I have been taking Eliquist since October 2015. Three weeks ago, I developed a severe rash on my right calf and hive like bumps on both forearms with constant itching and redness. This is the first time that this has happend since I had a stroke, caused by a fall and hitting my head, in April 2015. I have been diagnosed with A-fib for over 10 years and also take digoxin ( 0.125 mg ) and Plavix during that time prior to the stroke. what are my options for getting off of Eliquis? Right after my stroke, I was given warfarin and had no problems, only now after taking Eliquis have I developed this rash and itching. Any sugestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Dave in Mexico ## You could speak to your doctor about possibly going back on Warfarin, or trying an alternative medication, there are...

Experienced dizzyness, headache, unusual weakness with initial start of Eliquis 5mg tab. Will be put on 2.5mg strength. Can my supply of 5mg Eliquis be split and used up as 2.5mg? hpask ## Hello, hpask! How are you? Yes, that should be safe to do, since it is not time released, but you may want to double check with your pharmacist to be certain. This medication may cause you to bruise more easily, as well as increase your risk of bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi everyone; Thank you for any replies, I have been on cartia for some time now as have a/fib, had a TIA a couple of weeks ago now Dr`s want me to take Elequis 5mg twice a day. I hate to be indelicate but I have noticed something strange since taking Eliquis. My urine and bowel movements smell different and I wondered if anyone else had noticed this. I would describe it as sort of a toasted oaty fragrance. I am not making this up or being weird. I am concerned and hope I am not along. ## Oh my goodness YES, it does have an odd smell. ## NIH.gov actually lists the following side effects associated with Eliquis (Apixaban): red, brown, or pink urine; red or black, tarry stools. However nothing in particular about its smell. Has anyone else experienced these odd colors in their urine/stool or think that this may be attributing to the different smell in some way? In either case I would suspect it's more than likely Eliquis that's causing the problem if you...

Hi all, Newbie here after being put on Apixaban after a bout of aFib. My question is fairly simple. How many of you have gotten into competitive sport that has some sort of risk? A little bit more about me. Previous heart attack, cardiac arrest 5 years ago. First bout of aFib was somewhat of a surprise as I regularly do long distance runs up to 50km plus play competitive field sports. ## Hello, Greg! How are you? Does your doctor feel it is safe for you to engage in such activities? As I'm sure you're aware, there is a risk of possibly dangerous bleeding, if you are injured, and also an increased risk of severe bruising, while on it, according to FDA warnings. Ref: Medline Plus Eliquis Other side effects may include headache, fatigue, and joint/muscle aches. Are you on any other...

I am to take 5 mg at 8 am and 8 pm. I forgot 8 am one until noon so I took it then. When do I take the 8 pm dose? Also, how soon after the pm dose may I take 2 Tylenol PM? ## Hi Judi - Can you please write back with what drug you are taking at 8 am and 8 pm? You did not mention what other medication you are taking in your message. That way it should be possible to see if there are any drug interactions. ## I take 5 mg Eliquis at 8am and 8pm. In the morning I also take 20 mg Escitalopram, 100 mg Losartan, 180 mg Diltiazem. At 8pm I also take 10 mg Amlodipine and the 5 mg Eliquis. {Editor's note: The thread title has been manually revised and filed under Eliquis} ## Thank you for the additional details Judi. According to MedlinePlus.gov, if you miss a dose of Apixaban (the active ingr...

Can I take Septra while on Eliquis? I have been on Eliquis for six months. I take 2.5 mg Eliquis twice a day. I have the flu bug now & my doctor put me on Septra. Is there a problem taking this antibiotic while taking Eliquis? ## I didn't find any problems or interactions listed, but Septra is an antibiotic that is used to treat, or prevent bacterial infections. It will not do anything to treat the flu, since it is caused by a virus. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, non-allergic skin rash, and headache. Are you feeling any better?

Even with good insurance, my out of pocket cost for a month of 5 mg Eliquis is $155. Does anyone know of any ways to assist with this cost? ## Call the pharmaceutical company and explain your situation I got many months of free meds this way also ask your doctor they have samples with a free 30-day Supply attached ## Canada Drugs is usually priced lower. Don't let Big Pharma scare you, they are tightly regulated. Check out their web site, you can price your drug on line. ## There is a place called Caring Collation that help people with meds if they can't pay for them and don't make a whole lot of money. Also Caring Voices. Look those up on the computer. ## Maybe your doctor can switch you to Xarelto, our CVS Caremark plan costs $115 for a 3 month supply, with a $24 a month pre...

I have been on Eliquis for 3 years, after having a blood clot from back surgery. Also have Afib. I have pain all over...back pain, fibro, nerve pain. Terribly sore all time. Seems like it all became worse after I started taking Eliquis. Sometimes urine smells like motor oil. Don’t know if it’s Eliquis but I suspect it is. I have recently felt like I have some kind of arthritis. Just debilitating pain all the time. Wish I knew if it was caused by Eliquis! ## I was misdiagnosed with a blood clot in my calf. I went in with pain and they read the x ray wrong in urgent care. I was sent home on Eliquis only to end up by ambulance at the ER from side effects. You are not suppose to be on that for this long. You need a cat scan to see if you’re good if in fact you know that yo...

