Double Dosage

Can I double up on my first dose of Bactrim to jump start the attack on my infection?

I would be very careful about doubling up on the first dose, due to the fact of possible allergic reaction to the medication, which is significant'y higher with sulfur based drugs.

Though this is an old post, I would like to add that doubling up is not a good idea, for more reasons than just the worry of an allergic reaction.

When you take a certain medication, your body can only absorb and use a certain amount of it and the rest is just expelled as waste, or if you take too much, then you get the symptoms of overdose!

Thank you very much for this information I am another person not the original person who asked the question... But I was just recently given Bactrim for cystitis and my concern was that it's once every 12 hours and I worried that my infection might have needed a double dose at first even though the doctor did not prescribe. I'm nervous about cystitis because 15 years ago I did get a kidney infection as a result of cystitis not treated soon enough . I didn't double it up today because it wasn't prescribed that way and I did worry just about what you said which is allergic reaction... But I still wondered whether or not it wouldn't be helpful for the double dose... So thank you for your second reply about double dosing and not absorbing all of the Bactrim and reiterating the fact that it's dangerous if it were an allergic reaction.... thank you again for your information!
