I was told by my pharmacist today that brand name (Novartis)-ritalin 20 mg tablets sr (sustained-release), have been discontinued. I cannot find anything on the internet to confirm this. He filled one-third of the prescription and said to contact the doctor to decide what to do. He said ritalin capsules, 20 mg la (long-acting) is still available from novartis. I was on Adderall XR 30 mg, 3X/day for a long time until all the generics came out with the ineffective fillers and they became ineffective. My doctor then switched me to Ritalin 20 mg, 3X/day. They did help to perk me up. I'm on a heavy dose of morphine thru an infusion pump for chronic pain for almost 10 years. I called the office to tell them about the side effects I was having: INTENSE sweating, ANGER, mood changes. I was told to reduce the script to 1/2 pill in the am and 1/2 in the pm. This was a little too low so I take 1 tablet in the am and 1/2 in the pm. So far, this seems to be working well and the sweating has decreased almost 98%, anger is gone. After being on every imaginable antidepressant over the past twenty-five years and undergoing ect, I have found that Ritalin has worked the best for me. I have been taking it for about two years now and wonder why I had to suffer for so many years prior. But that is history and I don't dwell on it. Since it is a controlled med., have to go to Dr's next week and get the script and bring it to Rite Aid or Price Chopper Pharmacy(New York State).