I have been taking Eliquis for 3 weeks and have had 3 gout flare-ups. I am not drinking beer and have had limited red meat and seafood (3 of the more popular triggers). Is there a connection between Eliquis and gout flare-ups? ## Hello, Todd! How are you doing? I am sorry about the problem you're having. Yes, gout is a common side effect of this medication, according to FDA reports, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. Are you on any other medications? ## I started taking Indomethacin for the gout flare-ups and it worked good. I am not on any other medications. My doctor believes the gout flare-ups were due to rapid weight loss (down 25 pounds in 1.5 months).

My 91 year old Mom was switched to Eliquis and has been totally exhausted and suffering from confusion and memory loss. Anyone else having the confusion/memory loss issue? ## Hello, Freddie! How is your mom doing? Yes, those are known side effects of taking Eliquis, along with bruising, fainting and headache. Side effects should start to taper off in severity after about 4 weeks, as her body adjusts to the medication. But if they don't, or if they worsen, her doctor should be consulted. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes, my 88 year old husband has been on Eliquis since July and he is experiencing major confusion, and I believe even had a night terror. When I carefully skip a dose he regains his usual mental state back. It's very frustrating as the doctors aren't...

My wife has blood clots and we cant afford this medicine its really to high and I need some samples please please . ## Hello, Reggie! How is your wife doing? If you're low-income and uninsured, there is an assistance program that she can apply for, you can call them for an application and more information as 800-736-0003. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Alternatively, she could speak to her doctor about trying a medication, such as Coumadin that is available as a generic. Is there anything else I can help with? ## You can obtain a co-pay card from Bristol Myers for Eliquist and pay no more than a $10.00 co-pay by calling 1-855-354-7847. I just received one. ## t...

My cardiologist wants to put me on the drug eliquis 5mg 2x daily for AFIB, plus the drug metoprolol ER succinate for HBP. I would like to read patients results, mostly positive and good, after or while taking these drugs. I am 84 yrs young and with few exceptions have been prescribed drugs (example- anti-biotics) in my lifetime - not even an aspirin, so I am quite concerned about these drugs especially since I've read so many negative verging on horror stories regarding Eliquis. ## I've been on Eliquis for over a year for DVT & PE. I can't say enough good things about it. I'm sure your doctor is good & has checked your kidney function before determining your dose. I experienced headaches and upset stomach when I first started taking it, but they were mild & d...

I take 2 ELIQUIS tablets a day. One @ breakfast @ one @ 8 p.m. I would like to know if I can take Instaflex Advanced without any problems. ## Hello, Sally! How are you? You should check with your doctor, before taking it. It may not be safe for you to do so, since one of the ingredients in this supplement is Resveratrol, which may also cause blood thinning. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Eliquis as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi I recently broke my hip, I'm 25 and have been given eliquis to take. It's been 6 weeks now and I'm experiencing my hair start to thin and fall out including my eyelashes. Does anyone know how long it takes to grow back or how long after stopping taking it, your hair stops falling out. At 25 losing my hair is pretty distraught, I could deal with the constant insomnia, low blood pressure and nausea but not this. ## That can be a normal side effect of this medication, according to NIH reports. Are you also taking any others? I have had that happen from medications in the past, so I understand how upsetting it is. You should probably talk to your doctor about trying a different medication.

Four months ago, I was found to have pulmonary embolisms in all segmental and subsegmental lobes of my right lung and my upper left lung. There was no known cause; all ultrasounds were negative as was all blood work associated with PE. My EKG was normal. My blood pressure is 120/70. I have been taking Eliquis since. I would like to quit taking Eliquis since no one can figure out what caused these and there seems to be nothing else wrong with me. So how do I taper off this drug? ## Hello, Georgia! How are you? I'm not sure if you understand the gravity of this situation, pulmonary embolisms can be deadly, if left untreated and, once someone has experienced one or more of them, they can be very prone to experiencing more. Thus, it is best to continue the medications, as long as your d...

I only take 2.5 mg of eliquis. I was supposed to take it 2x a day but with the side effects I'm not going to. It's affecting my stomach, weight, and cough. Bad ## Hello, Carol! How are you? Those can be normal side effects of it, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience headache, dizziness, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. However, if you're afraid of the side effects and don't want to take it as prescribed, you should talk to your doctor, they may be able to prescribe an alternative medication. Is there anything else I can help with?

I got a DVT blood clot resulting from a severe ankle injury 7almost months ago. I had a procedure to clear up the problem. Also, I was on eliquis for six months. Two and a half weeks ago I got an ultrasound and my doctor said it was cleared up and time to get off the eliquis. He told me to take 325mg of asprin in the morning for the next six months witch I have been doing. The pain I had in the back of my knee and in my quadricept muscle is back with a vengeance. Is this normal? ## It is hard to say, it could be rebound effects from stopping the Eliquis, according to NIH studies, but there is also a chance you may have developed another clot. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? What type of procedure was done? Are you on any other medications?

I've just started taking Eliquis, 5mg x 2 day for nonvalvular Afib. I'm experiencing dizziness & lightheadness. I have suffered from vertigo for years from heading loss & age (70 yrs old). I guess my question is will the dizziness go away as my body adjusts to this new medication? ## I had the same problem. Felt like I was going to pass out. Two different effects at the same time. I was on a heart monitor at the time. The drug caused tachycardia, it was recorded. The second effect is the lightheadedness. Felt like I had a couple shots of whiskey. I do not drink. Have been off Eliquis for two weeks. The tachycardia has gone away. The lightheadedness has reduced but is still present. Tough drug to live with. I am back on aspirin. 81 mg twice per week. ## Interestingly enou...
