I just got my brothers autopsy report back and it says he died from overdose of Fentanyl and Methone . It says no alcohol. Methone amount was.05 fentanyl was .19 is that enough for someone to die? ## I am so very sorry for your loss. There's no specific range that can be given to answer your question. It depends on the person, their age, weight, overall health and their tolerance to narcotics. Some people can take quite a lot and not have a problem, while other may overdose at much lower doses. The FDA classifies these medications as narcotic opiates, so there is a risk of them being habit forming and abused. Their typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation and dry mouth. Did he have any medical conditions?

How many mgs.of roxycodone is equal to 100mg of fentanyl spray for under your tough? ## Two different pain medications can and usually do effect everyone differently whether it's the same dosage or not. The results would be different every time, based on tolerance, body chemistry, underlying health conditions, and several other personal factors. Fentanyl is also regarded as a significantly more potent pain medication. If you tried to take the amount of Roxicodone that would equal Fentanyl, you may as well have overdosed on Roxicodone. All in all, there is really no safe way to compare two very diiferent opiates. Narcotic conversions are innaccurate and are really just an educated guess. Be very careful when using Fentanyl. Many people are not aware that the 100mcg is only an hourly ...

Im on morphine 20ml daily and fentonyl patches 100mg every 3 days I ran out of my pain relief last week n used subutex today. My script is due tomorrow is it safe to take without being in agony??? ## My advice - I currently have a very low tolerance and applied a 100 mcg patch 10 hrs ago. I stopped a 180 mg daily oxy habit of 3 years 2/14. Since 2/14 until now my opiate usage would be 5 30 mg oxy's monthly typically - I've used maybe 25 mcg orally 3 times in the past 5 months and 60 mg morphine plugged a couple times. I have also used subutex a few times I no longer experience opiate w/d and a dose of 30 mg oxy leaves me extremely buzzed for a good 12 hrs. That being said, I rec'd a 100 mcg patch today to help me with extreme back pain for the next 4 days. I was nervous to w...

pain control medication for person that has had 15 abdominal surgeries.Abdominal muscle damage, 2 bypasses, 40% of stomach removed, exploratory to locate appendix, attachment of liver to stomach, gallbladder removed, abdominal abcesses. ## Hello, Grinch! How are you? In such cases, the Fentanyl skin patch is usually prescribed, that why it bypasses the stomach, so there is nothing to hinder its absorption. It is a very potent medication, over 80 times stronger than Morphine and each patch is worn for 48 to 72 hours, depending on the person's pain levels and tolerance. The FDA lists this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I was on fentanyl for 3 years. I lost half of my monthly dose and just didn't take any. I had it last march 26 and JUST FOUND THE BOX! I have not been on any narcotics since then, I hurt really bad, is it safe to put on a patch? ## Have you consulted your doctor? What dosage are the patches? There may be some issues, since you went from being on it, to being off, then suddenly jump back on, without taking anything else in the meantime. Your tolerance levels may have changed, so I'd suggest consulting your doctor first. ## The out of date would not worry me as much as jumping back on. I'd suggest using breakthrough meds until you talk to Dr. You had no withdrawal. Did I miss the strength or no. I would not worry if its a start dose 12.5 or so

How much hydrocodone is equivalent to a 75mcg fentanyl patch every 48hrs? I'm trying to replace my patch with oral hydrocodone. ## With regards to medication equivalency, I feel that there is no effective way to compare Hydrocodone and Fentanyl on a milligram to microgram basis. Not only does each individual react/respond differently to the same substances, but we also have to factor in the numerous binders and fillers which affect absorption/bioavailability, the variances across each manufacturer's quality assurance, tolerance, weight, one's unique level of pain (that fluctuates intermittently throughout the day), and most importantly the route of administration (transdermal vs orally)... Working closely with your doctor through trial and error may help you determine an eff...

How many mcg of fentanyl n how often would equal to the 6 a day 8mg Dilaudid I'm taking. My tolerance is going up really fast. I'm suffering. 25 mcgs of 10 fentanyl patches are only $44, while ridiculously 15mcg is 184$. Just wondering if 25 mcg and 10 patches in a month is what I should ask my dr for? She prefers ms contin but it's 88$. Can't win for losing. I can give everyone a tip tho. Use an RX Savings Card - YOU SAVE A CRAP LOAD OF $$$ USING THEM!! ;) Thank you in advance for any replies. ## Hello, Jodie! How are you? It only takes .64mgs of Fentanyl to equal your current daily dose of Dilaudid, the patches are usually changed every 72 hours. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizzi...

