The prescription packaging on my 50,000 units per pill of Vita D, says not to crush or chew before swallowing. "Swallow whole". Why can't these by chewed? My pharmacist didn't know why. Can't swallow pills. ## Does it happen to have anything else on the label, such as ER, XR, SR or anything like that? Some of these are controlled release, so it isn't all released into your body at once and crushing them defeats that and could result in you getting too much of it, at once. Some prescription Potassium tablets come the same way and cannot be crushed, cut or chewed. Other times it is done to prevent the irritation that can occur to the esophagus or stomach from certain medications and supplement. They are specially coated to help prevent this from happening and by cr...

after taking 50,000 units twice.. I started to get slight pain across the chest... I stopped it.. anyone else ? ## Have you consulted your doctor? Did you have a deficiency in it? That is quite a high amount to be taking and too much of it, even though it is a vital nutrient can be just as dangerous as not enough. I did test as having a deficiency in it, but my doctor on has me taking 2,000IUs, daily, to rectify the problem. ## i am taking vit d2 1.25mg 50,000 unit a day for 14 days is this safe to take

I am taking this vit. @50,000 units per week. Why would my Dr, want me to take this dosage for 5 weeks? ## My physician ordered this high dose because my blood reading was low AND a CT scan revealed Osteoporosis of my spine..... I had no symptoms . I was told the pills would merely stop farther erosion of the spine but would not cure present condition. Was also told it was important to have plenty of Calcium to help absorption of the Vitamin D., which my diet already contained, ## You should ask your doctor if he did a vitamin d level. While that dosage is a 'normal' dose to treat deficiency, unless you have a vitamin d level, that amount of vitamin d may not be nearly enough! You may need FAR more vitamin d in order to correct a vitamin d deficiency, but unless you get a vitami...

what are the side effects of this vitamin ## There are VERY VERY few side effects of Vitamin d. In most studies, researchers commented about the 'Incredible' lack of side effects of this vitamin- even at high doses. But everything DOES have side effects- even placebo's- so take a look at the page on Vitamin D Side Effects here: Most side effects are mild and easily managed. Sincerely, ## I am taking 50000 units of this vitamin D one time each week and the doctor is not checking it. I am on my 25th capsule and wonder when I can discontinue it. Thank you. Can I get too much of this? ## How much is 50000 units of Vitamin D? How many mg of iron is in Corvite? ## Hi Donna, 50,000 units of Vitamin D is 50,000 IU's of vitamin d. That is how it's measured, so I don't ha...

PLIVA Vitamin D. Does anybody else take this and what side effects are there? One a week. ## VIT D 50,000 UNITS BY PLIVA......I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT THE DYE CONTENT....ALLERGIC TO RED AND BLUE DYES ## This is just a nutritional supplement, so for most people there are no real side effects, other than perhaps a bit of nausea due to the high dosage. However, some people can be sensitive to it and may experience some bad reactions, which can include: muscle/joint pain, irritability, dizziness, insomnia, heart palpitations, chest pain, excess stomach acid, severe facial flushing and the list actually goes on and on. Vitamin D also has a long half-life, it takes about a month to reach 50% in your body, so if you experience detrimental effects, it can take a long time to get back to normal. ...

i like to know what will happen if i took the whole bottle of vitamin d2 50000 unit in 12 days instead of 12 weeks ## Mera wt abhi 50kg hai mereko kam se kam 80kg karna hai ## Hello, Susan! How are you? Please alert your doctor. Generally, it's not a serious issue, because it's been found that you can't really overdose on Vitamin D, however, it could throw off some lab tests. For instance, you may show elevated calcium levels, which can signify cancer in some people, but yours may just be due to the excess amounts of vitamin D. Your doctor may also want you to take a break from it, for awhile, and provide you with a new prescription to continue it at a later time. The FDA classifies this as a supplement and its most common side effect is constipation. Is there anything else ...

Do you take this supplement at night or with meals? When are you supposed to take it? ## You should take vitamin d with some sort of fat- any meal is fine. But you should be aware that taking D2 is NOT the recommended form of Vitamin D. Please take a look at the page on Vitamin D3 to see why that is preferred. You may also be interested in taking a look at this page on Magnesium and Vitamin D to see why it's not the best idea to 'just' take large doses of Vitamin D without taking magnesium to prevent some of the adverse effects that can occur with large doses of Vitamin D. ## suspect Vit D2 overdose with 50,000 units prescribed ## I was very tired so my dr. took blood work and found out I was low on Vitamin D. He put me on 51,000 units and after a few weeks, a person who nev...

