Tooth Infections Can I Use Sulfamethoxazole

Extreme tooth ache (infection) reoccurring of course. The only option to eliminate the pain and infection is a dentist. Of course I do not have that option right now. I haven't for a long time. Thus reoccurring tooth pain(infection). I have taken Clindamycin in the past for a tooth infection. But right now I only have the Sulfameth-Trimethoprim 800/160mg tabs. From what I have read it is not often prescribed for a tooth infection. But for a bacterial infection yes. So I am giving it a try. If it works I will update you. If it doesn't then it's a trip to the Emergency room for a numbing shot and a prescription for antibiotics that I might or might not be able to pay for. Tooth aches, abscess, or infection. You need to see a dentist, even if you already have an antibiotic to take, if there is a dental infection present, it will only help temporarily. Since the antibiotic cannot fix the underlying cause of the infection, such as a deep cary or receding gum line, it will just keep returning. Additionally, there is a chance that it isn't an actual infection and then it would not be appropriate to use an antibiotic and that creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. i have an absess tooth and want to know if I can take Sulfamethoxazole-TMP-DS for this? ## An abcess tooth is tricky and may be dangerous depending upon the circumstances. Serious bone (i.e. osteomylitis) infections can develop if not cared for. Pen VK first, Amoxicillin is second and a third generation like Cefdinir would be an alternate choice with ampicillin allergies. I believe I was prescribed these pills for an infected tooth. We'll I never took them and it's been several months now, I just cranked the same tooth. If these mouth sores that you're describing are related to an infection, I can confirm that this medication is also used for treatment of both tooth and gum infections; although it does not specify if mouth sores are included in this category of treatment. And it can be used for a dental infection, but the relevant question is: Was it prescribe to treat this dental infection? If not and you just have some left over from a prior prescription, you may run into problems if you don't have enough to completely eradicate the infection, because you run the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. On top of that, a dental infection does require proper follow up treatment from a dentist to fix the underlying issue that has caused it, or there is a high likelihood that it will just recur.
