What is the difference between Buspirone 10 MG and Buspar 10 MG and what is Buspirone? ## Buspar is just the name brand for Buspirone. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I had ben taking Mylan BusPIRone 15 mg. oblong pill (B3). My Dr. increased my dosage to 20 mg, which came as Mylan 10mg's, oval pill (B2) .I tolerated the 15 mg oblong pill fine, but became very sick to my stomach when I took the 10mg. Same manufacturer only difference is the shape of the pill. I contact Mylan and they said it is the exact same binder used in both sizes...I know I am already nuts, but is this possible? ## My doctor gave...

My prescription of Buspirone HCL 15 mg tablets, says to take 1 tablet 3 times a day. Does that mean take 45 mg (the whole bar) a day or 5 mg (15 mg a day)? ## Hi Chase, From my own interpretation of your prescription, I'm led to assume that it means you would be taking three 15mg tablets a day (totaling 45mg after your last dose). That translates to dosing every 8 hours within a 24hr period. If the instructions still don't make sense, I'd encourage you to contact your prescribing doctor and/or the local pharmacy who dispensed this medication just to be on the safe side. I hope this helps!

Do the pills have the same purpose or side effects? Do they look alike? They're both white & break into parts. ## They can both be used to treat anxiety, but they are not in the same class of medications. Buspirone is classified by the FDA as an anxiolytic, but Xanax is a Benzodiazepine that is used to treat panic disorders, anxiety, and some forms of insomnia, it also carries the risk of being habit forming, though Buspirone does not. Other side effects may be similar and include nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, and drowsiness. Are there any markings on the tablets in question? What shape are they?

Was taking buspirone 5mg for anxiety and it helped but once Ihad my prescription refilled to buspirone 15mg (rectangle split in 5s) it has had a bad effect and isnt helping at all but making me worse. I take the same amount of five at a time but its somehow effecting me different. Is it possible to have adifferent reaction to the same medication just because of the change in mg? ## Hi sam, From my own experience as well as the feedback of numerous other patients, I do believe that changing tablets, manufacturers, etc, can bring about a different reaction - even if you're taking the same medication and dosage. My stance on the matter is based on the seemingly ever-changing list of inactive ingredients (also referred to as binders/fillers) that each pill is composed of. What I've ...

I have some Buspirone that expired in 2008. Is it still ok to take this if I'm having some anxiety? ## Hello, Calvin! This medication is not listed by the FDA as becoming dangerous, once expired, but it does start to lose effectiveness, so in my opinion it would actually be best to dispose of it and see your doctor for a new prescription. However, according to the following article (listed below) from NIH, “the expiration date doesn't really indicate a point at which the medication is no longer effective or has become unsafe to use”, and is more of an arbitrary date based on the whit and whim of the pharmaceutical companies’ product “guarantee” that the labeled potency will last “at least” until that date. The article also goes on to not...

How long after I start taking buspirone will I start to notice if I have side effects from the medicine? How long will it take after I stop taking the medicine for my side effects to go away? Will it interact with clozaril? Thanks. ## Hello, John! How are you? There's no definitive time frame for when side effects may start, if you experience any, it depends on the person and the dosage. Some people may experience some soon after taking their first dose, but some people never experience any of them. Generally, there is a peak about 4 to 6 weeks in, after that, your body starts to adjust to the medication and the side effects typically taper off, until going away entirely. The FDA lists the typical side effects for this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, weight chang...

If you have heart palpitations and your doctor give you Buspirone to help with your panic attacks, will it help with your heart palpitations? Or will it cause more heart palpitations? ## According to FDA reports, it has actually been known to cause palpitations as a side effect. Thus, in your case, I think it really depends on what's causing your palpitations, if you experience them due to panic attacks, the medication might help, if it works for you to get them under control. But there is also a chance that it may not stop them from occurring. However, most side effects are transient and tend to go away, once your body gets used to a medication, which could take 4 to 6 weeks. Are you on any other medications? Is there some other reason for your palpitations, or just the panic attac...

I wanna know if I took these buspirone 15mg if it would feel the same as xanax? I have really bad anxiety and came across these? ## Hello, Nick! How are you? No, it does not work, nor affect you the same as Xanax. Buspirone must be taken for several weeks to a month, in order for it to reach its full level of efficacy in your body, to see if it will help you, or not. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and irritability. Alternatively, Xanax, can be taken, as needed, and will have some immediate effect to relieve anxiety. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No, this pill is not in the benzo family. It's more like Prozac, Zoloft or something like that. It's not narcotic if that's what your needing. Might ma...
