If I took a 20 mg of prednisone this morning for my bad knee, can I take a 5 mg of oxycodone later in the evening if I can't take the pain? ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? That should be fine, as long as they've both been prescribed by your doctor. I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between the two, but it's always best to double check such information to be sure. However, these medications are often prescribed together. Prednisone is classified by the FDA as a steroid that is used to treat swelling, inflammation, allergic reactions and immune disorders. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, fluid retention, acne and insomnia. Oxycodone is classified as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and ...

Can I take arthrexin n prednisone together?? If yes, what dosages?? And can i be on this intake for long term treatment? ## Shoneez, have you consulted your doctor? Have gout....Doctor wants me to take Colchicine 0.6 mg 2 times a day plus finish out a pack of Prednisone 10 mg with 6 pills left ## Hello, Joanne! How are you? The Prednisone may slightly reduce the efficacy of the Colchicine. But that's the only interaction I've found listed. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Colchicine as possibly including diarrhea, nausea, cramping and abdominal pain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've just been diagnosed with Sciatica and they gave me Prednisone (1 a day for 5 days) and Paragon 500mg (1 by mouth 4 times a day). I'm still in very bad pain. Which one of these medications is better for me? ## Hello, Cathy! How are you doing? Has there been any change? Paragon is the name of a pharmaceutical company, not a medication. Can you please check the label and post back with more details, or possibly the markings on the pills? The FDA classifies Prednisone as a steroid, in cases such as yours, it is usually used to treat inflammation. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, acne, fluid retention, and weight gain.

I have been on 15mg Prednisone now for 10 months and my team of specialists want me to quit cold turkey will this cause issues for me? I tried to reduce down to 13mg a while back but suffered severe back oain and confusion after only reducing by 2mg... ## Lani --- i don't think its a good idea to go off Prednisone cold turkey. Your adrenal system needs to adjust slowly -- reducing by 11/2 to 2 mg a week would be better until your down to 5 mg. Then you might be able to stop cold turkey. ## I actually agree but today they went ahead and did it anyway so I am no longer allowed to have any prednisone. My blood pressure has dropped and I tried to use a zimmer frame to walk with (because I was dizzy and light headed and the lower back pain was horrendous) and that was fine until I sat on...

I have been on 40 milligrams of Prednisone for about 5 weeks now because of autoimmune pancreatitis. In the past weeks I have gained 35 pounds in water retention whatever you wanna call it. I'm so depressed and feel like crap all the time but when I don't take the medicine for about a day I start getting really bad pains in my knees or the back of my leg. The doctor is giving me another prescription to slowly wean 5 milligrams off a week but it doesn't seem to be making anything better. I'm at 25 milligrams now still no difference in the side effects or the appearance and my face. I have always been about a hundred and ten pounds and right now I'm at 147. So the weight gain is very noticeable. If anybody has any advice on quitting this medication in a quick manner or...

I take three 10mg physeptone daily for chronic pain caused by lupus and fibromyalgia. Recently developed a virus which caused painful inflammation when dry coughing and extra pain throughout my body. I also did not realize I had a temp above 38c. My doctor prescribed 25mg prednisone for a week. Just in two days of taking prednisone I haven’t needed to take physeptone (I can’t take morphine based drugs). Prednisone has worked like a miracle in reducing pain. I realise lupus is an autoimmune disease and prednisone an immunosupressant. I’ve always balked against taking steroid based drugs because of the side effects but I can’t believe how well it works. Perhaps I should be taking prednisone as physeptone doesn’t kill the pain totally. ## Ultimately, you can r...

No, Prednisone is the active ingredient, it is a type of steroid that's often used to treat allergic reactions, swelling and immune disorders. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, acne and nervousness. Is there anything else I can help with? ## just an FYI, prednisone can also be used for certain types of anemia. when i was 2 years old, i was hospitalized with coombs positive hemolytic anemia. i was literally bleeding to death. the thing that saved my life was prednisone. this would have been around 1971, and steroids werent really being used for anemia yet. my pediatrician and a specialist ...

I took 40mg of prednisone for 5days without tampering after being on ER due to a feeling of pass out I had. Its been my third month now since stopping I'm still feeling dizzy, shortness of breath, chest pains, sweating at night, fatigued etc. How long will it last. ## Hello, Cat! How are you? Usually, tapering is only required if high doses are taken for over 21 days, even when taken longer, the withdrawal symptoms are only known to last about 3 to 4 weeks, according to the NIH. They are listed by the FDA as possibly including body aches, anxiety, loss of appetite, diarrhea, depression and dizziness. Thus, since it's been a few months, your symptoms may not be due to stopping this medication. Have you consulted your doctor? You may be dealing with some other health issue that re...

I've been taking prednisone for 7 days (5mg tablets 4 times a day) I started with a chest infection, took two lots of antibiotics which helped a little then I was moved onto prednisone (I have asthma and inhalers weren't working), I'm guessing the prednisone is reducing the inflammation? My main question is 3 yrs ago I had a total right hip replacement and have suffered with discomfort ever since can't lay on my right side and it's just as uncomfortable laying on my back, I also had intermittent stabbing pain, since being on prednisone this has 98% gone I'm curious to know why? It has made such a difference to being comfortable not to mention sleeping. ## Hi, I suffer from eczema and the only med that helps is prednisone. I've been taking it every day for ove...

My grandma has been taking prednisone 10mg a day for almost a month. She just all of a sudden stopped taking them because she felt better. Now she's having pain in her leg. Is it from stooping the prednisone ## Hello, Lisa! How is your grandmother doing? If she was taking it for 21 days, or more, there could be some problems caused by stopping it suddenly, rather than tapering it. However, only her doctor can check this out and give you a definitive answer. Typical side effects while taking a steroid, such as this, may include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, acne and fluid retention, as listed by the FDA. Is she on any other medications?

My prescription states: "Take 1 tablet by mouth once daily in the morning as needed." Does this mean that I take it (I have 30 tablets) until the pain/stiffness subsides and then quit? ## Hello, LeTigre! How are you? Yes, that is what that directive would mean. It is sometimes prescribed that way, for instance my mother-in-law takes it in a similar way for her allergies/asthma, after years of dealing with it, she knows that it usually only takes 5 days of taking it to knock her symptoms out. However, if you're unsure, consult your prescriber or pharmacist. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia and acne. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you, Verwon. I anticipated that reply, so it gives ...

I was diagnosed with steroid withdrawal after receiving 3 steroid shots. and given a 12 day taper. When I got down to last pill the pain in my 2 shoulders and hip came racing back. I'm taking 20mg twice a day starting today. . I started with just 20 but about midnight all the pain came back. I'm trying to get into a endocrinologist but it takes time I would like to know how to taper down without all the pain. How long to take 20x2 before I start to taper ## Hello, Marie! How are you? It is normal to have some withdrawal effects when you stop such a medication, even with a taper. As reported by the FDA, it may include rebound pain, insomnia, diarrhea and weight changes. You shouldn't continue taking it for a longer taper, unless your doctor instructs you to do so. What steroi...

Greetings. I am a 67 year old woman destroyed by auto immune disorders that required prednisone that destroyed me further. I had 8 surgeries in 1.5 years which left me very handicapped and I have RA and osteoporosis. Constant pain and limited abilities. Worst of all is pain in my hands, limiting the crafts that would keep me happy. Constant intense pain which I have been on Tramadol for. Now a pain management center has started me on Butrans 5. And I am afraid. Because of my auto immune conditions there’s not a side effect my body doesn’t love to grasp. I never read the inserts that come with a med, because I don’t want to know.