I've been using the the 25mcg patch for chronic pain for 3mos. and feel it is not working as well as it did in the beginning. Could I be building a tolerence this soon? Should I ask my neurologist to increase the dosage? or should I ask for other pain med to use with the patch? ## You have definitely built up a tolerance. Also, the problem with extremely strong narcotics like fentanyl is when you become dependent (NOT addicted, big difference), your brain starts to send out a false sense of pain that is telling you that you need more and more. It is all up to you and your doc. The more and the longer you stay on it the worse it will be to get off of it (withdrawals). Also they could could give you something else on top of the fent for breakthrough pain, but it will just probably be ...

A friend who isn’t me is on Fentanyl (d1) but the amount that, that person has done is not showing equivalent to what can be said years of experience and battle. I think maybe a certain cut is hyper counteracting the opiate, maybe a high amount of caffeine or sugar mix (d2). Can said person overdose on said counteractive? Another variable/Question: Say that person has higher tolerance of (d1), can that person OD on (d2)?

Hi.. It is my understanding that some opiates like H cause some changes in your brain over the long term and I was wondering if this was the case with fentanyl? It is a regularly prescribed medicine so I was hoping no. Anyone? ## Hello, Browncow! How are you? That is one of the huge differences that explains why some drugs are legal and some aren't. The benefits have to outweigh the possible risks and they actually have to have a therapeutic medical use. And no, I've not found anything about Fentanyl causing brain damage. As listed by the FDA, the most common reported issues with long-term use are addiction, tolerance and overdose. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mout...

I have a patch that is called Transdermal system and it says 25 mcg/hr, it also says each Transdermal system contains: 2.55 mg Fentanyl. I am a first time user on this medication, what effects will I experience? ## Well, this can have some adverse effects. I am not sure if you have previously used narcotics, I know this should not be used by anyone who has not already built up a narcotic tolerance as it is a very, very strong med. 80 times stronger than Morphine as a matter of fact. My doctor tried taking from Darvocet to the patch 25s and I was so sick, for days, that I couldn't even hold down water, even when she gave me the strongest antinausea that she could. Some people love these, they can work wonders for pain, but they don't agree with some people, so you will basically ...

Fentanyl Duragesic patches R not for acute pain such as after surgery. Only for chronic long-term pain. I am in constant pain from back, neck, hip and foot injury in serious car wreck 5 years ago. I use 50 mcg patches and percocet 1000 mg for pain, but it is never totally gone, just bearable. ## I am not sure what the dosage is on your Percocet, or if it is even Percocet you are taking, because it does not come in a 1000mg tablet. The max for Percocet is 650mgs of Acetaminophen with 10mgs of Oxycodone. As to the Fentanyl, if it is not controlling your pain, then you have probably built up a tolerance to that dosage and may need to talk to your doctor about making a med adjustment. It does come in up to 75mcgs in the patches. ## Vernon, Please tell me. Maybe you will know. I am so tired ...

Morphine does not work on me will fentanyl patch work right now I am taking oxycodone 30 milligram 6 times a day for the past year how strong of a fentanyl patch should I be on my doctor suggested switching me to the fentanyl and I am worried that it won't work I have had 6 back surgery's and the oxycodone is not working anymore my tolerance has built up to high ## Hello, Nathan! How are you? Fentanyl is the strongest available, it's over 80 times stronger than Morphine. Your doctor will most likely have you start at the 25mcgs or 50mcgs dosage, since it's so potent to see how it works for you. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mout...

I have a high (extremely high) tolerance for opiates, I have about 25-30 mcg left of a Fentanyl patch. I am going to use some intravenously, I have all new, clean needles etc. I would like to know how to do it right. ## SWIM found out how to get the fentanyl off the patch, but decided not to go the I.V route. Thanks ## thank god...you would have killed yourself.it doesnt matter how high your tolerance is sweetie.im a long time addict(seems that way anyway)i was diagnosed with a chronic pain condition at 7 now im 34.i was on fentanyl 200mcg every 72hrs.i figured out a way to abuse it without chewing the nasty s***.on the box it says do not put in direct sun or let it get over a certain degrees.so i put my heating pad on it on med heat to see what would happen.well let me tell you i felt ...

