I will be starting Xolair after I am discharged from the hospital (kidney cancer). I would like to know what to expect. Thanks for your comments in advance. Bruce ## Xolair contains the active ingredient Omalizumab and it is not currently approved in the U.S. as a cancer treatment, it is used to treat asthma. Are you certain that is the right name of the medication you are asking about? Preliminary research has actually shown that while this does play a role in the immune systems recognition of cancer cells, it may increase risks of developing cancer. You can read more on it here: ## I have sever asthma and I have been on this drug since 2003 when it first came out. Before this, I was in the ER all the time and now being on this drug I can't say enough it keeps me out of ER and asth...

I have been on xolair for over a year now. After the first 3 months of treatment, I lost a lot of hair during the next few months. Much more than the normal nightly loss but doctor denied that xolair had anything to do with it. I know better. Hair loss stabilized around the 6 to 7 month period. I'm very lucky to have had a lot of hair to begin with or I could have been bald by now. ## Hello, Mark! How are you? Hair loss has been noted by the FDA as being reported in post-approval use. Since it's not listed among the typical side effects that were compiled pre-approval, then your doctor may not be aware of it. Other side effects are listed as possibly including dizziness, ear pain, joint/muscle pain and dry mouth. I'm glad it stabilized for you. Are you back to your normal lo...

They are $6000 PM please help! ## Call this number for the manufacturer's Co-pay Card Program- 855-965-2472. I have had some leg swelling - on the left and severe muscle cramps - has anyone else experienced this on xolair? ## Hello, Lee! How are you feeling? The muscle cramps and pain are known side effects, but I didn't find anything listed about the edema. Have you consulted your physician? Do you take any other medications? Do you have any other medical conditions?

My daughter Catherine (age 17), had an extreme case of Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria (lasted over a year). We saw specialist at Nemours Children's hospital (Orlando, FL) and they recommend Xolair inj's. as a course of treatment. She has had 6 months of infusions. Although her hives are under control with the help of this medication, the side effects are a bit alarming. Each time she has the shots done, she becomes very confused, dizzy and lethargic. She has trouble remembering things and seems as though she's intoxicated (stumbling around). To the point where she is vomiting and unable to function normally. She has to stop life and just keep her eyes closed and rest. This lasts for 4 to 5 days. After the side effects wear off, she has told me she has shocks in her head (Brain...

Has anyone had surgery while on Xolair im giong for hip replacement & can find no posts on this Someone said maybe i should stop before surgery Xolair progam can not answer this question Has anyone had any surgery done while on Xolair ## @pudzzy, If you're truly concerned about taking this medication during a surgery, I would highly recommend discussing this with your surgeon prior to the operation. Reason being is that different surgeons have different pre and post operative instructions, where as some don't even allow you to take a multivitamin supplement, let alone a prescription medication. They each have their safety reasons I'm sure, but it's probably wise to make others aware of the medications you're taking, especially when it's going to be before a m...

I started Xolair when I was 16 and I have now been on the drug for 5 years. Before Xolair my asthma and allergies were uncontrollable. I had been on steroids full time since I was 7, and as a result of this I was combatting multiple steroid side effects such as thinning bones, stunted development, weight issues and many more. Even on full time steroids my asthma was uncontrollable. I spent my childhood in and out of hospitals and only managed to attend school part time. My illness effected every part of my life. My parents and my pediatrician had been pushing for me to start Xolair and at 16 I was finally able to get onto a trail of the drug. I can honestly say it has 100% changed my life. It worked like a miracle. I was able to come off steroids for the first time in 9 years. I stopped...

I am on my 4th Xolair shot and I am just starting to piece togther its the cause of my dizziness. Has anyone else had dizziness as a side effect? It comes and goes. I am trying to monitor and will be calling my doctor on Monday to let him know what is going on. ## That can be a normal side effect of this medication, you may also experience nausea, headache, drowsiness, weakness, according to the FDA. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have had problems with my platelets. They dropped to 19,000 should be 140,000 or more. My immune system is not recognizing them and they are being destroyed. It was great for my asthma, but not for my immune system. Should there be blood tests done regularly while on this drug? It is rare but it an happen known as thrombocytopenia purpura. ## Hello, Terry! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you had. As to the blood work, it's usually not done, when a possible issue is so rare. Otherwise, a lot of money would be spent to check millions of people for an issue that almost never happens. The typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, cough, difficulty swallowing fever and headache. Have they given you any treatment options? ## No just take my in...

Can anyone tell me if weight loss is a side effect of xolair, and if so why does it cause weight loss. Has anyone experience it firsthand. I would greatly appreciate the imput of this subject. ## Hello, Lulu! How are you? No, that isn't listed among the detailed side effects provided by the FDA. They typically include congestion, fever, headache, hoarseness and itching. How much have you lost? Are you on any other medications?

Hi everybody, I've been on Xolair for 7 months for an uncontrollable asthma. Last month I passed two kidney stones. Lab work shows calcium within normal range but my PTH levels keep going up weekly. I'm suspicious that Xolair might have caused this since it's an immune system related condition. I'm still under treatment and very concerned that there might be a relation. Has anybody experienced parathyroid issues with Xolair? I appreciate your input. ## Hello, Maly! How are you? No, I didn't find anything about it doing so in the detailed side effects provided by the FDA, though it's never possible to say how any medication may affect anyone that uses it. The typical side effects are listed as possibly including pain at administration site, swelling, runny nose or...

We were in an area of high mold content--Xolair does not help mold allergies. Started having asthma, and began prednisone. 6 days after starting prednisone I had my Xolair injection (Doc said it would be fine). 2 days following Xolair injection my asthma got much worse despite increasing prednisone to 40mg. Has anyone had a similar experience, i.e. Xolar injection, then onset of severe asthma. ## Hello, Rk! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're having. You actually need to be on the Xolair for awhile, before it will start working to reduce your asthma symptoms. Having an allergy attack that close to it being administered didn't even give it a chance to start working to prevent it. It doesn't work like antihistamines and rescue inhalers do. Do you have a r...

But i can run a 10 k now without any issues. but I am lossing so much hair has anyone hair grown back. ## It likely will continue as long as you're on it. I am starting Xolair in two days time, any tips on what to expect? ## Xolair contains the active ingredient Omalizumab, it's a humanized antibody used to treat certain types of asthma. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and injection site irritation. Read more: Does anyone else have anything to add? ## Please do not take it. I have had a lot of hair loss. The back of my head is bald. Just like a person who has had treatments for cancer. I was never told that I would have this much hair. How many of you people who have had this injection have had a lot of hair loss? Not much of my hair has come back in and it has been almost two years.
