Laxatives (purgatives, aperients) are foods, compounds or drugs taken to loosen the stool, most often taken to treat constipation. Certain stimulant, lubricant and saline laxatives are used to evacuate the colon for rectal and/or bowel examinations, and may be supplemented by enemas under certain circumstances. Sufficiently high doses of laxatives may cause diarrhea. Laxatives work to increase the movement of feces along the colon.[1] Some laxatives combine more than one active ingredient. La...

I have a tiny odd green color tablet, one side has a half mark and the other side has the letters SENTILAX on it. I was given this at a mexico pharmacy for constipation. ## Did you perhaps mean to say "Gentilax" as opposed to Sentilax? Gentilax is a laxative drug manufactured in Mexico; used to treat constipation. It is said to contain 60mgs of Phenolphthalein; a homeopathic agent. The oral recommended dose is one to two laxative tablets, but its capacity is adjusted by increasing or decreasing the amount. I hope this information helps! ## Gentilax is definitely a laxative tablet. It does indeed have a line on the back of it that you can use to cut the tablet in half. This is useful if you need to take a dosage of a tablet and a half of it instead of two tablets.

I am a 20 year old female. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with "chronic constipation." I have a bowel movement probably 1-2 times a week. I have had 2 colonoscopies and a flex sig done, and everything appeared to be normal. I have tried every remedy there is: fruit, fiber, laxs, stool softener, enema, exercise, and nothing seems to do the trick. Recently my dr started me on Linzess. I have been taking it for 2 weeks now. So far my bowel movements have not improved while taking Linzess. I spoke with my dr and they suggested that I add miralax to my daily routine along with Linzess. I have not had any improvement with my bowel movements while taking miralax and linzess. Can anyone give me advice or their input? Has anyone else had the same issues? I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE!! P...

Hi. I've been trying to have a regular bowel movement for the past few days and I've not been able to. On Friday (5/19/17) I had to go to the hospital because I couldn't take the pain of my stomach. So since Thursday I've been having problems using the restroom and they had me take a magnesium laxative and I did and I was stuck in the restroom for an hour and it stopped for a bit and had to go again the same day; so a couple of times and I was really in pain :( Sunday early morning around 5am I had to go to the hospital again so idk what's going on. On Tuesday 5/23/17 around 8ish my boyfriend and I stopped at the store to buy prune juice because I heard that it helps for your constipation. I took a glass of 80z and I didn't know how long it takes to adjust so I t...

What type of laxitive can i take with Opana er 10 mg ## Hello, From what I can gather, there shouldn't be any limitations regarding what laxatives you can use with this medication. However, I'm not a medical doctor so that information is only based on my research. A couple laxative medications I've found information on are: Amitiza- this medication softens the stool by increasing its water content, so the stool can pass easily. This medication is taken twice daily with food. Some reported side effects of Amitiza include headache, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting. Cephula, Chronulac, Constulose, Duphalac, Enulose, (lactulose)- Lactulose, a prescription laxative with many brand names, draws water into the bowel to soften and loosen the stool. Side effects include...

The past several times I have taken Linzess I have become extremely gassy about an hour later, but still no BMs. Does this happen to anyone else? ## Hello, Susan! How are you? Have you been making sure to take it a half hour, before eating or drinking anything else? Some doctors and pharmacist didn't inform people that it must be taken in the morning on an empty stomach, with just an 8 ounce glass of water. The gas can be a normal side effect, you may also experience dizziness, bloating and abdominal cramping. Can anyone that's on this medication chime in?

Can methadone cause extreme gas and painful constipation so severe that thought I was going to have to go to the emer gency ward at hospital ## Hello, EJK! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you experienced. Yes, narcotics can cause those as side effects in some people that take them, but that severity isn't common. It would be best to have it checked out by your doctor, to be sure. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and dry mouth. This medication also carries the risk of being habit forming. Are you on any other medications? ## I was on methadone for many years. Every few months I would experience extreme constipation. I knew I needed to go but couldn't. It was frustrating and the stomach pains were horrible. I dra...

