Drinking On Lexapro (Page 2) (Top voted first)

I was just wondering if anyone has drank with this med and were there any side effects? I've been on lexapro 10 mg for a month and am feeling great but I am petrified to even attempt to drink alcohol, but would like to try. So if anyone could help that would be great.

I am a social drinker and have been for several years and have always handled my alcohol just fine. I have been on Lexapro now for about 6 months. I have noticed a significant change in how alcohol is effecting me. I can drink what I have been accustomed to drinking and all of a sudden I am very drunk and have no memory the next day of the prior night. This has been a very scary experience. It has happened to me a few times until I could figure out what I was doing differently, which was taking Lexapro. Not a good combination for me.

Lexapro takes several weeks to become adjusted to. I had a hard time sleeping, heart racing, etc. but now have none of those side effects. I feel great, and drink wine regularly. Drugs effect people differently - and Lexapro may not be the right antidepressant for everyone - but it's changed my life.

I was yawning all the time the first few days taking them. I was on lexapro for 2 years and got off of it 8 months ago. This medication definitely helped me with my anxiety. Give it a week or so and the yawning should stop. :)

It's obvious you care about your wife. Let her know how much you love her and show her that you will support her. I've been on Lexapro for 3 years. I have a stressful job as well. We sometime lash out at the ones closes to us. I pray your marriage will be restored.

I was put on this medication because I was honest with my doctor and requested a medication that I could drink with and not have major health issues. He said it was fine and little to no health hazards if I drank lightly. I recently turned 21 and enjoy drinking but 3 months later I have a beer maybe two and don't feel the need to party like I used to.

I agree I drink wine 2 half glasses of wine every night! I have zero side effects! I don't intend to stop as its my only vice! I'm 68 female

It's definitely not a page where people have an excuse to think it's okay to drink because someone else does, it's a way to compare and to understand the different effects it has given us by having a drink in moderation. I came here to understand that what happened to me, did happen to someone else and it was because of the medication.

I drink almost everyday. not heavy, but a drink or 2 a night. I was on Prozac for a year and I've been switched to this for about 3 weeks now. when I drank on Prozac I didn't notice a difference and was never hungover. on this I notice after 1 drink I feel like I've had two. and have been hungover a few times. just stick to a small drink and you should be okay.

Hi. I am suffering generalised anxiety and have become an alcoholic. Due to anxiety I am soooooo scared to take lexapro. ........... so scared of any affects. In my situation, I dont want to drink but scared I will. Just out of detox and dealing with a new Psych I have only met once. I would love your advice.

I'm getting ready to start taking 10mg lexapro tonight. I'm very nervous. I don't like taking Advil for a headache... I read a lot of the posts to this blog and hope it will help me should I experience some side effects mentioned. I really hope thus medication works not only for me but my family.

I wouldnt worry about it... Its more in ur head than anything... I drink like a fish and even tho i have only been taking a few days its more of a tolerance and mind set

Been on 10mg Lexapro about 8 months.
I used to love going out drinking and partying.
Since I have been taking it, When I drink, its good that night, good buzz.
Except the feelings the next day not worth it!
I Feel so so low from the alcohol mixed with meds,
I miss socially drinking, maybe its a good thing though since have college work.

Pico, You will probably experience dizziness, yawning and insomnia. This will subside in a few weeks. You should feel great after that. I nearly stopped taking it due to the side effects but I'm glad I didn't.

Have a drink----or 2, be mindful if you do have side effects---I did not and am happy to report that on 15mg of Lexapro for 12 weeks and I feel great!!!

Drinking alcohol does not "undo" the medication. i already asked my doctor along with others about this because i drink once in awhile and i am prescribed Lexapro, the only thing is that it MAY increase your side effects IF you drink too much and that you shouldn't drink until you find out how Lexapro affects you feel. If you don't have side effect then you're fine to drink but again don't drink too excessively.

The few side effects i have are slight nausea and yawning a lot..i've only been it it for 2 days so hopefully it goes away soon or else i'm getting off while i still can. i already have bad anxiety so any bad news about this antidepressant will definitely make me stop taking it.

my psychiatrist had just increased my dose to 15mg when i decided to take two shots of tequila and some other things mixed with vodka. that was the first time i actually drank, and the only thing "out of normal" i noticed was that i became really impulsive. i'm an adhder too so i think alcohol and lexapro just increased my hyperactive side... besides that, no hangover, no headaches, no nausea (my appetite increased, actually).

i totally agree. i have found no difference, or that it increases the effects of alcohol in any way. But if drinking too much may feel depressed the next day.

I am a social drinker. And I have taken this medicine for a few months now. My doctor said it was ok to drink occasionally but not excessively. Unfortunately when I did drink in the past with the med, my suicidal thoughts would become very strong. So for the sake of myself I've made the choice to stop social drinking. I know now that drinking on anti depressant is not a smart gamble. Having a fun buzz with friends Wisn't worth it. If it's a big issue to drink in social settings, drink with soda. No one will notice that u didn't include alcohol. I hope all of these responses help you. Be careful!

I have been taking lexapro for a year. I have drank while taking the med. nothing happen until I drank close to a bottle. I COMLETELY BLACKED OUT.. Which meant I could not remember anything I did while awake for about 4hours or more. It was like sleep walking and doing activities but not remembering none of it. My friends told me everything that happened and I didnot recall none of it. I was totally devistated.
