Stopping Xarelto With Afib

Started Xarelto a year ago after blood clots after breast cancer surgery. Having surgery again in a week and was taken off xarelto until after surgery. I am now scared to be off this drug. Do I need to be scared of new clots even before surgery? ## Hi there, I've been on Xarelto for three years after having a stroke while in AFIB. Whenever I have a surgery (colonoscopy and total knee replacement) my doctor either puts me on an injectable two days prior or just stop taking it a day before the procedure. By all means speak to your doctor and express your concerns. ## How many days before dental surgery should I stop taking Xarelto 20 mg and how soon should I start again?

I have been on xarelto for 2 & a half years for afib.....was recently taken off of it....I am having flu like symptoms.....headache, achiness & nausea... Could any of this be due to stopping the xarelto? ## Hello, Lynn! How are you? Yes, it's possible. Your body gets used to anything that you ingest regularly for a long period of time, so suddenly stopping something can cause some minor withdrawal effects. As listed by the FDA, you may also experience diarrhea, chills and fever. However, there is a also a chance that you've just caught the flu. How are you feeling, now? How long have you been off of it? ## How long does the nausea last when coming off Xarelto and what other side effects do you get? How long before you start to feel any better?

I have been on 20 mgs of xarelto for newly diagnosed afib once a day for one month. I didn't think about my refill and have run out of my medicine. I've called in for my refill but I won't get it for 2-3 more days. I've seen some things on the internet about stroke and have gotten worried. I use the Veterans Administration hospital for my medical so I can't just call my dr and pick up meds at a regular pharmacy. Should I be okay for a couple of days or should I go to the ER? Any information would be appreciated, thank you. ## Hello, CW! How are you? In such cases, it's always best to give your doctor a call to see what they advise that you do, since there can be risks associated with stopping it abruptly or missing doses. The FDA lists the typical side effects of...

On Xarelto for 6 days (taking for Afib). On 6th day was removing a credit card from my wallet and received a terrible bruise on the end of my middle finger (no pain at all when I removed credit card). I read on internet that there is no antedote for stopping any severe bleeding if you are involved in an accident or require immediate surgery. I read that other blood thinners do have an antedote, but Xarelto does not. Is this true? If so, what can be done (sounds very dangerous to be on this). ## Hello, Carrol! How are you? Yes, that is correct. If you are severely concerned, you should speak to your doctor about taking an alternative medication. The FDA lists the easy bruising as a possible side effect of this medication, along with nausea, dizziness and headache. Is there anything else ...

Have been taking Multaq for six months now . It has not stopped my afib, but has kept it at a rate that I can deal with. My pulse does not get as high as it has in the past, sending me to the hospital .The episodes have not lasted as long as before the Multaq.! I also was taking Xarelto. Did not tolerate Pradaxa. Now after the second time on Zarelto I have again had blood in urine. After stopping the Zarelto , the blood in urine has ceased. ## The Xarelto contains the active ingredient Rivaroxaban, which is an anticoagulant that helps prevent blood clotting, so it does increase the risk of bleeding. Learn more Xarelto details here. So, that's likely why you had blood in your urine. It may just not be the right medication for you, since it could be that it's causing your blood to...
