Can I take ilvitrim if I slept with a hiv positive person so as I can not be infected ## Ilvitrim contains the active ingredients Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim. It is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections. Although the therapeutic regimen of patients with HIV infection, frequently includes trimethoprim + sulfamethoxazole", it is my understanding that the risk of serious side effects vs the potential benefits of the drug, can make it a difficult option for short and/or long term use. Furthermore, I do wonder what benefits, if any, they might be receiving from an antibiotic, since antibiotics in and of themselves cannot be used to prevent or cure viral infections such as HIV.
