanax .50mg per day. Now that I feel better with my depression, I have stopped taking xanax. The last 3 days I cant sleep and at night when I close my eye my mind doesnt shut. Also still struggling with shortness of breath and some panic attacks. Specially now that stopped taking xanax. I am on the 14th day of prozac 20 mg. Have Major panic attacks, anixety attacks and of course depression. I use to be on zoloft 50 mg and even up to 100 mg but stopped working for me. I have tried herbal remedies and end result was digging myself deeper with my panics. So I started to take xanax 0.25 mg 3 or 4 times a day so I can function and go to work. However I really dont want to use xanax this much. I really hope prozac will work soon. Like I said 14th days and had few good moments but still feel the anixety and panic if I dont take xanax. What happens when you stop taking Prozac. I have taken it for 35 years and currently take 40 mg a day. What is the best way to stop? ## Hello, Kate! How are you? It would best to speak to your doctor, so they can help you set up a slow tapering schedule. Prozac is an SSRI that has a relatively long half-life, so it's usually easier to stop that most of the others, but you may still experience some withdrawal effects, such as nausea, diarrhea, rebound depression, rebound anxiety, weight gain and vaginal bleeding. I am on prozac.for 5 days now, I feel nausea all lday and have lost my appetite. I also feel like I have sinus infection & insomnia. Does anyone know how long these side effects will last. I am on 20 mg. ## When I started it, or any time we've raised my dosage, I found that the side effects lasted about 3 weeks, before tapering off. As listed by the FDA, you may also experience dizziness, headache and dry mouth. If things don't improve, or it they get worse, you should consult your doctor. The generic Prozac I am looking for is 4346 40mg capsule made by Teva. They do not carry it where I live. Does someone know where I might find this medications? Thank You ## @Smith21, One thing you might want to consider is contacting Teva Pharmaceuticals directly in order to determine which pharmacies (and locations) they supply their products with; specifically generic Prozac. My understanding is that they should be able to provide you with a list of who has their products and/or when they send out shipments, unless some of that information is classified... I'm 24 weeks pregnant with twin boys. I am currently Not on antidepressants. I was prior to finding out I was pregnant, I was being prescribed Prozac 40mgs. When I found out I was prego, I started weening myself off over the next two weeks. No problems. No withdrawal. No depression. This was in January of this year. Now we are in May, and I am completely OUT of my mind. Bat s*** crazy. & emotional as ever. Sure, I'm sure the hormonal thing has got my emotions out of whack, but its worse than just that I think. I am on Rezak 20mg a day (Generic for Prozac) and Zanor SR 1mg a day.(Azor) I have been on antidepressants for the last 26 years.The reason was that I had a chemical imbalance (so the Dr said) and was put on tablets. As time has gone by the tablets have been changed.There is always a better one on the market.To cut a long story short, and not bore you, the bottom line is ARE THERE NATURAL TABLETS available in these modern times. Lately I have not been myself.I don't know if it is the new generic that I have been put on. When is the last time your doctor checked your hormone levels? Have you considered trying anything else to treat these symptoms? Some women have very good luck with an SSRI, such as Prozac. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache and weight loss. But yes, if you're still having symptoms, that's a good sign that you aren't balance, yet.

This information would better enable me to answer your question. For example, if you're taking it for anxiety and/or depression, then I'd suggest asking your doctor about Prozac/Fluoxetine. It is classified by the FDA as an SSRI antidepressant and is well known to not cause the weight gain than many others do. As a matter of fact, it has sometimes caused weight loss, along with nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth.

I think as long as Evanston can continue to utilize this molecule while minimizing the types of side effects that plague most prescription drugs, they'd find much success expanding on it's application for depression. The research backing up their experiments gives hope to those with treatment resistant depression and in my opinion may be a viable alternative for patients seeking a safer approach to managing these symptoms in the long run. So I made the mistake of going from being on 40mg of prozac for a year to 0 mg cold turkey around Nov. 24. Withdrawal symptoms didn't kick in until about 3 weeks later when I had terrible diarrhea in the morning. Since then, I've had daily GI upsets including diarrhea, painful trapped wind at night, indigestion, abdominal cramps, etc. Along with this (or maybe caused by these symptoms) my anxiety has come back with a vengeance and I've had tons of crying spells and constant flu like symptoms. About 7 weeks through being off, I couldn't take it and went back to the doctor who prescribed me on 20mg of Prozac which i've been taking for 3 days now. Was not agreeing with prozac panic attacks. Yesterday seen my doctor and said zoloft work much better for anxiety and panic. Been on prozac 20mg for 10 days. His plan is to take zoloft 50 every morning and prozac every other day for three more times and quit. That would mean on three days I would take zoloft in the morning and prozac in the afternoon.
