Mallinckrodt Pharmacuticals Hydrocodone, M357.
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Using Mallinckrodt M357 hydrocodone and pain was perfectly controlled. About 20 months later my pharmacy changes the manufacturer to Watson. This new hydrocodone is not working as fast nor as effective. This leads me to using more than i normally would with Mallinckrodt M357. I am still within the doctors prescibed range but i do not like using any more than need be. My doctor has not an answer. What i would like to do is find a Pharmacy in the maryville, tennessee area that carries Mallinckrodt M357 to see if it is the medication or me building resistance. I do not think it is me because my back pain told me the first day of Watson use that it was not working. I have been now with the Watson for about two months.

Update to post on Oct 10, 14
Normally receive my meds via Post Office, started getting them one day by UPS. My RX is for NORCO 10/325, had been receiving the yellow oval pills in pharmaceutical sealed container, new ones were white oblong, marked M357, container was an old Rx bottle that was broken and stuffed with gauze. Called several people at VA, finally talked to "Tammy" in the Pharmacy, she told me there was nothing to worry about they were the new Rx just with old markings. Then told me if I had any other questions I should call her directly.
I was under the belief that a drug is marked "once" Thus allowing drug enforcement officials to be able to identify them in the field. Has anyone else encountered something like this? VA Pharmacy in question is in Marion, IN. Strange when I called one of the Indianapolis numbers they told me it sounded suspicious, then referred me back to Marion VA pharmacy.
My only worry now is in incurring the wrath of VA officials!!!

I had the same problem and was given a Watson 853 that did not work as well as 1/2 of a Mallinckrodt M357. I often take my meds 1/2 at a time but the Watson whole pill did not work as well ad I/2 a M357.
My NP told me to ask the pharmacist if they have the M357 and if not take my written prescription to another pharmacy and I have 3 within 2 blocks.
I tried to call an 800 number the pharmacist gave me for Watson Pharmaceuticals and it was an incorrect number.
I took an empty bottle with me when picking up my Rx and asked to check the pills for the proper M357 before paying for them.
The Watson pills gave me nausea and then stomach cramping when I had no M357 anywhere in my house (I keep a pill or two in my purse, in my dog's bag which goes to the Vet with me etc.
I am going to be extremely careful and request what works but I would like to report a huge difference in 2 generics that are supposed to be within 3% of the original brand name.

On Jan 13, 2015, my usual Mallinckrodt M357 prescription was filled with Watson 853 pills and because I try to take my pain meds as I need them, I had a number of Mallinckrodt M357 as back up before opening the Watson 853 pills.
I noticed I was in more pain and finding some halved Mallickrodt M357 in my purse, and a couple of my waterproof pill containers for when away from home, I definitely noticed I was not getting the same results from the Watson pills. When I had no other meds but Watsons, I had to take whole pills and/or supplement with 1/2 a 325 mg acetominaphen or 325 mg aspirin at least once a day.
Then I noticed I was nauseated often and even when I eliminated the aspirin, I was still nauseated even when I made sure to take the Watson brand with a full glass of water and food.
I googled my problem and found a few other reports of the same problem.
Luckily I went to my Dr on Feb 18th and talked to my NP who said take it to your pharmacy and ask if they have Mallincrodt M357 and if they say No go across the street and do the same and in my case within a block is a Kroger with a pharmacy.
When I picked up my pills, I had an empty bottle with me and I said I want to make sure these are all M357 before I pay for them. They were.
I looked for places to report a bad drug and they were not for individuals. My pharmacist gave me a phone number which was for Life Protect Alert not for Watson Pharmaceuticals.

I just got my Vicodin refilled by VA, I am supposed to be getting 325/10, I have been taking yellow pills "V3601" for a while. When the new ones arrived they are exactly like the old 500/5. Called pharmacy they said they only look like the old ones now banned. Isn't it illegal to redistribute the new medication with the old markings of "M357"?

I just got my prescription filled at Wal-mart and my pills are M357-hydrocodone 5mg/acetaminophen 500. They are NOT Watson and I think they work better than other 5mg hydro's I've taken b4. I am taking it now for Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction. Hope it helps...

Robert, have you tried asking your pharmacy to order the others in for you?

They should be able to do so, but you'll likely have to pay any difference between the price of their cheapest generic and it.

Learn more Vicodin details here.

And Ella what is it that you need to quit? I can make better suggestions if I have more precise details.
