Purbac Dog

My Yorkie is 10 years old (not a small breed) and has a terrible cough, the vet gave a cough mixture but has not done much, could I give her purbac, she has been on purbac before for another illness, and responded fine. She has also been eating well but has lost a bit of weight.

My boxer of 38kg has been given purbac by his vet when he had some epulous (sp) removed. The instructions was 2 twice per day for 10 days but I now realize they have only given me 20 tabs and not 40. Is the dosage correct and they have miscounted the tabs or is the dosage incorrect? 500mg white tabs. Vet closed for holidays. ## The vet prescribed purbac for my dog. My yorkie weighs 1.4 kg. They are not effective against viral infections like the flu in humans or animals. Have you taken your pet to a vet to get checked out yet? I would think they should be able to prescribe something that is more suitable for at least managing any flu-like symptoms. I hope this helps!

A friend of mine has recommended a combination of these two dogs that are sickly. Why the two together, Flagyl is the antibiotic but not sure what the purbac would combined with Flagyl. ## My dog has a cough... Why was purbac and flagyl given for it? It sounds like he wants to vomit when he coughs.

my dog is on Purbac for a skin infection, can i give him Petscam at the same time? ## @Phillip, I haven't come across any medications under the name "Petscam". The name is just so broad that my results are even bringing up pet owners who've previously been scammed. Lol! Would you happen to have the packaging in hand to help determine which ingredients are in Petscam? Also, Purbac (Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim) is a very powerful antibiotic that carries many side effects. So I would also recommend talking to your vet about this before making the final decision on whether or not you should combine it with another medication. My Rottweiler is 4 months ... Can I give him purbac as he needs antibiotics? He has pavro virus. And I don't have financials to take him to vet again... He is very weak, will not eat or drink, vomits and watery stool. So just want to know will it be safe to give him purbac? ## Sorry to hear that your dog is sick :( Unfortunately, if he is sick with a viral infection, Purbac and other antibiotics will not help, as those only treat bacteria and do not kill viruses. Truthfully it would be best to get a proper diagnosis from a veterinarian so that the right treatment may be prescribed. It sounds like dehydration is a concern at this stage if he is not keeping down water and is having diarrhea.

my pupps head is swolin on her head can i give her the medication ## Purbac contains the active ingredient Cotrimoxazole (Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim), which is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. From what I could gather, it can be used for dogs; as some dogs are prescribed it from vets. I don't know however, what the recommended dosage would be for a dog. You may want to call up a vet office to determine what a proper dosage would be based on the size of your dog or what type of dog it is. my dog have urinary infection. urinary smells and is very yellow. urinates a lot more than the water he is consuming. is it okay to give him purbac ## Well, this site is not medical nor veterinary professionals, so we cannot possibly diagnose your dog or suggest a treatment. It does sound like it could be an infection, but not all human medications, including antibiotics, are safe to use in animals. I can only suggest you call your vet to be certain of what it is safe to give him. Have you talked to them, yet?
