Why would my ENT give this to me for coughing spasms? ## Hello, Janet! How are you? Tramadol can be used to suppress coughing spasms, it tends to suppress the cough reflex. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
