Wean Off Of Dilaudid

I have been taking 8 mgs. of Dilaudid 4 times a day for the last 6 months for a chronic illness. 3 months ago I had surgery to give some relief to my illness, and I have since found some stabilization to my symptoms. As such, my doctors want to wean me off of the Dilaudid. I am very nervous about the idea because I have noticed in the mornings (after not having the Dilaudid for 12 hours), I feel a bit anxious and I have joint and muscle aches and pains. Therefore, the first thing I do is take my Dilaudid. Currently to wean me off my doctor is suggesting that I taper back one pill a day (around lunchtime) each week so that I go from taking 8 4mg. tablets a day to taking one 4 mg. tablet a day. This process should take about one month to complete, and it truly frightens me. Do you have an...

how long does it take to be weaned off a medtronic pain pump with the med. dilaudid the pain management wants my daughter to come off it in one month is that to fast and will there be alot of side effects and withdrawal please help i'm really scared for her and they are suppose to start reducing tomorrow ## Dialudid is a potent narcotic containing the active ingredient Hydromorphone. It really depends on how high of a dosage she has been on and for how long. It should be done on a very slow taper, slowly decreasing her dosage every 5 to 7 days, until she eventually isn't using any. She will, more than likely, still experience some withdrawal effects when she finally does stop altogether, however, they should not be severe nor dangerous. Just somewhat miserable. Did they say why ...

I was hit by a car 5 weeks ago and have lots of pelvis breaks and breaks in my sacrum, spine, and hip. While in the hospital I was given morphine iv then dilaudid iv. Then I was switched to a pill form of dilaudid. 2mg every 2 hours. Then every four hours. Now it's every four as needed. I started taking more than prescribed so they would work cause my body built up a tolerance. I need to stop but I'll wake up at night with restless leg syndrome and can only fall back asleep if I take one. How do I wean myself off? I have 10 left to last me till my next appointment 6 days from now. Then my doctor will give me a small refill of that or a less intense narcotic. ## Hello, Vee! How are you? I'm sorry about your injuries, that's horrible! The best way to stop taking it is via ...

WHAT IS NORMAL DOSAGE A MONTH TO GET OFF DILAUDID IF TAKING 12MG EVERY THREE HOURS FOR LAST SIX MONTHS IF I DONT TAKE FOR 5 HOURS I AM IN PAIN AND SICK VERY SCARY ## Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone, it is a narcotic pain reliever and may cause side effects such as: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation. As to a time period, there is really no set rule for this, it can vary from person to person. Some doctors do not wean a person off, some do. What has your doctor suggested? Whenever someone stops taking narcotics, it should be done in a very slow taper, to prevent the worst of the withdrawal effects and rebound pain symptoms. ## is it usual to stop dilaudid 5 times a day after several years and start endocet every 6 hours with zonegran at night. Hello everyone, Currently i am prescribed 16mg orally of dilaudid every 3-4 hours. I have just begun my 1st day of weaning myself off by cutting down to 14 mg for this next whole week, with the help of valium. I will continue to cut down like this until the last dose. Now i understand that this is an extremely high dose but im focusing on getting off of it and not worrying about how i got on it. The reason it got so high was because i have this chronic severe chest pain that after 4 1/2 months they have been unable to find a reason for the pain. Last week in the hospital i was in so much pain and and didnt know why until i found out that some idiot dr. cut my dilaudid dose in half, so i was screaming and pain and going through severe withdrawl. I know i have a long tough road ahead of m...

Hi, I started using a 12 mcg fentanyl patch about a month and a half ago for chronic pain. I never abused them and I always changed them every 72 hours like I was prescribed to. Well I decided that it was time to get off the patch and tried one day to take it off and a few hours later I started to experience "the flu times ten" I was told by my doctor that my body had formed a dependency to the drug and if I was ready to get off then he wants to wean me off. Well he prescribed me to dilaudid 4mg and he said as soon as I take the patch off to take half off my first dilaudid. The first day I take a half every 6 hours.. the next 2 days I take a half every 8 hours.. then the next 2 days after that its a half every 12 hours.. then the next 2 days after that its a half daily. I'm ...

I want the pump taken out and to be put back on oral meds... Can they fill me with saline and wean me down orally? I don't want the pump filled again. I'm scared of leaks. Something has been going on and I want it out. They say they have to fill it again and wean me off. ## You have to be weaned off slowly from the pump which takes several months to do. If you are having pain you should remain on it then have the medication adjusted accordingly. Fear of having complications is not a valid concern for removing your pain pump. With the recent television reports of opioid abuse your doctor will NOT follow your request to be put on oral pain meds.. You may be seen as an abuser looking for oral pain medication ## My mom has had a morphine pain pump for over 3yrs. Just a couple weeks ...

