I was prescribed sulfatrim DS for a minor bladder infection. Today is my second day taking it (fourth dose). I am now experiencing weakness, anxiety, minor headache, some itching of the skin, achy muscles and joints, pounding in chest, and just a general sense of illness. I'm wondering if these are severe side effects and if I should go to the ER right away or if it is ok and after I finish the antibiotics tomorrow these symptoms will go away? ## Hello, Emma! How are you feeling? Sorry about the problems that you're experiencing. The itchiness is the red flag here, it could be due to an allergic reaction, which does occur in a fairly large percentage of people that take a sulfa drug. Have you consulted your doctor? You need to do so, as soon as possible. If it is an allergic rea... ...

I was told to take 2 a day for 10 days. But i cant seem to handle taking them. Everytime I take it I throw up. Could it be that it is to strong? If so can i just take half a tablet or one a day instead of two? Wil it be as affective? ## Have you consulted your doctor? You may need to try a different medication. Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic and it can cause nausea, as a side effect, however, if it is that severe, you should consult your doctor about trying a different antibiotic. ...

I am coumadin and have a terrible time with level fluctuations. I bleed very quickly. What is the interaction problem with sulfatrim? I am taking it for a sinus infection. ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, the active ingredients in Bactrim, is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections. When taken with Coumadin, which contains the active ingredient Warfarin, the plasma concentrations of the Coumadin can be increased, meaning that you are absorbing more of the medication than usual and your body isn't processing it out at the normal rate. This can result in increased bleeding dangers. Does your doctor know you are on both of these? ...

elderly mother is taking this drug and is sleeping , almost nonresponsive ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic used to treat different types of infections. taking this med for 15 days. I have celiac disease. The manufacturer is Amneal . I need to know if this is gluten free. I was told it was but I'm still concerned. ## Does the pharmacy know about your allergy? As long as they do, you shouldn't have to worry, because they keep a list of gluten free medications for people with this condition. U.S. law states that they have to. I don't have information on the inactive fillers in the medication from Amneal, however, I do know they produce several gluten free medications. If you are worried, just call the pharmacy to double check. They will be happy to double check for you! Is anyone else familiar with this medication from Amneal? ...

I have 3 tablets left. I think these were prescriped to me for a bladder infection. I have symptons of it again Is this medication for bladder infections ## This is a generic version of the antibiotic Bactrim, which is used to treat various types of infections. However, the problem is that 3 tablets is not enough to finish a full course of treatment and fully eradicate an infection. Trying to use them creates the risk of someone developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. You can learn more Bactrim details here. Thus, if anyone reading this thinks they may have an infection, the best and safest thing to do is to see your doctor, so if they confirm the presence of an infection, you can get a new antibiotic prescription to finish a full course of treatment. My aunt was prescribed this medication and took it for five days until a rash developed in her lower extremities and also developed blisters in her mouth. She went back to consult her doctor of her reaction to the medication. Her doc immediatelly sent her to the hospital. They did a blood test and her plaque count is at 200 when normal is between 2000 and 4000. They said they have to keep her for at least 2 days. I know that internal bleeding is a huge concern. Can u tell me what is going on? I know that one of the rare side effects of this medication is blood disorders. Can you tell me how long this condition will last? How likely is it for her to get back to her strng healthy self? ## Unfortunately, I really have no way to answer those questions. Has her doctor given any prognosis? Ye... ...

Because Cefdinir is also a antibiotc, wii it work just as well as Sulfameth tmp ds tabs. ## It really depends on what type of infection is being treated. Sometimes doctors choose one antibiotic over another, because they know has been proven more effective at treating certain infections. For instance, while it is a broad spectrum antibiotic of the Cephalosporin class, Cefdinir has been proven most effective at treat infections of ear, sinus, throat and skin. Thus, your doctor may not want to prescribe it for a urinary tract infection. The Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, however, has been shown to be very effective at treating urinary tract infections, so when you have one, your doctor may prefer to use it as their first choice. And there are some infections that they are both proven... ...