I'm looking for a red pill about the size of a Sudafed pill for constipation. I was given this pill when my first child was born to have a bowel movement after the nurse put me through other painful procedures, I'm expecting my 2nd child in May & I refuse to do those procedures again & would like to know what that pill is & how to get it. Thank you. ## It was most likely just a stool softener, they are commonly given to women after birth, because after labor, many women don't pass stool for a few days, and when they finally do, it can be very hard, so a softener makes it easier. Many of them can be purchased over the counter in most drug stores, and pharmacies, but they may not want you take them, while in the hospital. Ref: Medline Plus Stool Softeners What proc...

I have been tested for Chron's Disease and that was negative. I was recently referred to a GI Specialist, who initially started me on Amitzia. Savella has devinatley made the pain from Fibromyalgia decrease. but I am very, very constipated. Has this happened to anyone else??? ## Great to hear that this is working so well for you. Constipation is a known side effect of this medication, along with nausea, headache and insomnia. Have you tried any remedies? When I have this problem with medications, I usually find that fiber supplements are quite helpful. ## YES! Constipation was horrible. It actually caused me to stop taking Savella. But now intense pain is back. A real Catch-22. Have you found a solution to the problem? ## I too have the problem with constipation, but I have found if I drink plenty of water and fruits and vegts I am able to get along just fine. ## I too also took sAvella for two and a half months. Hello. I'm needing to take tramadol & co-codamol, but have bad constipation. Any thoughts on sticking to tramadol only maybe? Best wishes. ## You can discuss that option with your doctor, it really depends on what works best for you to alleviate your pain. However, in many cases, opioid related constipation can be alleviated by just increasing ones fiber intake through foods, or a fiber supplement. Along with the risk of being habit forming, these medications may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? ## You can get an over the counter stool softener or ask your doctor to prescribe one and make sure you are drinking lots of water. That should alleviate your constipation.

Will Tryptomer help alleviate symptoms of IBS or constipation? ## Hello, Shammi! How are you? No, this medication is actually an antidepressant and, according to the U.S. FDA, its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. So it is not useful in treating IBS, constipation and stomach issues. What has your doctor advised you to take?

Am taking M357 four times/day, have constipatin with some relief should I continue the M357 ## The tablet with the M357 marking is a generic for Vicodin/Lortab, which contains 5mgs of Hydrocodone and 500mgs of Acetaminophen. Since this is a narcotic pain reliever, constipation is an expected side effect and can usually be relieved by taking a fiber supplement. However, this is really a take as needed medication, since it's for pain, not something that you have to take regularly all the time. But as to whether or not you should stop it, that's something that only you and your doctor can decide. Are you new to taking this? In case you don't know much about it, you can learn more Vicodin details here.

taking linzess for 60 days. not working as well as it did in the beginning. can I take a lax. while taking linzess ## You shouldn't do so, unless your doctor approves. Are you making sure to take it on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before ingesting anything else? This medication has been kind of iffy, a lot of people have found that it seems to stop working, after awhile. How long have you been taking it? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, bloating, gas, and diarrhea. ## Does the bloated tummy go back to normal if I stop the linzenss?

I have been taking Bellaphenobarb for a couple of years for IBS constipation. It does not make me drowsy but seems to energize me. Compared to Valium and another one, they just leave me knocked out. ## It makes sense that the Valium would do that, because it is a Benzodiazepine, which is essentially a downer, that is why it can calm people that have anxiety and cause drowsiness, so it's also sometimes used to treat severe insomnia. Is the Phenobarbital still working well for you? ## Yes, so far it is still working. Thanks for your question.

I took norco for a week because I had surgery and I found that I didn't have any bowel movements and then I found that I was constipated so I stopped taking them. The last time I took one was at 8:30 in the morning yesterday 1-10-17 and I drank a bottle of magnesium citrate, a little bit of prune juice, I took stool softeners, and an enema and nothing worked until this morning 1-11-17. I haven't ate because I feel nausea. I have been drinking lots of water and some Gatorade now and all I have been doing is laying in bed because I feel weak and sick. When will I be back to normal? Will I be constipated again? ## I had the same problem. I would drink glasses of prune juice...still no bowel movement. Buy some Flaxseed oil. It is a natural laxative.