I am 19 weeks pregnant. I have been taking 2mg Dilaudid every four hours daily, which would be a total of 12mg in a 24hr period. I have been taking it since 13 weeks pregnant, so a little over 6 weeks. I have been taking it every single day for chronic kidney pain. My doctor decided to transfer my care to a pain management clinic, and my appointment is not until Tuesday, it is currently Saturday. My OB refuses to write me a script to get to through until my appointment, and even though I have been taking them only as directed, they want be to come in and be converted to Methadone. NOT HAPPENING. I will suffer through all the pain in the world before having a child born to Methadone. My OB has refused to wean me down on the medication, so I am currently off it cold turkey. My last dose w...

i have a prescription for dilaudid (generic) 8 mg for a stage 4 cancer victim. i have called about 25 drug stores & nobody has it in stock! it's friday evening & i don't know what else to do. this poor guy is going to suffer all weekend until i can find his dilaudid. can anyone advise me on what to do? HELP!! ## i was taking 6-8 mg dalaudids a day or 180 a month for the past three years and have finally weaned my self completely off those pills which was the hardest thing i have ever done. the 24 hour walgreens and cvs in conroe, tx. carries them. ## Kakin, the primary problem here is that you are calling the pharmacies. When you call, they have no way of knowing if you are actually a customer looking for a medication that you need filled or if you are someone who is goi...

I ,due to a severe injury, was on methadone for 8 yrs and got off that crap and on suboxone at the advice of a friend. I now am at 2 mgs of suboxone daily. My pain issues are mild to none and I want off subs .I went to my doctor who claims he has Much experience with this and has proven that to me...but his method is scaring me and from what I read online I am very hesitant. He prescribed me 2mg dilaudid and valium which I hate and plans to wean me off the subs. Is this right??? I can handle a mild w/d but not a heavy one due to my work. I am not looking for people tellin me to suck it up or give advice other than if the detox method described is reasonable or crazy?? Everytime I try to go below 2mg of subs I feel like hell will a dilaudid taper make it easier or start a new addiction an...

Hi, I'm on the 50mcg patch and my Dr. also has me on Norco 10. I want to get off the patch so bad, but I'm fighting a staph infection for the second time in three months. Back in May I had injections in my lumbar, and four days later I was in the hospital with 104 degree fever. I ended up having emergency back surgery to clean out the infection. By the time I went to surgery two days later (because my Dr.'s at the time are idiots) I was septic w/ 105 degree fever. Needless to say, I nearly died. When I finally got out of the hospital the second time, ( with NEW Dr.'s, my Pain Management doc put me on Fentanyl 50, and Dilaudid 2mg 3x a day, I couldn't function. So I asked my Dr to change my meds, she only changed the Dilaudid to Norco 10, one every 4 to six hours. Now...

I have been on dilaudid 8 milligram for a year nowI take 7 pills a day 196 pills a month my doctor cut me off cold turkey & had me wean myself off with a two week supply I had left can you tellme what is the appropriate way to be weaned off of Dalodid 8mg seven times a day to be ok. Thank you. ## Hello, Jim! How are you? I am very sorry about what happened to you. However, if you're asking if what your doctor did was appropriate, then yes. There is nothing that says they have to wean you off, at all and no specific requirements for doing so. As a matter of fact, as long as you're not in immediate life threatening danger, no doctor is obligated to treat you, at all. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as n...

How many different green liquid medications are there? My mom is prescribed liquid medicine and I need to know the name of it. It's green and highly addictive. ## My dad is on hospice. His morphine is blue. His morphine pills are blue. I hate giving it to him, but I hate him suffering more. I usually make sure he's on his oxygen really well before administering the meds. He usually screams out or he asks for it. I know he's hurting because in his lifetime he's only taken Tylox for maybe four days after surgery. The only other pain killer has been a Tylenol for headache. He hated medicine. I've had pain so severe until I've been on dilaudid and Actiq the pain lollipops. My doctor had to wean me off. That was a result of six back to back surgeries. I think I will a...

please help i am starting to get sick my regular dr cut me off and about 2 see a temporary dr untill i can see the one who is gonna wean me down ## "If you Inject 20 to 80 4mg Dilaudid's a day", it's not safe period - in my honest opinion. I would strongly recommend gradually tapering down, even if it takes as long as 6 months to a year or more. Some of these medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of several weeks until the body is no longer dependent upon them. At the very least I would suggest making a tapering schedule on your calender, to help keep track of your progress points and where your goals are at. I think it would also help if you connect with or stay cl...

I am writing this ONLY to give insight on what I have gone threw. For the last few weeks I have read about everything I can online. I was addicted to oxycodone for 3 years making monthly trios to Florida to get my scripts which would be roughly 300 30mg oxycodone and 90 2mg Xanax. Well, I knew that had to stop after 3 unsuccessful attempts at rehab I finally stuck with it and was placed on suboxone 8mg sublingual films. I weaned myself down to 2mg then 1mg (weaning from 2mg to 1mg was hell for me) I couldn't sleep, eat, I was so irritable I couldn't stand myself. So I decided weaning down wasn't for me at this point im jumping off and I did. I did it for a week and although after about 5 days I was a tad better it was horrible on day 8 I ended up with kidneystones, hydro nep...

I have been dependent on dilaudid for about a year and a half, and currently my doctor is trying to wean me off the 8mg pills by taking one off a week. I am now on 3/day. Next week I go to 2/day, but I cannot sleep and find it very very hard to get off this drug. ## My experience may sound a bit unorthodox and downright idiotic. I knew several people who where able to kick opioids. You should know there is no way to safely and happily stop. It is called precipitated withdraw with amphetamines. Basically you do not wean off of the opioid; you take a full antagonist. Sit in the bathtub for 2-3 days then start a small dose of desoxyn. Your pain will stay with you for a while; the amphetamine will help keep you from ruminating and stabilize your sleep. Also you could try wellbutrin. The tra...
