If med has expired, does that mean it's ineffective? Or stronger? Mine expired 10/09. Thank you. ## Hi Teri, Certain drugs are actually okay to take after expiration, whereas others such as antibiotics can become toxic. Tussionex contains a combination of Chlorpheniramine + Hydrocodone. My personal assumption is that it lost a good percentage of its potency by now, having been over 2 years old. It may still be effective, but not nearly as potent. It's also impossible to give a direct answer to this question, since each medication can effect people differently. We all know that it's better to avoid the expired drugs and stay on the safe side, but unfortunately, the only way to find out is to actually try it. As far as side effects go for this medication, I'd recommend fol...

(Those are the FDA reported side effects.) Is there anything else I can help with?

My wife is suffering from MCD (Minimal Change Disease) and has been prescribed the above drugs by the Nephrologist. However, she has started experiencing acute cramps all over her legs and hands. Please advice or share experience. ## I am not a medical doctor but have some understanding of the diuretic due to use of these on my parents. The cramps are a result of loss of potassium due to use of Lasix type of diuretic, and reduced loss of potassium due to use of Dytor type of diuretic. Normally potassium chloride is recommended to substitute for potassium loss and to take care of the cramps. My advice is to see a good physician and get an opinion on this. Cramps are highly debilitating and painful and hence I am responding to this. My mother who had been on prolonged dytor use had cramps...

I'm wondering if anyone has had the symptoms I have had. I have had this problem for quite a while. In the evening I would get extra nervous and a feeling of fear and sometimes I would get short of breath and my heart would start beating rapidly both tho the point I would pass out and having to be rushed to the hospital. It was like my body was shutting down. Like it thought I was drowning. I have had this happen many times. The other day I ran out of this medicine. The next day I realized I felt better not as tired and could breath much better and that evening I didn't have the strange feeling. I then looked up this med on the web and the only side effects I have is the breathing and tired. The following day I felt like my mind was much clearer and not near the tired feeling. I...

What are the side effects of Potassium Cl? ## My grandmother has been prescribed this medication (Potassium CL) and has discovered them completely whole in her bowel movements, why is this? ## Kimberly, when some medications are time released, the outer shell of the tablet is NOT meant to be digested and is just expelled as waste, however, the medication is still released and used by the body, just as it is supposed to be. Did you have any other questions? ## Mom has always taken K CR and now it is ER. What is the difference. I thought CR meant time release. ## Kimberly, I really doubt that answer. I Also ta...

Can the side effects include stiffness & cramps in both hands? ## Hello, Paul! How are you? That means that they contain 20 milliequivalents per tablet, that's the dosage and the ER denotes them as being time released. The main side effect of this supplement, as listed by the FDA, is stomach pain and nausea, so it's best to take it with food. As to the stiffness and cramping, that is most likely caused by your potassium being low, but you should have it checked out, just in case. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I am taking lots chloride 10meg er cap for potassium but I still get leg and arm cramps. So I stopped taking them for a week no cramps. So what gives.

My Dr told me to start at one teaspoon a night before bed to help with my coughing all though the night with my cold. It has been one hour and I don't feel tired and I'm still coughing. Should I take an other half teaspoon or wait longer? ## Hello, Netta! How are you? No, you shouldn't raise your dosage, unless your doctor instructs you to do so. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic cough suppressant, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. If you aren't opiate tolerant, it can be very risky to try to adjust the dosage on your own. Is there anything else I can help with?