I've been using 100mcg patch Fentanyl every 48 hours for months now. Last week my neurologist had to prescribe me a Medrol-Dos Pak (steroids) because the pain in my knee became unbearable, even with pain medication. It was too early to get another shot. So, I'm now on DAY 3 of the DOSE PAK, and I swear these patches start wearing off after only 1 day! Out of the blue I started feeling horrible withdrawal symptoms yesterday, even though I wasn't due to change the patch until today. I had no choice but to replace the patch early. I figured maybe it was a defective patch. But now TODAY I am experiencing the same problem. If these are not defective patches, then the only factor possible is the steroid medication having an effect on the medication/or my body's tolerance level...

Can I still take hydrocod/acetam 7.5-325 mg if I put on a 25mcg fentanyl patch 2 hrs ago? I'm still in horrible pain from ruptured disk on a nerve. ## Hi Katie, sorry to hear about your pain. No, you should not take a medication containing Hydrocodone or any other opioids with your Fentanyl patch, as they could result in an overdose. What could end up happening is severe central nervous system (CNS) depression which could result in difficulty breathing, coma, or worse. Best wishes with your pain management. Please let your doctor know if the 25mcg patch is not helping enough. ## That would depend on your opiod tolerance.... I used to be on 75mcg Fyn patch & was also on 6-10/325 hydrocodone a day b4 the gov issues. I had no problems with them BUT I was on an ever increasing climb...

Can fentanyl 50 mcg/h and morphine sulfate cr 30 mg tab, be taken together at the same time? ## Have you consulted a doctor? Where they prescribed to be used together? Since these are both controlled release medications, they are rarely used together, in this manner, due to the risks it can cause, since they both cause depression of the central nervous system. This is usually only done in cases of very severe, chronic pain, where the person has already built up a tolerance to the narcotics and is no longer getting effective relief from them. Normally, if someone is using the Fentanyl patch and requires a medication for breakthrough pain, they are given a regular release or instant release medication. ## Did a doctor prescribe these? If so, did one doctor prescribe the morphine and one t...

My pain Dr.had me on 30mg. of morphine sulfate 3 times per day & switched me to 50 mcg. Fentanyl patches at 1 every 3 days. The morphine was keeping me up at night & did'nt seem to ease the pain.Second day on the patch & it does'nt stop the pain either any suggestions will be truely appreciated..Thanx ## I don't have an exact answer to your question, since everyone responds differently to both of these medications (based on tolerance, etc). However, according to numerous articles, Fentanyl is said to be approximately 100 times more potent than Morphine, with 100 micrograms of Fentanyl approximately equivalent to 10 mg of Morphine in analgesic activity (or in regards to pain relief). I hope this information helps! ## You need to give it a little time. I am on 75 ev...

I have had severe chronic nerve pain in my lower back from a botch-up surgery for 7 yrs. I was taking roxicodone 30mg with percocet 5/325 for breakthur til 2 days ago, my doc prescribed fentynl patch 50mg along with 15mg roxicodone for breakthru. having serious pain, is it safe for me to double the 15? I feel like I would be literally double-dosing but the pain is intolerable. I hope someone out there can offer me some good advice or a solution. ## Hi Juliette, Sorry to hear about your challenges with pain. Based on your description, it looks like the doc has substituted the percocet as well as 15mgs worth of roxicodone for the fentanyl patch. And this is just my theory but it seems to me that he's trying to taper you down off the roxicodone, perhaps as a way to keep your tolerance ...

Hello, friends! I started the Fentanyl patch 100mc today after OxyContin treatment my highest dose was 80OP up to 4 per 24 hours. I suffer from agonizing chronic pain due to severe nerve damage in my feet (medical neglect and misdiagnosed 3 years ago). I've build up opioid tolerance pretty quickly, so my doctor suggested the Fentanyl patches, plus, I felt "victimized by the system" - all and everyone plays the "Cops", lecturing me about the risks of opioids, treating me like a "junkie". Nothing against those that use these meds recreationally, but because of those very people, I will convulse in ER, and the attending doctor will insist on reaching my neurologist first before administering the pain relief... Finally, my doctor suggested these patches - I am MO...
