Does Androgel Penetrate Through A Glove?

I have been applying my husband's Androgel to his shoulders. He has a cast on one arm and is unable to do it himself right now. I wear a disposable glove each time. I have noticed a cooling, menthol-like feeling through the glove, which I assume is from the alcohol in it. I also noticed the inside of the glove seems wet when I take it off. Does the hormone penetrate the glove by the way of the alcohol in it?

I would suggest checking with your pharmacist to get a definitive answer on this. The alcohol wouldn't do it, but there are some substances that can penetrate or destroy latex, which is why there are many warnings about what not to use with latex condoms.

Thus, if the inside is wet, then yes, there is a chance that it is penetrating, which could cause problems for you. The problems are generally most significant if you are planning to have children, but other complications may still occur even if you aren't.

The pharmacist may also be able to recommend a better way to apply it, or a different type of glove you can use that would be safer.

I think testosterone has a width of around 6nm. Reading some studies on latex gloves, they weren't sure if prions (3-5nm) could go through latex or not. We know that the AIDS virus (100nm) cannot fix through latex. If you're paranoid about it, you could always wear two pairs. (Especially if that would make you feel safer.)
