When taking prescribed antibiotics and the dosage is 1 pill twice a day, how many hours should before the next dosage? ## Hi Dman, Based on a 24 hour time scale, if you're required to take 1 pill twice daily, that "generally" means taking 1 pill every twelve hours. However I would recommend double checking this with your doctor first, in case he or she has special instructions for your individual case. From what I understand, the dosing schedule may also depend on the brand and whether or not it's an extended release tablet. I hope this helps! What's the name of the antibiotic you're taking? ## levetiraceta 1000MG ## I've just started taking Nitrofurantoin MCR 100MG CAPSULES. They're yellow in color. ## I'm taking amox-clav 875mg tablets. All doctors have prescribed me to take 1 antibiotic 4 times a day, but another doctor said to take 2 tablets twice a day. Does it matter how you take them? Which method has the best effect? ## Hello, Kathy! How are you? It is consistent dosing that's important, you have to keep it in your system at a consistent regular level, in order for it to eradicate the bacteria. So, you can take it, either way, whichever works best for you, but keep the timing as precise as possible. If you take 2 of them twice a day, keep them as close to 12 hours apart as possible; or if you take it 4 times a day, keep them as close to 6 hours apart as possible. I've been taking cephalexin 500 mg 3 times a day for 5 days now for my upper respiratory infection and sinus infection per dr request but i still feel pretty rough. Still coughing and blowing out nasty stuff. Why isn't this working yet? ## Hi Janice, Sorry to hear about your situation. Depending the severity of the infection(s) some doctors prescribe these antibiotics for up to 7-10 days, so it's possible that you may not get full relief for another 2-5 days. On another note, Cephalexin also has some strange side effects that in my opinion could inadvertently be mistaken for an ongoing infection. This includes "coughing, nausea and vomiting, sore throat, tightness in the chest, etc". Ref: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0044994/#DDIC603067.side_effects_section But n...

The U.S. FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Recently, I have experienced sore in my ear. Not sure if it is swollening or not. I have been prescribed amoxicillin 1g 3x a day for 7 days. I am on day 3 and now have a yeast infection. My pharmacist said to take fluconazole (1 pill). Will this be ok to take while still on amoxicillin? ## Yes, they are often prescribed together, when someone is prone to getting yeast infections from antibiotics. Amoxicillin almost always causes one for me, so my doctor usually just prescribes them together from the get go. Your doctor is always the best judge, I can only tell you that they are commonly taken together. The NIH warns that you may experience side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, flatulence, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I’m American, male, 25, 5”11 and weight 140. No smoking and currently taking Amox/k clav 875-125mg tablets (1 tablet two times a day for 7 days). Before that starting on the 12th I was taking amoxicillin 500mg (1 cap two times a day for 10 days) until the 19th then on the next day the 20th I started on the Amox/k and will finish this today. I’m not exactly sure when iit started maybe 3-4 days ago, but a spot on my face next to nose started to burn and has gotten worse now turning slightly reddish with burning stinging itchiness and a little flaky. My face around that area feels really greasy/oily, that the idea of scratching it makes me think I’ll peel/rub off some skin. It’s not really flaky right now, but I see something there that if my skin was dry woul...

I had an open sore on my left big toe, and I went swimming in a personal friends lagoon on their resort. A staph infection got into the sore and quickly spread throughout my left leg. The leg swelled to three times its normal size, and I spent three weeks in a hospital, where they bombarded it with antibiotics. That procedure was working, but the antibiotics had trace effects of blood thinner qualities. I am a heart patient that has had nine heart procedures, including a quadruple bypass. I cannot take ANY TYPE OF BLOOD THINNER without hemorrhaging. The antibiotics with thinners in them caught up with me, and I spent several trips to the hospital, severely hemorrhaging from the nose and mouth. I had to stop the antibiotics, and now the infection is starting to spread in my leg again. My...

If your supposed to take a med 1pill every 4 hours how many pills total is that a day? ## Is that like 6 total pills a day? ## Prescription says to take 1 tab every 6 hours...how many pills is that taking a day? I'm thinking thats 4 pills a day. The total qty is 120 for a month. 4 pills a day for 30 days is 120 pills total...right? ## Yes, every 4 hours would be 6 pills a day and every 6 hours would be 4 pills a day. However, it should be noted that you may not need to take that many of all medications. Some, such as pain medications, may be prescribed to be taken as needed and that means you can take it a maximum of that many times a day, but you don't have to take them all, if you don't need to do so. But for others, such as antibiotics or cardiac medications, you should t...

You should take 1 pill every six hour 4 times a day . 1 hour before you eat or 2 hours after you eat.. but if it causes nausea you can take with food it just takes longer to absorb. . You should take for a least 7 days better if you take for 10 days ...hope this helps ## Thanks for sharing this dosing information on Ampicillin. I just wanted to build off what was mentioned and add a couple details for other readers on here. Even though a 7-10 day regimen seems to be most prevalent for typical bacterial infections, I have heard of cases where people are on antibiotics like this for several weeks or more at a time. It all depends on what type of infection you might be dealing with and how severe it is, but I think it should be left up to the doctor to determine what length of time a patie...

it has gg o n the left side an n7 on the right side. it,s a white pill.amox/k clav875 125tabsandoz for tooth infection ## To answer your question, yes, you can take these pills for a tooth infection. Amoxicillin is included in the list of popularly prescribed antibiotics for tooth infections. Its effectiveness however, depends on how far the tooth infection has spread; and if required, combination therapy is followed. The effectiveness of amoxicillin for addressing tooth infection also largely depends upon taking it in correct dosage, which is decided by the concerned doctor. A common dosing method for a tooth infection is taking one pill 3 times a day, (i.e., after every 8 hours) for 10 days. I would recommend checking with your doctor to verify what might be best for you though. I hop...

I'm trying to also figure it out but have had absolutely no luck ## this is Apoquel for my dogs allergies ! just found on the floor she spit out this morning ## Yes my dog takes the same thing for allergies. I wish they would prescribe antibiotics with it also. The itchies are driving her CRAZY!! ## I believe its apoquel. My dog takes it but in a much smaller dose and they have 3 times now mistakenly given me the pill you describe instead. IT'S for itching/allergies. So I think your pill is just a much larger dose of apoquel.
