Ornidazole topical application

My wife was suffering from gum problems. Dr gave her Metrogyl gel to apply to her gums. Now Metrogyl contains Ornidazole. After application for a day she complained of stomach pain. Can application of Ornidazole inside the mouth cause stomach pains? ## Metrogyl actually contains the active ingredient Metronidazole, it's similar to, but not the same as Ornidazole. And yes, it could cause stomach pain and nausea, because even applied topically to her gums, she is still going to swallow a slight amount of it. Has she consulted her dentist?