MY RX was converted from 50000 units of vitamin d to 1.25mg. Is this the correct equivalent? ## Yes, that is the correct equivelent, but unfortunately this is for PRESCRIPTION vitamin d. Over the counter vitamin d is the recommended form of vitamin d by researchers- you can use the same dosage. Please read my page on prescription vitamin d to see why researchers say that it should not be used for supplementation: blog.easy-immune-health.com/nutrients/vitamin-d/prescription-vitamin-d-not-suitable-for-supplementation Prescription Vitamin d has a higher chance of toxicity, shroter half life and it is less potent than over the counter vitamin d3.

Is this capsule vitamin D3? It has an imprint on it of "NO20". It's from Fred's pharmacy in Gaston, SC. I filled my prescription but I can't find anything about it on the internet. ## It has been a while and I was just about to ask the same question. I filled my d3 50,000IU capsules and got the same pill. It must be some new form rather than the green gel capsules. ## I'd say if you got it filled at a licensed pharmacy (which seems to be the case) then it's more than likely to be what the label says it is, as there's a level of established trust that exists between patients and pharmacies that has to be actively maintained on their part. While I agree that mistakes do happen from time to time, seeing that post #1 also filled a prescription for the same ty...

Does it work immediately after you take it or does it take time to work into your blood stream, because I have stomach problems. ## Hello, Terri! How are you? What are you taking it for? And what formulation is it, tablet or liquid? ## I just had a complete blood work up and my internist said I need to take vitamin D2, 50,000 units once a week for 2 months. I don't take vitamins as they make me feel sick. I am afraid to take these for fear of side affects. Can anyone please tell me if they had any side affects from this dose? I rather take a lower dose every day and stop if I got any side affect. Thank you. ## Since you have problems with vitamins, I'd recommend NOT taking this prescription of high dose Vitamin D once a week, but going the health food store and getting Vitamin D...

Drisdol ## is generic as effective as Drisdol.. i'm a little concerned about side effects after reading some patient postings. have not yet begun to take my Rx ## My doctor prescribed Vitiam D2 1.25 MG (50,000) i a week for six months. Is this to much, and is that amount harmful. Another doctor of mine thinks it is to much. What is your opinion? Thanks you ## I was prescribed VITD2 50,000 units once a week for 4 weeks. I am concerned however and have not started taking them. Is there anything dietary/nutritionally I can do instead of these pills? ## Vitamin D is an important nutrient that is necessary for bone health, as well as overall health. Trying to identify a white capsule with N020 written sideways on one end. Is this Vitamin D3 50000 UNITS? ## Hi Mary, I located a white capsule marked with "2 N 020" that's identified as Loperamide (2mg), used for treating diarrhea. This particular pill is made by Teva Pharma. Although I haven't seen an image of either pill yet, I did think that this capsule's description might be a possible suspect. There's also a round white Allopurinol (100mg) pill with a marking of N020 on one side and scored on the other [A product of Northstar Rx LLC.] - I'd be curious to know whether this drug company (Northstar) has or had any other forms of this N020 pill made in past inventories (as a possible explanation to it appearing different)? Manufacturers seem notorious for ...

My Doctor prescribed 50k units of vitamin D as he said my count was extreemely low last year and I took them with no problems. On my recent physical its still low so he gave me another prescription. I am unemployed with no insurance and cannot afford them. So I took the old container which had three left which expired 5/30/2011. I felt like all my bones were sore, I was dizzy and I had two days of sleeping all the time. I was eating healthy, skim milk, organic soy milk, eating yogurt for breakfast and taking tums when I have issues with stomach due to eating spicy foods. I was taking calcium pills and taking my blood pressure and everything seemed ok. Should I take Calcium when taking this high dosage. I cannot call doctor as its too expensive to see him. i was perscribed 50,000 iu of iron one day a week pill. How much is this in mg? The perscription is for 5 months. ## Hi Faye, I find that really odd that your doctor said 50,000 IU, as Iron is not measured in international units, but rather milligrams or mcg. Generally, international units are used to measure "vitamins" such as A, C, E, D, etc...and not used for "minerals" such as iron. 1 IU vitamin A = 0.3 mcg (micrograms) 1 IU vitamin D = 0.025 mcg 1 IU vitamin E = 0.7 mcg as d-alpha tocopherol The translation from IU to micograms or milligrams is different for every vitamin; and as far as I know there is no converting measurement for Iron to go from mcg or mg to IU; or vise versa. Does anyone else have any information to share regarding this?
