My father is in cardiac intensive care following bypass surgery and has been given this drug. I'm trying to find out more information about this drug. thanks, Jenny ## My mother is in ICU as well and she is on a propolol drip. It is used for persons who are intubated and allows for assisted ventilation without a decrease in cardiac output. The downside is that there is an associated drop in blood pressure when the propolol is increased. Generally the drug seems to be used for such anesthctic purposes in ICU when patients need to be calm and passive. How do I take control when Propolol causes irregular heart beat,dizziness,very low diastolic Bp and slow pulse and your MD refuses to take you off the med and you don't want to have a heart attact going off it? ## Hi, Ruth! If the Propranolol is causing you that many problems and your doctor won't help, then I have to say that it's time to get a new doctor. You aren't obligated to keep seeing him anymore than he is obligated to keep seeing you. You are free to leave at any time. You don't even have to tell him ahead of time, you can keep him on the back burner, so you still have this medication for now, while you start looking for another doctor. If you find one, then you can have your records transferred. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was told I had Arryhythmia after a session in my my heart was racing , in fact fiblilateing.. I was prescribed 10 mgs of propolol daily That was about 10 years ago.. It seemed to do the trick until Dec. last year when I went to emergency with slow heartbeat (below 40) The dosage was cut in half(5 mgs) and since then it often goes down to 40 or less, I take my own blood pressure and pulse at home twice daily. When my pulse goes low I feel tired and lethargic. ## Well yes, when your pulse goes that low, you would feel that way, because the blood isn't moving throughout your body as it should, so you're not getting the oxygen you need.
