Fibrovas Side Effects

My total cholesterol was 265 mg with LDL at 170 mg. I was prescribed fibrovas about 4 years back and still continuing it taking it on alternate days. Now my cholesterol is 171 mg with LDL at 115 mg. But my concern is its side effects taking it for long term. My age is 54 years. Will I have to take for rest of my life.

Fibrovase contains the active ingredients Atorvastain and Fenofibrate, it is most commonly used to help lower cholesterol.

All medications carry certain risks with long-term use and with the Statin class, they usually start after they have been used for 1 to 2 years.

These effects may include:

Loss of bone density, painful nighttime leg cramps that may interfere with sleep and decreased liver function, which can also lead to reduce alcohol tolerance, since it is no longer processed out as fast.

As to whether or not you'll have to take it for the rest of your life, that is really something you will need to discuss with your doctor. The benefits and risks are something that you clearly have to weigh and evaluate. Some people do manage to bring their cholesterol down with medications and then keep it under control with diet and exercise, so they do not have to continue the medications.
