Plavix And Leukemia
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Is there a connection? My husband received 2 stents, one in October 2008 and a medicated one in November 2008. He was then placed on Plavix. In November 2009 he was diagnosed with AML leukemia, he passed away 6/2010 at the age of 56. There was no obvious reason for him to get leukemia, it is rare for someone that young to have AML. We know that his heart disease was genetic. He was very health conscious, always ate healthy, exercised and was in great physical condition. I have read little tidbits about Plavix causing bone marrow damage and am wondering if there are other Plavix patients that have or had Leukemia. Thanks, Chris

Re: Ruth (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

My husband was 54 and I know in my gut Plavix killed him. His cardiologist committed suicide and his family doctor prescribed it for years and I don't think it can be taken that long. My life has been ruined :(

Hello. I live in the UK and my husband died of AML in Jan '13 after being on Plavix, this has destroyed me. He was on a trial for this God forsaken drug and when I rang the doctor in charge of the trial he laughed and said I was talking rubbish so if I was talking rubbish why had he felt it necessary to warn Harvard something or other in Boston that my husband had died of leukaemia. To the day I die I will blame this drug.

Thanks for the info. I have received a lot of radiation over the past 18 months. Diagnosed with lymphoma 1/16. Have had 3PET/CT scans. 20 radiation therapy treatments. Several CT scans. Numerous x-rays. In 2010 had 6 stents placed, under flouroscopy. Have been on Plavix since then. All makes me a bit nervous.

I did fill out an FDA report back in 2010 right after losing my mother. I have heard absolutely nothing back, not even an acknowledgement of receiving my complaint against Plavix. Please everyone, file the complaint to the FDA. The more of us they hear from, they will eventually have to look into this.

It is imperative that we report the seriousness of Plavix or its generic Clopidogrel. The FDA takes suspected adverse drug experiences seriously and encourage you to submit a report to the FDA's MedWatch Program on your relative's behalf. This is the FDA program for reporting serious adverse drug events. You can report directory to MedWatch via the internet. You can find a link to the voluntary reporting form by going to the MedWatch homepage [fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch.htm] click on the red "Report a Problem" tab and then click on Consumer Patient tab found on the right side of the page. Alternatively, you can download the appropriate paper reporting form [found at fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/HowtoReport.htm] and either fax it to 1-800-FDA-0178 or mail it to the address indicated on the form. Please get the message out to them. There is a definite correlation between Plavix and Leukemia!!

My husband had the actual drug Plavix for about 6 months. After it was taken off patent he was given generic Plavix. The Supreme Court ruled that a generic pharmaceutical drug company can not be litigated against. Therefore there is no way an attorney will take the case. I am writing everyone. Congressman , newspapers, etc because this decision has to be reversed. Be mindful that 80 percent of drugs dispensed are generic.

Please let me know how we can get this information out to the public to see how many other patients were on Plavix and were then diagnosed with MDS or AML leukemia. Every lawyer that I have spoken to and believe you me there are quite a few the focus is not on the leukemia just the bleeding. I believe there are many people who have gone through this and are still going through this. What other forum can be used to get added input?

Please let me know of a law firm that believes there is a direct correlation between plavix and aml leukemia. I can not believe the legal case regarding talcum powder. Why is nothing done about Plavix....? In addition he had cerebral hemorrhaging, etc.??? Please respond. My husband died in December 2015.

My husband had taken plavix for approximately 2 years due to a TIA. In October of 2015 he was diagnosed with AML leukemia and died in December of 2015. Why is this drug on the market? I have researched the web and seen volumes of message which describe similar situations of plavix and AML. If this had been acted upon perhaps my husband would be alive today. Please let us get this awful drug off the market to save other lives.

Hello Stephanie, I am so sorry to hear about your husband. I am still looking for legal suits on Plavix causing bone marrow cancers (MDS and AML). But for now I encourage everyone to report all information to the FDA. This can be done online. It's called the MedWatch Online Voluntary Reporting Form on the FDA website. We need to let the FDA know that Plavix causes bone marrow cancer not just bleeding risks.

My husband was diagnosed with AML after taking plavix for about a year and a half. He was diagnosed in October and died in December. Something has to be done about this. There are too many cases such as this. Is there a legal suit? I would be interested in stopping this drug from being dispensed.

My husband has been taking plavix for about 6 years and has recently been diagnosed with MDS (Raeb-2). We also think its all because of Plavix.......( he is 70 trs. old).

Hello Nancy, I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. I have looked for legal cases regarding Plavix and can only find cases for bleeding issues and not ones for causing bone marrow changes that turn into blood cancers like AML. I'm still looking and will reach out should I find anything. Best of luck to you and your husband.

My Dad also took Plavix after a stint was placed, and he died of AML! He did not have high cholesterol, so I was very concerned why his doctor put him on this drug, and in fact, I didn't realize he was taking it because we had a conversation about not really needing to be on it...we felt like an aspirin a day would be enough to thin his blood for the stint. But evidently, he decided to do what the doctor said, and now he is gone. I do believe Plavix gave my Dad AML, and only one doctor I talked to would admit that Plavix could've done this to my Dad...the rest of them deny, deny, deny! Beware of Plavix!!!!!!

I suspect Plavix caused my father to get acute myeloid leukemia. He had a medicated stint, but not due to high chloresterol. The Dr put him on Plavix for 5 years...he was not feeling well for the last 4 months and went into the hospital with some kind of stomach virus to find his platelets were too low. Drs immediately took him off Plavix. He was scheduled for bone bioptsy but ended up in the hospital again feeling very weak. They did the bone morrow bioptsy on Mon, found out he had AML on Wed and he died on Mon. He had been healthy, and I never believed he should've been on Plavix. Only one doctor would not deny it could've been the Plavix...I think most doctors do what the drug companies want...
