I went to court, and took a drug screen and I was tested positive for cocaine. The day before my doctor gave me a shot that had lidocaine in it.

I know lidocaine can produce a false positive in a powdered sample thought to be cocaine as it is similar in chemical structure. I know because it happened to me. Having a similar chemical structure to cocaine if it got broken down in the body for elimination, wouldn't some of those metabolites be similar to each other causing a positive reading? Do you know exactly which metabolite it is it looks for to make the result a positive and whether this metabolite is produced in the body after taking in lidocaine? I know from my own experience and research into the topic the manufacturers of these drug testing kits will play down the effects of false positives, even lie about their occurrence all to sell their product which which is morally wrong and ruining the lives of countless innocent people.

During my lip filler appointment, the doctor put this cream (very thickly spread) inside my lips and outside on my lips and mouth. It was nasty tasting....I read that the combination of numbing agents has cocaine in it and I joked that I may test positive should I be tested and my plastic surgeon says that I would test positive as I’m ingesting it....I’m not expecting a test anytime soon but plastic surgeons use the same numbing for lip filler as they do for nose jobs and that’s straight from my Dr's mouth.

Any benzodiapen will test positive for that. Could be a certain sleeping pill, anti antianxiety, etc.

A lot of over the counter meds can cause many different false positives for different substances. Delysm, Robitussin, that contain DXM can cause a false positive for PCP and LSD. Tylenol can spark false positives. ZOLOFT of all things can cause a false Benzodiapine positive. I was accused many times of taking benzos when they're not prescribed to me, it took my genius doctor to realize the Zoloft was doing it. Unless they run a thorough test and not just a quick piss in a cup test, false positives can happen. Just because they can cause false positives does NOT mean they certainly will. Just ask for a hair follicle test which goes back 6 months.

If in fact you did have a dentist appt go get the dentist report make sure they list of medication. Very important to do that if you are dealing with DCF you are guilty. Once proven, it is a process still to get your child back. Good Luck!!!

That is a blatant lie, I personally had to take a drug test today and it showed positive for cocaine. I also just had a procedure at the hospital this morning where lidocaine was used to numb the area where the dr. had to cut me. I also use lidocaine on my back and knee on a daily basis. I do not use cocaine so I know for a certain that lidocaine does cause false positive results in a drug screen. Most people are taking the screen for work or probation etc. I on the other hand had to take one to get custody of my grandson who was taken by cps falsely because my daughter had a seizure and blacked out with him home. This whole situation has been a nightmare. One fup to the next but as a society we rely so heavily upon imperfect systems and people. There is always room for error due to the fact that Adam dropped us all!!!!

It just happened to me. I use a lot of topical ointment that had lidocaine and dental meds & I tested positive for cocaine. My pain clinic has let me go because of it. I'm 60 yrs old and take apap/hydrocodone 325-10.

You're FULL OF S***!!! There are certainly many different ways for Lidocaine and the same benzene ring to cause a positive test for this broad acting benzene ring out the outer edge of a molecule to get magnetic and say, YEP GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY, lets string him up... hang him HIGH!

You could not have a positive urine test for amphetamines with Lidocaine. It has no amphetamine in it... On the other hand testing positive for cocaine is more of a possibility.

I recently had a test come up positive at the emergency room for amphetamines, when all I had taken was viscous lidocaine. Things such as lidocaine, benzocaine and bupivocaine can cause a positive result for amphetamines, but the only thing that causes a positive cocaine result is actually cocaine.

Hair strand tests are also producing false positives. Not only was I prescribed a numbing cream but due to toothache was taking a high strength benzocaine, and local anesthetic. Let me tell each of you this: their should be a government warning about how it could test positive for cocaine. These mixed with any form of high strength meds can not be good. As for the i**** of 20 years, don't be so bloody arrogant. Science is science and you cannot mix anything with everything. People on here are telling you that they do not use cocaine and your basically calling us all liars you arrogant sod. How dare you, with your OUTDATED VIEWS and opinions. I don't take cocaine, so obviously this is the reason why.

You need more schooling and lots more education there is 160 items that a person can use on daily basis that will show false positives ie: eat a poppy seed bagel 1 time daily then take urine test eat certain types of ice cream you are not very educated for being tech that is prob labs hiring tecks to run faulty tests labs continuing to investigate and violiate people on faulty tests these tests are so faulty most people have very easily law suit if u can find laywer because if u have tested positive and certain no drug use have hair follicle test done at own expense then Sue their ass off only way to stop these faulty tests!!!

This is quite sometime after this original post but I must refute these claims by Lab Tech. First and foremost, I have never done any type of illicit drug. I have not so much as drank a beer in my life. I am a family medicine doctor working in the oil industry in Alaska. On Jan 5 2017 I had a Lap Band removed after 10yrs. I flew to Tijuana Mexico on Jan 4 and returned on Jan 6 without incidence. On Jan 13 2017 I went in for my Hair Follicle drug test. Today Jan 19 2017 I was told I tested positive for Cocaine. Once again I have never done any illicit drugs nor am I on any Rx Drugs now or in the past. I am a vegan and eat a lot of herbs such as tumeric, ginger, moringa, cinnamon, hemp seed, flax seed. But I also had a Hair Follicle test done July 13 2016 and was ingesting the same herbs. So I just wanted to let people know that it is possible and you should fight if you know like I do that it couldnt be correct.
