Can phenylephrine show a false positive for phentermine? ## I just got bacl from my p.o. And I put clean urine in a nasal spray bottle because I thought it would be easy to get away with... Well I ended up failing for suboxone so I don't recommend anyone doing that. Just a warning... ## I took Sudafed PE the day before I had my monthly drug test and it didn't show up as a false positive for anything. They do say that the phenylephrine may cause a false positive for methamphetamine but it didn't on me. I asked the nurse about this when I went in and she told me if you buy the Sudafed that's behind the counter that you have to sign for that. It will show up as methamphetamine because it's what people use to make methamphetamine. Hope that helps you out.

When I told him I had not he kept asking me "did I borrow any medicine from anyone" instead of trying to help me find the real problem that may have caused this error. I had taken over the counter Allergy Capsules Diphenhydramine HIC* Antihistamine, Multi-Symptom Allergy Relief *Acetaminophen* Phenylephrine HIC* Chlorpheniramine maleate, BC Arthritis, Tylenol Cold Multi-Sympton Severe, Benadryl*Diphenhydramine, and RX meds Losartan, Hydrocodine-APAP Lortab, Prilosec, Zocor, Fluoxetine, and Mirapex The so called doctor I spoke with on the phone was so rude and just kept trying to get me to say I had taken a "borrowed" medicine....never !...

I was told by my Dr. to take Claritin D (pseudoephedrine) and I already had been taking a nasal spray containing phenylephrine. I tested positive in a saliva test for ephedrine and methamphetamine. I have never taken methamphetamine in my life. Can these two compounds cause a false positive for methamphetamine? ## Ephedrine and pseudoephedrine (I'll use "ephedrine" to mean both from this point forward) can, and often do, show up as methamphetamine on a drug screen. The two compounds have nearly identical molecular structure, the only difference being a single oxygen molecule more (ephedrine) or less (methamphetamine). The above notwithstanding, a drug screen can still differentiate the two but it takes a a certain kind of test called GC/MS (gas chromatography/mass spectromet...
