Verapamil, sold under various trade names,[1] is a calcium channel blocker medication used for the treatment of high blood pressure, angina (chest pain from not enough blood flow to the heart), and supraventricular tachycardia.[7] It may also be used for the prevention of migraines and cluster headaches.[8][9] It is given by mouth or by injection into a vein.[7] Common side effects include headache, low blood pres...

I have been taking Verapamil 240 ER for many years. It works fairly well. But each time I went to get a 90 day supply it kept going up and up! It was some where near $39.00 when I first started taking it. The last two times I got a 90 day supply it was $40.00. ~Then 3 months passed and it was( $47.00 ) for a.3 month supply) It is now time to have it refilled. The Dr. had it changed to Verapamil 120mg (regular Not ER, or slow released) twice a day because of cost being so high!! However I cannot take it. It makes me so dizzy and nauseated !! I called the drug store to see if I still had refills on the verapamil ER. She said they do. But the cost for the verapamil 240 EX had went up substantially. She said it was made by TABZENITH??? And the price now for a 90 day supply would be $167.00!...

Began to fell better about 12 hours lster ## Hello, Sep! How are you doing? Sorry about the problems you experienced. These can be normal side effects of taking Verapamil, since it does work on blood flow, to lower blood pressure. The blood pressure elevation was most likely just due to your worrying about it and being active during the day. Learn more Verapamil details here. But that coldness of extremities doesn't usually go away, like other side effects will as you get used to the medication. Have you consulted your doctor? What is the difference between Verapamil Er 240 MG & Verapamil HCL ER Tab. ## Hi Gloria, From what I could gather, "HCL" is the chemically abbreviated form of Hydrochloride. It is basically the way that the medications are put into solid form. Many liquid or oral suspension formulas contain HBr, hydrobromide. Some medications also contain Fumarate or Maleate, all of which are mediums to put the substances into or dilute them. Since HCL is water soluble, the Verapamil that does contain HCL may be more easily absorbed into your system than the one that does not contain any HCL. This is just my theory as I haven't done a lot of research on the topic, but the bit of info I did find suggests it to be so. I hope this helps!

I have been informed by my pharmacy that their manufacturer has discontinued the white pill and have gone solely with the blue pill. (Teva Mfg. I believe). I have an allergy to dyes in pills and can only take white. Walgreens (my pharmacy) directed me to try CVS or Walmart, but neither one has white. I like verapamil tablets and would prefer not to change. Any ideas? ## Hello, Jan! How are you? Unfortunately, I'm not finding any others in that dosage of the ER that are white. Do you have any large hospitals or a compounding pharmacy near you? They may be able to create it for you in clear capsules, to avoid the dye problem. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

I've been on 120mg of verapamil for about 3 months. I take it for vestibular migraines. My neurologist doubled my dose to 240mg last week to see if it would help with persistent dizziness. I've had zero problems on the 120mg. I thought I was doing ok on the increased dose, but started running a low grade fever (99.5-100.9). I really have no other symptoms. The fever is persistent and will drop down for maybe an hour or two with anti-pyretics. Then it pops right back up. It's very weird, and I've never experienced anything like this before. I dropped my dose 3 days ago back to 120mg to see if the fever would break - no luck. It's been over a week now and I have developed a slightly productive cough in the last couple of days. I'm waiting to hear from my neurologis...

is a good pill for high blood pressure an is it easy on the stomach ## To my understanding, there is really no way a doctor or anyone else for that matter can know ahead of time how any medication can affect anyone. They can only assume that it will be effective based on medical records, current health, age, what the condition is, whether or not any other medications are being taken at the same time, etc. Any of these factors as well as others can affect how you end up responding to this drug. I have been taking Calan SR pills to control my heart palpitations for 10 years. I am being forced to move to the genetic Verapamil SR. I have a mitro valve prolapse. I have tried to use this generic before but it does not control by palpitations. What are the best manufacturers for this drug? Is there a different generic I can take that would help me? Thanks to all that answer ## Hello, John! How are you? Verapamil SR is the generic name for the medication, it is not the name of one by any particular manufacturer. Do you remember any other details about the one you tried, before, such as the manufacturer, how it looked, or the markings on it? The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination.

I am taking a high blood pressure medication, Verapamil, and I am just starting on Vyvanse. I'm not sure if this is going to affect my blood pressure in a bad way. Any help? ## Vynase is a stimulant medication, therefore, yes it can cause an elevation in your blood pressure and heart rate. Where these both prescribed by the same doctor? My friend is taking verapamil hcl er 120 mg and simvastatin for cholestrol. He has been taking the 2 for five years now. He now lives in NC and the Dr here said they inter act so he is changeing the cholestrol med. Does any one know if this is true? I don't see why the other Dr he went to for years would not know that. Thank you ## Using these 2 medications together can cause increased levels of the Simvastatin in the body, by inhibiting its metabolism through the liver. This does create some risks, however, in some cases a doctor may choose to just make sure they are carefully monitoring the patient and prescribe a lower dosage of the Statin medication. So, it isn't that they can't be used together, it's just that a doctor does have to carefully weight the potential ris...

What time of day should I take it? With or without food? ## What has your doctor advised? Normally, they want to take these types of medications in the morning, so it is in your system and working during the peak times of day that you are most active and your BP or heart issues may experience the most fluctuations. It can be taken with, or without food, so you can decide that for yourself, unless your doctor has given you specific instructions. It can cause some nausea, so some people find it better if they take it with food, to help minimize that.

I started out on 40mgs Verapamil SA for High Blood Pressure and PSVT...It was not enough, increased to 120mgs ER once pr day...That worked longer.. But had to go up to Verapamil 240mgs. That was the magic dose...Did really well on that dose. Awhile back, I noted my PSVT seemed to be acting up more often and my BP raised up.....I just noticed on my Rx bottle that the V.A. Pharmacy started sending me the right dose. But, it was Verapamil 240mg SA (Instead of my usual 240mgs ER.)...Dr. didn't order the change. But, I have noticed I don't do as well on one 240mg SA as I do on the 240mgs ER.....(Beginning to wonder is SA is "short Acting?)....Again Dr. didn't order the change....Obviously, the ER is better for me. ## No, the SA actually stands for sustained action, so both it...

What does this pill looks like? ## Hello, Myme! How are you? This is actually a generic medication, so it is manufactured by several different companies and there are far too many for me to be able to list the markings and descriptions of all them for you. What are the markings on the pill you're questioning? That would make it much easier for me to check for you.

Does Actavis still make Verapamil / Calan in 40mg tablets? ## Actavis has been purchased by Teva Pharmaceuticals, and they produce a 40mg Verapamil with the WATSON logo over the number 404, which is round, and orange. Ref: Teva This likely means that the specific one that was manufactured by Actavis is no longer available. Generally, when one company purchases another, or merges with another, they stop producing the duplicate products, as it is not cost effective to keep manufacturing all of them. What product does your pharmacy have available?

Is Verapamil 120 ER available in a form with no color? ## Hi Anne, Based on your description I'm assuming that you are referring to the color of the pill, is this correct? From what I could gather, there is only one Verapamil 120mg "SR" (slow release) pill that is all white with no color. At least here in the U.S. anyways. The pill I'm referring to is manufactured by Teva Pharmaceuticals USA. It is white, round, and has the imprint "120" on one side of the pill and on the other side is a logo that has two triangles pointing at each other, much like a little bow-tie. I hope this answers the intent of your question. If not, please post back with additional details and I'll do my best to help you locate an answer. ## Dave, Thank you SO MUCH!.
